The turreted Schattenburg castle looks down from its hill over red rooftops and arcaded lanes, old town gates and towers still mark the streets, and a lively summer wine festival fills the squares. Mountain trails and ski areas rise on every side, and river walks along the Ill and a hilltop loop round the castle round out an easy day.
