Fagrabrekka Guesthouse - Hella - Bedroom

9.8 Excellent (220 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at this cabin in Hella, you'll be 10.9 mi (17.5 km) from Lava Centre and 25.9 mi (41.6 km) from Seljalandsfoss. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The guesthouse is in a lovely quiet location with great views over open countryside and with 2 volcanos visible. The accomodation is well spaced and each room has a large l-shaped deck with outside furniture. The room was spacious, well designed, clean and cosy. Breakfast in the main building had lots of delicious homemade components and the coffee was excellent.
Cons: The only minor thing was the lack of a small inside dining table and chairs for those who may self cater. The sofa was however a good addition and this left less room for a dining table.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property was very well maintained and close to a lot of activities. We would definitely consider staying there again when coming back to Iceland. The breakfast was really good, it couldn’t have been more perfect!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The owner is lovely
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly owner. Loved the seclusion. Excellent breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room is modern, simple nordic design, with a great view and a beautiful porch. The beds are so comfortable and the toiletries really nice quality! The host was extremely friendly and helpful!! Breakfast was really good. We loved the crunchy peanut butter and the coffee!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved everything, especially the products in bathroom.
Cons: To provide body lotion would have been amazing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was the best of our two weeks visit to Island. A warm and beautiful cabin overlooking a green meadow with a small river just in front of our balcony made it all perfect. To describe the unit as clean would be an understatement. Breakfast was very good and the lady who’s name can’t be pronounced by non Islanders is so nice and welcoming. Thank you so much!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The cabins are very confortable and have a great view on a small river below. They are modern and 4 of them are separated by about 20m between each of them. The guesthouse is located about 1 km south of route 1 at the end of a gravel road. Driving instructions were received by email prior to our arrival. The host is very friendly and welcoming without being intrusive. The breakfast was excellent with homemade breads and cake with local products. Diner will be available at the next town, about 10min drive. A very nice place to spend a night during our tour of Southern Iceland. Will definitely recommend the place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our stay was truly magical ! Amazing location, fantastic view, tasty breakfast and very welcoming staff. Definitely would like to come back.
Cons: Nothing! It was perfect!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There is so much to love about this guesthouse: The host is very warm, welcoming and informative about the region and the country. The individual cottages are spacious, perfectly clean and very comfortable with a great deal of privacy. The views from the cottages, on a clear day, are stunning and one could spend hours soaking it in from the private terrace. If that weren't enough, the home baked breads and cake every morning are reason enough to make sure Fagrabrekka is on your accommodation checklist when visiting southern Iceland!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Landscape and breakfast
Cons: Nothing

Pros: That was my first experience staying in hostel and it really exceeded my expectations. Everything was just perfect! There are enough shower and toilet rooms, clean rooms, nice kitchen, parking is just in front of building. You can feel like at home there. I'll recommend it for sure and will certainly stay there during my next journey to Island. Thank You!

7.5 Good
Pros: Kitchen and bedroom nice and clean.
Cons: Difficult to have hot water for shower.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was very clean it smelled well You could walk in without shoes very original wide and impolute The kitchen had all facilities and its very nice The beds wide with lantern and compartments case
Cons: They could improve facilitating towels and installing usb connection
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Clean, good sized rooms. A lot of bathrooms and shower rooms, never had to wait in line to use any of them. Kitchen in the middle of the building, plenty of room, and with lots of pots and pans and cups etc. Friendly host. Bonus with the stop by the road where all the montains and cliffs that could be seen from that spot, where named. Good value for your money.
Cons: Thin walls, we could easily hear people snoring next door, and we felt extremly sorry for everybody because our kids woke up before 7 am and propably woke people up with just talking in our room. It's a 15-20 mins drive from road 1, just so you know. (didn't mind it ourselves, but just letting people know)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very warm rooms and nice bedding even towels
Cons: N/a
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Helpful staff. Good and big kitchen and public space. Many toilets.
Cons: The shower temperature can not be adjusted (only 38C), and you need to push a button to get the water, which stops automatically and too soon. First three push won't get you hot water. I got a cold after showering, and it was the worst bath I got in the whole trip.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent option if staying in the area. Comfortable and super clean. I was able to do the laundry on site courtesy of very friendly and nice hosts. Kids loved the playground, hopscotch and trampoline as well as a cute dog who was hanging around. Loved the different colored restrooms.
River Hotel - Hella - Building
3
9.3 Excellent (523 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Hella, River Hotel is on a river, within a 15-minute drive of Hella Golf Course and Lava Centre. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location was amazing, just near a river with the Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull volcanoes visible at distance. There was a hot tube and sauna available too, which we enjoyed. The staff was super nice. i would definitely return (for more days) the next time to do hiking around.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff were great and the location is just beautiful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is easy to find, close to the small town of Hella and right on the river (which is apparently popular for salmon fishing). There is a nice common area, a lounge/bar, outside seating facing the river, 24 hour availability of coffee, tea, cookies, fruit in the breakfast room. Rooms are regular size hotel rooms but has a modern, large bathroom and comfortable beds. Breakfast was good, buffet style so not ordered fresh but a decent variety.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Awesome location by the river. Very relaxing. Staff very nice. Good rooms.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Amazing breakfast with views to the river
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location along the river. Staff that really seemed to care about the guests’ experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent view, very peaceful, nice people!
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Truly beautiful location by a river. Nice beds and very friendly personnel. Good breakfast.
Cons: Nothing to complain.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: This was a fabulous hotel alongside a river known for salmon fishing in season. The atmosphere was so tranquil. Upon check-in, the friendly receptionist gave us a brief tour of the hotel and its amenities (outdoor hot tub; large, cozy communal room; complimentary coffee, tea and biscuit station; shaded patio seating overlooking the river). It was very clean, with high ceilings and little touches like candles that lined the hallways in the evenings. Breakfast was a very nice spread of typical Icelandic hotel fare in a beautiful dining room with windows that overlooked the river.
Cons: The bathroom amenities consisted of a foaming soap pump in the shower. It would have been nice to at least have some shower gel and shampoo. The rooms were clean but sparse on decorations.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely wonderful hotel, amazing location, great staff, very nice and delicious restaurant and wonderful views. A jewel !
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We love the place but our cabin had some dead bugs/insects. Bathroom smelled weird too.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We were in one of the suites facing the river. It was very spacious and clean and allowed our family of four to spread out a bit. Once you arrive (long gravel road to get there and about 15 mins. drive from town) we loved the peace and quiet of the location. Wonderful breakfast buffet with both hot and cold items. You are about 1hr 20mins from Vik so the location worked well for us to spend the night in the quiet and then drive to Vik and hit the sites along the route back to the hotel.
Cons: Just be aware that the stairs to the loft are very steep. We did not eat dinner there as they only offered a 2 or 3 course meal; more than we wanted in the evenings. The bathroom is clean but tiny.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The setting is beautiful, our cabin was great and the staff are lovely!!
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Cons: Wish there was a frig in cottage but lovely quiet spot. Very nice staff
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place! Hidden gem that surpassed out expectations!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming. My family and I stayed in 6 different hotels over the course of our vacation in Iceland. This was the best reception we received, with an impressive breakfast, great dinner, and the best Happy Marriage cake we had anywhere! One of the owners gave great advice for sight seeing the golden circle on the way to our next stop and even told us about the tomato farm, where we had a great lunch!
Cons: We loved it.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable, cozy cottage with views of the river and mountains. New amenities, friendly staff. Yummy meals at the restaurant.
7.5 Good

Pros: Wonderful
Cons: Mood
8.0 Excellent
Pros: All was as I expected, wonderful, quite and comfortable. Staff also welcoming and the restaurant the best.
Cons: The hot tube didn't work and this is part of the attractions of the Hotel, then the price automatically is not equivalent to what they offer.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Pretty much everything
Cons: Could not control heat...too hot in room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff, food and drinks. Hotel is beautiful and our suite (we stayed in the South African suite) was lovely. Would stay again!

Pros: He help d make my wife’s 50t birthday spectacular. Thank you Frederick and your amazing team!

Pros: Staff was incredibly friendly, professional and helpful. The rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. The food was absolutely exceptional. Wonderful visit.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The food is absolutely scrumptious! Loved the atmosphere and energy from the staff
6.8 Good
Cons: For a one night stay you pay way too much for something that doesn’t match neither the stars nor the price. The reception staff was courteous and professional, but dinner went wrong with a very long waiting for our orders and little consideration from the waiters. Therefore, my guests overall experience was of a lower three stars hotel. Definitively not a four star.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hot tubs and the scenery
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This Hotel is by far the best Hotel that I have ever stayed at, I was there at the beginning of July doing a Girls Trip with my Cousin and our two little Daughters. The Hotel and the Staff are so kid friendly, they gave our daughters so much attention and care, so much so that we all became friends with them ! A big Hello to Lukas who makes the best Hella Cocktails in Town, we will be back for some more of them ! A big Hello to Mike, Ewa and Ramzan, my Daughter misses you all so much already ! The Owner is always there every day and every night to make sure all of the Guests are happy and very pleasant to talk to as well and he too was great with our Daughters. The Room is beautiful, immaculately clean and comfortable with views of the River, a Private Terrace and right near the Hot Tub. The food at the Hotel Rangá Restaurant is delicious, anything and everything that we had for Breakfast and Dinner was always perfect, the Lamb dishes and Fish dishes are out of this World, my Hat goes off to the Chef ! I am definitely coming back in December to see the Northern Lights with my Family, it was an amazing experience and I cannot wait to return back ! Thank you again to all of you at the Hotel Ranga that made our stay in your Beautiful Country so wonderful !
Cons: Not applicable.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic hotel, lovely hot tubs, amazing food (if a little expensive).. top notch breakfast. Thoroughly recommend staying if you can.

5.5 Okay
Pros: Everything except the rude staff members.
Cons: Rude staff. Arrived 8pm after 3 hours driving in thick snow, asked if we could order any food and told it was not possible to order that evening and we could pay for breakfast instead. Yet the two staff members working that evening were eating pizza and lasagne, watching their laptop at a table with a large sign saying “staff table only”. Asked if I could use the kitchen to heat something up we had with us from our last stay at a farm and was told “no”. Odd behaviour from the staff. Asked if they knew of a town with a restaurant or anything and was told “yes, 10 miles to Hella”. Okay I said , ‘what is the name of the restaurant?’ ... “don’t know” said the staff member. I asked what time the restaurant shut and was also told “don’t know”. Shortly afterwards got a bit more information from the second staff member who told me “potentially the restaurant shuts at 10pm”. The staff member also gave me the name of another town which was further but maybe had more restaurants. Odd policy of having to take your shoes off the minute we stepped foot in the lobby, this instruction was even before a hello or welcome was offered. Was offered a pair of old slippers but instead chose to walk around bare foot. It was very cold and would have definitely liked the option to keep my shoes on whilst walking through the lobby. Asked about horse riding and was simply told , “don’t know , go up to the stables in the morning”. I have travelled the world and never left a bad review but feel compelled given how rude the staff were. It was like the two staff members running the place were trying to avoid expending any work or effort of cleaning or cooking and were simply sat around themselves enjoying the facilities, i.e, eating pizza and watching movies. Avoid this place unless the two staff members leave. Met two other travellers later in Iceland who had the exact same experience and opinion. Awful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This house is amazing. Cosy, animals around, with big windows. Strongly recomended.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean room with nice view, really nice and helpful receptionist. We appreciated the coffee maker in the shared kitchen.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great stay! Nice rooms, friendly staff! Natural hot tub was available! Would love to come again!
Cons: Not too much to complain about! E.g. some glasses in the room would be nice. As we wondered before arriving: Self-use kitchen only available in the cottages.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very clean room. Comfortable bed. Beautiful dining room and scenery on a snowy morning.
Cons: Way off the beaten path after driving from Black Sand Beach at pitch dark and snowy condition.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice cottages, very clean and silent surrounding. Directly next to a stable for horseback riding. Wonderful nature around. Nice and helpful owners and staff.
Cons: Kitchen equipment could be a little more extensive, location is not very close to a town, next "real town" is Selfoss approx. 20-25 minutes drive
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Would be nice to have staff in the after hours
6.8 Good
Pros: The breakfast was good.
Cons: Troubles with internet connection.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The cottage was immaculate and simply gorgeous. The views were stunning, whether it was of the landscape and the beautiful Iceland skies or the horses in the pastures. Check in went off flawlessly, and the gentleman that took care of me was super friendly, kind, and helpful.
Cons: When we were trying to leave, there was a rope tied off across the exit path that we couldn't drive past. Apparently, the stable folks were waiting to do something with the horses. I got out and asked the girl there how long there would be and if there was another way out. She was very snippy with me and told me we'd "just have to wait." We drove up to consult with the fantastic gentleman at the guesthouse, and he came down to the area to assist us only to find out this super rude girl had allowed other guests to pass without issue.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very cosy cottage and delicious breakfast
Cons: The jacuzzi is far from the cottages

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel was a real positive surprise. From outside it doesn't promise too much, but the inside is very different. The hotel part where the rooms are located is separated from the restaurant, and it looks brand new. The rooms are big, the interior is modern, the bathroom is perfect. Everything is totally clean. The breakfast is very good despite it is a small hotel.

Pros: dinner was great (both food and service). We enjoyed the hot tub and sauna after dinner.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very nice clean accommodation. We stayed here so we could hike at Skogar Falls, which worked out great! Ate dinner here which was very nice. Didn’t use their hot tubs because they didn’t seem very warm 38c, but their set up was very nice, semi private.
4.5 Okay
Pros: Nothing comes to mind. Very average.
Cons: Again, no major flaws but it simply isn’t a 4* hotel. Rooms are very basic, the ‘spa’ consists of two hot tubs and two (very small) saunas that will get occupied immediately.

Cons: The room was very basic for the price.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Accommodating staff at Bistro.
Cons: Very small room, very spare amenities. The stairs outside the upstairs breakfast room were incredibly slick in the rain and need some traction strips. This was our most expensive overnight stay, and the least satisfactory.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Close to supermarket. Cooking environment is great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Convenient location and very accommodating, with a much appreciated early checkin.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice modern room with a private sink. Our room as well as kitchen were very clean and they have every kitchen appliances you need to cook. There is enough space in dining room and it is nicely decorated. Supermarket and gas stations are nearby which made our trip easy.
Cons: Check-in was a little difficult since I did not notice the code they sent via an email but it worked out at the end. However, they should have at least one personnel to help out even in the evening . One important negative point is that they do not have any hairdryers which means I could not wash my hair since I have long hair. (After staying 2 nights in Landmannalaugar where there is no electricity thus no hairdryer, I was looking forward to finally washing my hair at the hostel). It would be great if the hostel provides as least one hairdryer.
8.0 Excellent
Cons: Nice place for a night stay while visiting Iceland
5.5 Okay
Cons: We were not informed that there are two buildings and our room is in the second. We were in hurry to check in with the given code (its self check in) so it was stressfull. It’s ridiculous to have deadline to check in in self checking hotel! And in the summer at 21:00 you have much more intersesting things to do in Iceland. When I wrote e-mail to ask for later check-in it was no answer till I checked-in. Than I was informed the key code works untill 23:00. So why they don”t tell it earlier?! We were driving from Seljalandsfoss to check in and then back to have sunset photos:( Room is very small, with no table and no trash basket Water was cold in the shower in the morning! It is not friendly hotel. First bad experience in Iceland
7.5 Good
Pros: Comfy beds.
Cons: A lot of spiders. Kitchen doesn't have much equipment. There are only three forks for approx. 10 rooms.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: The room was pleasant and clean. The kitchen was very nice. The staff on hand was super helpful.
Cons: The bathroom shower was clogged and dirty.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: None
Cons: The receptionist/ the one who answered the phone is very rude and meanest of all. Terrible.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean, great facilities, great location for the golden circle.
Cons: Check in seemed to be an issue for lots of people. Although we had no issues, a few people did and it was difficult to contact the owner.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, about 1.5 hrs from landmannalaugar. Very friendly family owned business.
Cons: A bit expensive
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: Shower was a joke. Nearly no water coming out of the showerhead plus it was impossible to get the right temperature. (Picture) Sink wasnt clean. There were plenty of dead insects near the windows in the restaurant. Would be kinda easy to clean that up. Restaurant menu said trout on the menu, i got a sort of a salmon. Food was okay. Too expensive for what you get.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: good breakfast. nice view.excellent dinner in the special restaurant. nice hot tub -minutes from the hotel.
7.5 Good
Pros: - Very friendly and supportive staff! - Excellent location for hikes in the Landmannalaugar region - Fresh an varied breakfast buffet - Good but pricy restaurant with splendid views
Cons: - Family room is way too small for a family of 5! - Curtains in family room are not blinding. - Family room was advertised as part of the hotel, while it is part of the guest house. We informed the hotel on above aspects and they accepted our remarks. Hopefully it will be taken into account in further investments as the hotel has great potential. Additional aspects to be improved include: - Facilities and garden in need for refurbishment / refreshment - Viking pool is nice but should be cleaned (algae).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Highlight of our trip!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, staff and breakfast were very good. We needed a base for trips out, Leirubakki was just the job :)

Pros: If you book a cabin for 4 people, each of you will pay only 25 euros. That is just great! The hostel territory is quite nice. Lots of space for parking. We came in quite late (around 2 am) but were able to check in without any problems.
Cons: The heater was broken. There are not that many sockets in the room. One of them did not work. No towels were given.
6.3 Good
Pros: Staff was kind, check in and out process was simple.
Cons: The unpleasant smell continued in the bathroom, and the shower booth was flooded. Covers are not clean. Overall room condition was very poor
5.0 Okay
Cons: Toilet seat was loose, room was not very clean (trash in the trashcan in the bathroom). Double bed was damaged on the end of one side, kind of like sleeping on a slide.

Pros: Amazing location down on the riverside
Cons: The cabin was small for the six of us
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location and easy to find. Staff was easy to communicate with and quick responses to questions. Good price value if you are not super demanding.
Cons: Washer/dryer were broken Lots of mosquitos- would have loved to open windows but no screens to prevent the bugs. Shower stalls were super tiny. For a 6’2” broad shouldered guy this is not an easy shower...you have to was a leg at a time.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The cottages are nice but there are loads of flies outside. I don’t think it’s their fault. Internet is a bit week.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The cottage reminded me my childhood. It was very similar to the alpine style in my Dolomites, so I felt like home! Very quiet and close to the river. Sitting inside, we could even watch the birds fishing, my daughter really loved it.
Cons: The kitchen equipment was quite worn out.
7.5 Good
Pros: Fantastic location right on the Ranga river. Within walking distance to a grocery store and a nice wool shop. The restaurant on premises was a huge plus as well.
Cons: Several things were in moderate disrepair — the shower door, the window latches, the railing on the porch. It feels quite a lot like a hostel, which is fine. But it could use a little loving care.
7.5 Good
Pros: The little wooden cottage was just next to the river with a beautiful view. The kitchen was good enough to prepare some quick and easy food.
Cons: There was no frying pan in the kitchen.
7.5 Good
Pros: The region and cabin overall
Cons: The beds
