Pros: Staff were EXCEPTIONAL - extremely helpful, gave us all kinds of useful information, really great attitudes and I got lost in trying to find the drop off and was going to miss my flight so one of the staff gave me a ride to the terminal and I was able to catch my flight. I couldn't be more grateful!Cons: GPS does not pick up car rental village... have BIG SIGN out on the roadway showing car rental return like they do in the USA it's so easy here. The GPS took me to an Uber waiting parking area and not one of the signs on the roundabout said CAR RENTAL VILLAGE.
Great bargainPros: I picked up my car an hour late with no problems after my flight was delayed! The service was friendly & i was in my rental in about 20min. Great service! I had a Volkswagen Polo, duh a great car with great gas milage around town & long distances. I would recommend Budget!Cons: N/A

Cons: Rental return poorly signposted. Had to wait too long for a shuttle back to airport.
Pros: Reservation price was different to the actual price at pick up. Original price per the booking should have been honored.
7.6 Good1 Jan 2019
Cons: Difficult to find drop off locations for rental cars- not sign posted well (for all rental returns not just Enterprise). Lobby of waiting area was clean but the seats are in really poor condition. Again a communal area not just for Enterprise customers.

Very GoodPros: Although there was a slight mix up about the pick up location for the car. The manager was able to get me the car at anothe location and they transported me for free to this location to pick up the car. The car itself was a fairly new car and I did not have any problems whatsoever driving the car. I will use this rental service again.Cons: Nothing

Not class reservedCons: They didn’t have any mid-size suvs—the class we had reserved. Tried to rent us large 10 passenger van instead, which was unacceptable. Eventually manager became involved and we settled on Ford Galaxy which they told us was our only other option without paying much more.

Just okayPros: Car rental facility, once you find it, is pretty close to the terminals, with rapid bus service.Cons: Dropoff procedure at Manchester Airport was slow (10 minutes to get car checked in, due to understaffing) and not terribly friendly.

Cons: I’m from the US and when the car was returned 30 min late because I was lost, I was charged another day’s rental. Plus, the insurance rates are too high! I will not rent from Hertz again!

Why is car rental at British airports so awful?Pros: Car was fine, but lacked any frills.Cons: Heathrow and Manchester seem designed to give the worst possible first impression of the country, and the car rental facilities are the worst of the worst. Have the designers never traveled to a half-decent airport in the US, Asia or Europe? Poor signage (also at Gatwick); lousy shuttles; complacent service by people who clearly don't care. This trip was capped by a ridiculous charge for an invisible "dent". The car rental has a veneer of efficiency (e.g. Electronic check-in), but this was a poor and sloppy experience through-and-through.

Don't trust KayakPros: NothingCons: Hertz refused to release the car at the price quoted by Kayak. Even though I had pre-paid the insurance. I hired a car from Avis at a lot less. Also it seems I am unable to reclaim the pre-paid insurance. Rubbish company.

Quick & EasyPros: Attendant came right over. Great attitude considering it was before 7 am on a Saturday. No hassles on the turn in checklist. Asked which airline I was flying - told me the terminal - and which shuttle bus to board. That's service !
Lack of transparencyCons: I was extremely frustrated to find I *had* to purchase additional theft insurance, even though I have full coverage through my credit card. This added significantly to the daily cost of the rental in ways I had not planned on. It would be one thing if this had been communicated transparently at the point of booking, but to find this out at the point of pick up was extremely frustrating. I will be more discerning in future, and will not be choosing Europcar.

After long wait at counter, company would not honor arranged priceCons: Company required purchase of insurance which would more than double rental price. Declined to rent and rented instead from National at adjacent counter with no problems and lower price. Will not rent from Europcar again. Was fortunate to find and available car, in same class, at a good price during holiday week..

I rent a lot for business and family trips and expect to immediatly get a final bill for the rental on return -- very unsatisfactory. Will I get a surprise? I don't know?

Pros: Staff was friendly as they charged me double the agreed-upon price.Cons: Payment due at pickup doubled from what I agreed upon when I hired the car via Kayak. I didn't have time to argue the charges because I was on vacation and had time-sensitive plans. This company seems to prey on foreigners in this type of situation. Advertise a low price, double it upon arrival.

Pros: It’s relatively cheap if you take extra care they don’t squeez in extra optional insurance charges.Cons: They tried for almost 2 hrs to sell us damage waiver which we already had. They were claiming ours would not work because liability and damage should be bundled!! Finally we got them to agree to unbundle the two via American Express representative in the phone from US!!!! We end up saving $50 but it drove us crazy with a 2-yr old with us that my wife had to entertain after an 11-hr flight!

Ripped off,Pros: The car itself was decent, full size + luxury as described (although Volvo not Mercedes). No sign of any Mercs on the lot either, so not sure if they actually have any.Cons: The worst service EVER upon pick up from Easirent. No routine shuttle bus from airport, apparently you have to phone for a pick up but no contact number was given. Jumped in a cab to rental center but it has moved & Kayak has incorrect address. Eventually arranged pick up, took 1 hr 30 mins for the shuttle bus to arrive after I managed to speak to them + everyone was totally unapologetic and basically complaining about how hard they were working. There were 2 customers ahead of me in the queue when I finally arrived at rental center but it took an hour to process them + me. The woman in front of me was in tears because of the standard "you need to take our premium insurance" line which left her an additional $600 out of pocket. Of course, I got gouged as well an additional $100... "we cannot let you take this car without additional insurance, you're not legal on the road without it" despite the fact my US credit card covers this and I don't have a problem elsewhere. Companies like this should NOT be in business, and thankfully the service is so bad that they won't be for long, there is no way they can survive when they are so appallingly bad.

Even details of how to get back to airport was vague end result lots of walk g both ways!
Although Manchester offers a fairly good public transportation system, you can avoid the crowds by renting a car. It is the most comfortable way to go around the city, particularly in the winter months when it is often raining there. Hop in the car for a scenic drive along Oxford Road with its many museums and theaters, or to head to neighboring Liverpool, which is only one hour away. Make the most of your hire car by exploring the countryside of Northern England, with the unmissable Lake District being just an hour and a half ride from Manchester.
The big car hire agencies can be found at Manchester International Airport (MAN), which is located 8.6 miles from the city. Most of the car hire counters are set in the Car Rental Village, which can be accessed by the free shuttle buses departing from all terminals every 10 minutes or so. Tourists will only need their domestic driver's license to rent a vehicle in the UK.
When driving in the United Kingdom, remember that traffic stays on the left side of the road. As with any big city, roads can get a bit congested in the city center, so you may want to avoid the stress of driving in that area by leaving the car at your hotel or in one of the many parking lots before heading there. Because of the constant rainy weather, make sure you take extra precautions when driving in the city.
Although traffic isn't horrible in Manchester, make sure you avoid the typical rush hours so you don't add extra time to your travels. Morning rush hour is usually between 7 and 9:30 a.m., while evening rush hour normally between 4 and 6:30 p.m. Visiting Manchester in the summer months (between June and August) will contribute to a smoother driving experience because of the nicer weather.
