Brazil flight and hotel price analysis unveiled by KAYAK.co.uk

  • Flight costs from the UK increase by up to 28 per cent, whilst Brazilian domestic flight prices almost double
  • UK sees the biggest year on year flight fare increase, compared to other European country tournament favourites
  • Hotel prices surge by up to 29 per cent during the World Cup

London, 26th November, 2013 – British football fans hoping to score cheap flights to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup are today advised by travel comparison website, KAYAK.co.uk, to not hold out for reduced fares. An in-depth price analysis of flights has unveiled that costs are going to rise swiftly as June 2014 approaches.

The analysis also scuppers any plans of travelling to an alternative Brazilian airport and then taking a domestic flight in the hope of beating price increases. This option has been revealed as the most affected in terms of price hikes, with internal flight costs rising by 49 per cent to Rio de Janeiro and 44 per cent to Sao Paulo1.

For the price analysis, KAYAK.co.uk examined thousands of flight searches to Brazil between October 2012 and November 2013, to obtain a thorough overview of flight price fluctuation and the impact of the World Cup. The results confirm that flight costs will increase an average of 28 per cent from the UK to Rio de Janeiro and 26 per cent to Sao Paulo2 during the competition.

The examination also unveils that flights from the UK to Brazil see year on year price increases of 29 per cent to Rio de Janeiro and a 13 per cent to Sao Paulo. This is much higher than the year on year fare surges seen across other European tournament favourites; Germany, France, Spain and Italy3.

Annie Wilson, Managing Director of KAYAK UK, commented: “The data shows that fares are unlikely to fall as we approach the World Cup, so fans wanting to see the action live should book now, rather than waiting in the hope of catching a cheaper deal nearer the time.”

Hotel rates on the up

In addition to air fares, KAYAK.co.uk also examined hotel price trends during the World Cup, finding that an overnight stay increases by an average of 13 per cent in Rio de Janeiro and 29 per cent in Sao Paulo during the event4.

“Accommodation is generally quite expensive in Brazil throughout the year, so it’s no surprise that hotels are taking full advantage of the tourism generated by the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo by raising their prices.” concluded Annie Wilson.
