BOOKED THROUGH KAYAK AND WANTED TO ADJUST THE BOOKING TO DROP THE CAR OFF 4 DAYS EARLY. CALLED KAYAK, WHO SAID I HAD TO CALL PRICELINE, WHO SAID I HAD TO CALL HERTZ, WHO WHEN I CALLED THEM SAID I HAD TO WAIT TO ASK AT THE COUNTER WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR. OTHERWISE, I WOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY APPROX'LY 178 EUROS MORE! TO RETURN THE CAR 4 DAYS EARLY. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR, HERTZ WOULD NOT REDUCE THE PRICE BECAUSE I HAD BOOKED WITH KAYAK. THEY SAID IF I HAD BOOKED THROUGH THEM, THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO REDUCE THE PRICE. THEN, AFTER ALL OF THAT, WHEN I DROPPED OFF THE CAR 4 DAYS EARLY, I RECEIVED A REDUCED PRICE AFTERALL. QUITE A HASSLE TO MAKE A MINOR ADJUSTMENT TO THE DURATION OF THE CONTRACT...

Inexpensive optionExtremely slow for pickup. Waited in line a good hour. Totally inefficient operation.

reservation refused !reservation was refused due to presentation of a credit card with indication "debit" ! so frustrating not to get this kind of information before. seems to be a rule only applicable in italy, i already rent cars in france zith same card and never had problems.
AverageWe got a nice car which was one size larger than the one we had booked.Pickup was extremely slow. Also, even though we had pre-payed everything they still managed to find some extra fee which was deducted from my deposit.
Some Bergamo car providers already include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection Waiver into the hire price but not all of them. We recommend always be aware of your coverage when hiring a car in Bergamo.
Keep in mind that car rental insurances often have a deductible clause, which is the amount you’ll have to pay if something happens during the time of your rental. If you want to avoid unwanted surprises, you should consider adding a no-deductible option to your Bergamo car rental.
Nestled in the north of Italy, Bergamo is a scenic city which not only enthralls travelers with its old town and Italian vibe, but also serves as a great starting point to explore much more beyond the city limits. Enjoy the benefits of the freedom that comes with a hire car, by exploring not only the city itself, but also the breathtaking Italian landscape. Milan is also only a 1-hour drive from the city, if you are interested in a day trip into this fashionable city.
Orio al Serio International Airport is only about 4 miles from Bergamo and, when renting a car directly from the airport grounds, travelers can be in the city in less than 15 minutes. There are various renowned agencies located onsite, such as Avis, Budget, and Hertz. Simply follow the signs from the terminal to their respective counters upon arrival.
As Bergamo is a quaint city with a grid-like street system, navigating through it is generally a pleasant experience. However, as Bergamo is an old Italian city, the streets can be very narrow and often one-way only. Navigate through the narrow lanes cautiously and slowly and you should face no problems.
The main rush hour in and around Bergamo is in the mornings between 8 and 9:30 am. Especially the south, which has freeways connecting to Milan, can be congested during peak times and should be avoided if possible. Also bear in mind that the very center of Bergamo is a ZTL (zona traffico limitato), which means that access is allowed during certain times of the day, or only for locals. Check with your car agency or hotel where you are permitted to drive to avoid getting fined.

Italian cities are perfect for smaller, compact cars like a Fiat 500, which is also a beloved car of many Italians and is seen pretty often. The perks of a smaller car are that drivers can squeeze through the narrow lanes and find suitable parking spots more easily. Additionally, a smaller car will consume less gas, which is pretty expensive in Italy.
Speed limits are always indicated on posted signs on the right-hand side, but general regulations permit 50 km/h (31 mph) within city limits, but only 30 km/h (18 mph) in some zones like around schools or close to the center. On rural country roads, 90 km/h (56 mph) is allowed, but road conditions can be poor in some regions, so adjust your speed if necessary. On freeways (called “autostrada” in Italy), 130 km/h (80 mph) is the maximum speed limit.
There are free on-street parking opportunities in Bergamo as well as parking lots where vehicles can also be left for a longer period of time. The Via Camozzi or Piazza Libertà, for instance, have parking lots nearby which offer plenty of space and which have an approximate daily maximum fee between €15 and €20 ($17-22).
