charged for damage not causedPros: No line when picking up the vehicle, and staff at the desk were efficient.Cons: The day after I parked the car in the garage and returned it after hours in exactly the same condition that I'd found it, I received an email ordering me to fill out an accident report for a 5cm long scratch on the rear bumper...that wasn't there during my rental. In the photos that they sent the "damage" couldn't even be seen on the overall shot of the back of the car, so I'm not convinced that everything matched up here. To give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe someone backed into the car in the tiny clearance of the garage, who knows. My insurance covers damage, but no one wants the hassle of filing a claim while on vacation, and this one in particular seems petty and opportunistic. I wouldn't recommend renting here.

Returning the car was very confusingPros: The car. Very comfortable, fun to drive, great featuresCons: Returning the car after hours was very confusing. We didn't have a code for the garage and had to wait until someone else came along with the code. Also the self serve kiosk was behind a gate so we couldn't access it. The after hours phone number was no help either.

Choosing car by location on Kayak's map didn't worPros: The car rental itself was great!Cons: I showed up to the location I chose from the map (Gothenburg central station) however somehow my reservation had been made for the airport, which I didn't check at the time. So I had to get a taxi to the airport at 11pm and called the hertz employee to stay past her hours.
If you want the unrestricted freedom of travelling wherever the road takes you plus the unlimited convenience of setting your own travel schedule in personalised comfort, then car hire in Gothenburg is incomparable. The city of Gothenburg may be your primary destination, but adventures further afield await you on roadtrips to major cities such as Oslo (181 miles north via E6) or to the Swedish capital Stockholm (292 miles north-east via E4).
Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport (GOT) is about a 13-mile drive from the city centre, making it a choice location for picking up a hire car in Gothenburg after your flight arrives. Sweden’s second-largest metropolis is an important maritime, trade and banking hub, so rush hour traffic in the morning and evening will be significant in certain sectors. It also boasts a large student population, ensuring a significant amount of foot and cycle activity in addition to vehicular traffic throughout the year. The influx of major tourist numbers during the months of June–September will further complicate traffic patterns as well.
Morning rush hours from 07:00–09:00 and evening rush hours from 18:00–20:30 will create congestion along sections of Gothenburg’s three major roadways, the E6, E20 and E45, which move traffic inbound and outbound. Expect major delays at the four interchanges east (E6) and west (E45) of the River Gota, as well as through the two tunnels (Tinstadtunneln and Marieholmstunneln) passing under it during these periods. Another area of concern is the huge E45 loop near the Walckesbron Bridge.
