Because of the narrow roads in the city, if you don't plan on driving around to other cities or tourist attractions off the beaten path, consider a hire car in Famagusta that's smaller and more compact. It's easier to navigate these on smaller roads. If you're going on road trips and visiting tourist attractions, a 4x4 is a popular choice with many visitors who choose car hire in Famagusta. If you're travelling with a large family, consider hiring two cars rather than hiring a large van.

The speed limits in the city are international speed limits and tend to be the same across the country. When you're inside the city walls or in other built-up areas, stick to 35 mph (56 km/h) or below. When you're out on suburban roads outside of the built-up areas, the limit is usually 50 mph (80 km/h), while the highways and major motorways typically carry a limit of 65 mph (104 km/h). Bear in mind that these speed limits can often change quickly so keep a lookout for signs to make sure. You may also find different speed limits closer to schools or other places where children frequent.

Parking in the city, like in the rest of Cyprus, has always been a contentious thing. There doesn't seem to be any paid parking around unless you're in a car park. In the Old Town, it'll mostly be on-street parking and no meters governing your stay. Most locals will park anywhere they can, close to the place they're going to, even on yellow lines. If you find a council car park, you'll be charged a standard rate for the time you're there. Consider finding a hotel with free parking to avoid leaving your car on the street overnight.
