Known as the “Kite Capital of the World,” it has the perfect coastal winds for the sport, as well as forested cliffs and towering sand dunes. What’s more, you’ll find soft sand beaches, incredible views across the Pacific Ocean and plenty of art. I often do a road trip from California to friends in Washington State, and this is one of my favourite stops on the way. I always stay for a few days to eat lobster, explore pup-friendly beaches and meet friendly locals. There are a few great boutique hotels in town, but there are also some extra special lodges up and down the coast just outside of Lincoln itself. There’s something for absolutely everybody here. Here’s my pick of the best hotels in Lincoln City.

This totally rad and remodelled spot is one of the best hotels in Lincoln City if you want to be where the fun is. I love the surf-inspired décor and casual West Coast style at the Surfland Hotel. There’s a host of rooms and suites to choose from, all fresh, laidback and perfect for a weekend surf getaway. I recommend booking a Fireplace Suite with gorgeous views and a little kitchenette.

I loved the hotel’s outdoor courtyard area with bocce ball (similar to bowls) and a fire pit. You can walk directly onto the beach from here or just hang out on the sundeck facing the ocean.

I recommend asking about the hotel’s beach bonfire setup, where they give you a gourmet 1927 s’mores kit, some roasting sticks, firewood and a suggestion of where to set up an evening chill spot on the beach (in case you didn't know, s’mores are a delicious treat consisting of toasted marshmallow and chocolate sandwiched between two graham crackers).

A little north of the city itself, this is one of the best hotels in Lincoln City for pure luxury. It’s set alongside the famed Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area on the Pacific Coast. I highly recommend booking an Ocean Front Lodge or one of the Ocean Front Cottages for stellar views.

Headlands Coastal Lodge and Spa has plenty of great experiences to keep you busy, from hikes, bikes and yoga to visiting the tide pools at night, exploring the dunes and keeping a lookout for grey whales. Don’t miss the spa; the hot stone and ginger massage is a must.

I love taking a sandboard and whizzing down the 240-foot Great Dune. After all that you’ll have worked up an appetite. Head to the hotel’s elegant restaurant, Meridian, where you can feast on dishes made using ingredients from local farmers and the hotel’s garden.

This pared-back, casual property is one of the best hotels in Lincoln City for panoramic oceanfront views. It’s located right in town, so you can easily walk to cute restaurants, shops and attractions. I recommend checking out the collection of Japanese glass fishing floats at the nearby North Lincoln County Historical Museum.

The boutique lodge-style hotel has an array of studios and suites – for a romantic getaway, I recommend booking a Sunset Suite in the adults-only section of the lodge. From there you can wander right down the dune onto the beach and enjoy that perfect white sand.

The hotel also has a heated indoor pool, a well-equipped gym, a hot tub and a sauna. It’s a seriously cosy coastal hideaway and when the weather turns chilly, you can’t beat playing board games beside the fireplace.

Salishan Coastal Lodge is right in the heart of the Oregon Coast, between forested bluffs and famed Siletz Bay. You’ll find a range of simple, well-appointed guestrooms and suites here – I recommend booking a Bay or Forest View Premier Room with a fireplace and private balcony.

There are plenty of amenities to keep the whole family happy, from beach cruiser bikes and private beach access to Tesla charging stations and preferred tee times at the Golf Links. Kids will love the indoor swimming pool and on-site Aerial Park, and dogs are allowed to stay too.

The cooked-to-order breakfast at the hotel’s casual dining spot, Provisions Market, is fantastic, while more upmarket feasting can be found at The Attic, which serves up farm-to-fork dishes on an outdoor heated patio overlooking the property.

Just a little south of Lincoln City is where you’ll find this lovely inn. If you’re after hot tubs and views over the ocean, this is one of the best boutique hotels in Lincoln City. It's also a great spot for nature lovers, as there are often sightings of orca whales and bald eagles right from the hotel.

It’s a romantic place (think Champagne and sleeping in late), so it doesn’t allow kids. Restaurant Beck will surprise and delight in equal measure. Almost all the ingredients are local or foraged, and the award-winning chef prides himself on combining traditional and progressive cooking techniques.

If you want to get away for a romantic weekend, this is one of the best hotels in Lincoln City for couples. It’s also a top place to stay if you’re planning to get out on the water – ask the concierge about doing a trip with one of the local fishermen on a charter.

A weekend at Stephane Inn feels more like staying at a friend’s very chic, perfectly done beach house than a hotel. It’s an idyllic spot for a weekend escape, with gorgeous guestrooms and suites.

My top pick is the Carriage House – you have to navigate a few stairs, but it’s more than worth it for the ocean views from the private patio. Dining is a real highlight here, with chef Aaron Bedard creating true culinary gems in the dining room. He serves up a feast every night, with produce from the hotel’s own Public Coast Farm.

Besides all the outdoor activities on offer, my favourite spot was the spa, where I indulged in a first-class facial. Don’t leave without trying one of the treatments – they use only the finest botanical extracts, marine algae and essential oils.

Looking Glass Inn is a fantastic beach getaway for the whole family – including the pups. This is one of the best hotels in Lincoln City in terms of location. You can’t do much better, as it’s across the street From Mo’s Seafood and Chowder (the quintessential foodie spot in town) and right next door to Eleanor’s Ice Cream.

It truly is an iconic locale in the Historic Taft District of Lincoln City, and the hotel has lots of lovely, antique-style rooms and suites. I highly recommend booking one with a private balcony with views and a fireplace, so be sure to ask before check-in.

It’s also worth asking about their outdoor crab cooking station (the seafood in Oregon is to die for), or you can just do what we did and sit at their cosy outdoor fire pit to watch the stars.

Shearwater Inn is located north of the D River (argued to be the shortest river in the world!), right in the centre of Lincoln City. It’s also next door to Kyllo’s Oceanfront Restaurant, which I highly recommend visiting during your trip. The hotel is in a prime location for being able to walk to all of Lincoln City’s best spots.

Whether you’re going glass blowing at Lincoln City Glass Center, hitting the golf courses, exploring the many art galleries in town or finding a beautiful beach that’s not too crowded, you can do all this and more on foot from Shearwater Inn.

The hotel has a range of pet-friendly rooms and suites available – my top pick is a suite with a full kitchen, ocean views and a cosy fireplace. The rooms and suites all have Juliette balconies or decks, where you can watch out for whales in your pyjamas.

Set in the north end of town, this little inn is one of the best hotels in Lincoln City for a peaceful getaway. It’s a little way from the action, but still has a fantastic oceanfront location with direct beach access. Plus, the views from the suites and studio rooms here are hard to beat.

If you can afford to splurge, I recommend going for an Oceanfront Two Bedroom Suite, which comes with a living area and full kitchen. It’s a great place to hang out and play games before going for a stroll on the beach (if you’re travelling with children, ask reception about the big selection of games and beach toys they have to borrow during your stay).

During your visit, don’t miss the nearby Roads End State Recreation Site, which features glorious tidepools, tiny islands and a hidden cove.

For a well-priced spot right on the ocean, this is one of the best hotels in Lincoln City to book. The hotel’s large suites face the ocean, while a King Loft Suite is ideal for two couples travelling together. It comes with a full kitchen, two king beds and spectacular views.

If you’re not a fan of hitting the beach, you can hang out at the hotel’s outdoor heated swimming pool instead, or relax in the hot tub or sauna.

The hotel’s location is also great for lots of attractions around town, including the Devil's Lake State Recreation Area, the Connie Hansen Garden Conservancy and the Chinook Winds Casino Resort (all of which are less than three miles away). If you’re up for a slightly longer drive, don’t miss the gorgeous Fogarty Creek State Recreation Area and OPRD Whale Watching Center.
