When you hire a car in Szczecin, you will realise that the city is relatively old, so it has narrow streets. Combine this with lots of locals and tourists walking around and you are best off getting a compact car for your trip. However, if you’re taking your car to the countryside or to an area known for its steep hills like Bukowa Forest Landscape Park, you might want something that is more robust. For instance, an SUV offers good handling on winding roads and a better grip for steep terrain.

You must stick to the speed limits when driving throughout Poland; otherwise, you risk an accident or a fine from local authorities. When you’re in Szczecin or other urban areas, the maximum speed is 50 km/h, and on rural roads that are not motorways, the top limit is 90 km/h. There are two limits on motorways, which range between 120 km/h and 140 km/h. Make sure that you’re aware of what speed is allowed by observing road signs. Whilst there are no fixed speed cameras in Poland, there are mobile ones, so be careful with your speed.
