Overview

In the centre of Braunschweig, the Best Western Plus Hotel Stadtpalais, Braunschweig, Germany, is a family-run city hotel with marble bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi and individually controlled air conditioning, a short walk from the main sights, with the pedestrian shopping street right opposite. The castle square, the town hall and the half-timbered Magni quarter sit close by, with the shopping streets right across the road. A big events hall is a short stroll away. Braunschweig, the old Brunswick, was the seat of Henry the Lion, a powerful medieval duke who made it a centre of trade. His bronze lion still guards the castle square before the castle and cathedral, the timber-framed houses of the Magni quarter recall the old merchant city, and lively squares and a green ring of parks fill the centre. To the south the wooded Harz mountains rise within an easy drive, with the old towns of Wolfenbüttel and Goslar close by.
