The staff were very friendly
"Vintage" is just an excuse for not remodeling anything ever. The elevators are ancient, tiny, and do not work. The rooms are disgusting. It's a very old building and it shows (the corners of the room are completely deteriorating). Gross, old carpet. There were hairs and black smudges all over the pillows and sheets. The products and towels were all low grade. Everything is a hassle: the Internet, parking ($24 a night is your only option), only one guy managing the valet/security so it's not exactly an efficient operation. This place is not even close to being worth the price. They just rip you off at every point and provide band-aid cover ups instead of actually making it a quality hotel. I should have just stayed at the Motel 6 and saved a few bucks since it is probably the same quality (better?) as this place.
The staff were definitely friendly, and helpful.
Certainly the elavator was conversation pieace . Often took the stairs it was slow,. my room was very small which would have been fine as I was solo , but to was old , had mould , did not have a dresser , no where to put my clothes . The bath room was so out dated it scared me each time I had to go I it . The towels , bed sheets were clean and fresh but room was not , dust that has been there for as long as the hotel , definitely needs to be renovated
Loved the historic nature of the old hotel and the staff wereally outstanding. The restaurant had the best chicken and waffles in the west.
The hotel is located above some very popular clubs and it is LOUD. We should have expected a restless night...there were earplugs waiting for us on the bed. We were on the 8th floor and it was loud enough there. I can only imagine how loud it was below us.
wifi did not work, stadd did not do much to help.
The gym consists of a tiny room barely big enough to hold one rusting elliptical and one ancient treadmill. If you're looking for a workout, look elsewhere.
there is no parking
We booked with a group of 11 people. The rooms are old but comfortable. The hotel is very laid back and the staff is very friendly. My group really liked the rooftop sitting area it has a great view and it it spacious enough for different groups of people to spread out and have their own space. We also really liked that after a certain hour at night there is security outside the main lobby to ensure that only hotel guests are getting in.keep in mind this is an old hotel. It is beautiful but a little quirky. My group enjoyed the character of the rooms
We had no complaints other then some of our rooms did have a odd smell. Nothing we couldn't handle but defiantly noticeable when u walk into the room. I would say 2 out of the 5 rooms carried this odor
Friendly and courteous staff. Good, quick, service from and to airport. Convenient but expensive 24-hour restaurant next door, with hotel delivery.
Elevators are 19th century. Should be replaced by modern elevators (with no hard-to-move hand-sliding doors to open, to get in and out of the elevator). My room had an intense steady hum coming from outside (probably from some gigantic fan). Annoying. Room was rather small (but OK with me). However, the coffee-maker set-up was wedged in a space between the bed and wall-ledge, with only a 10 inch space to wiggle through, to get to the coffee-maker and brew the coffee.
Location Price Comfortable bed Friendly staff Roof top patio was great!! Restaurant portions enormous!! Lots of placed to hang or dine in walking distance
Rooms were a little small Had to pay for valet parking
The charm if the hotel was great. Staff was very helpful, and informative. I loved the old fashioned elevator still in use.
Old and unsanitary. Next time, would pay more to stay at a hotel that is more clean.
None of the above best describes Ramada. Was good place. No complaints. Good shuttle service to airport. Would stay there again. Good restaurants close by.
Parking fee if $24. Place would go up a notch if replaced their alleging. . Have done good job of remodeling older hotel. Would recommend.
the front desk attitude was really rude and the shirt uniform of the guy was cut from the sleeves. we couldn't handle how dirty is the room and the hotel so we canceled it and we lost some money but better to stay in real dirty place
I requested a crib for my little son and in 15 min we had it. No sheets, pillow or towels. I asked for them of course. It took 3 more calls to reception and 1 full hour before they were brought up. No towels... It was past 11pm by then and way past my son's bedtime. Could not help noticing that there were not many guests (it was Christmas day) and the front desk was well staffed.
Will not be staying here again.
Pros: Location! Price Staff Great Valet parking price
Cons: Could be cleaner Wifi didn't always work
The elevator is small and hard to navigate with luggage. Tiny room. There were window A/C Units. On the eighth floor, with A/c, I could still hear street noise all night. Awful. But clean!
The staff, Manager Matthew and team, were very attentive and made my stay a pleasant one. The adjoining restaurant, Brian's 24, had great food, impeccable service and I loved the nostalgic decor. Great marriage between the hotel and restaurant, they're like peanut butter and jelly; you must have them both to truly appreciate the nostalgic experience.
Apparently I've seen one too many scary movies with a hotel setting; The Shining and Room 1408 are the two that came to mind. I was a little apprehensive staying at a 100+ year old hotel based on my unfounded spooks, but I fell in love with the character of the hotel and found a great appreciation for the history, like a grandparent or elder relative.
Location Location Location On-site 24 hr restaurant (not bad) Historic interest (elevator is a trip) Rates Friendly staff Clean rooms as modernized as could be expected
No pool Rooms small, hallways small, elevators small (hotels have changed in 100 years) Can get noisy (They say. Not much going on downtown Thanksgiving)
For $69/nt. at a Ramada in the heart of downtown San Diego in the Gaslamp Quarter, you will be hard-pressed to find a more economical value. The hotel is an historic renovation of the 1900 era St. James. The rooms are small if you book the standard queen, but efficient with plenty of electric outlets and wifi. There is also a small business center in the hotel on the second floor. Room cleanliness is slightly above average. Free Shuttle to the airport is a big winner.
Expect to pay a $25 refundable deposit on check -in, because as guests we are possible reprobates.
Location was great!
The bed was uncomfortable. The room was small, but enough for one or two. Lots of street noise, but they do offer ear plugs. The hotel itself is very outdated. The elevator is small, slow and over 100 years old.
The location was in walking distance of all we needed.
Thin walls- could hear others in next room. Loud outside noise- 24 hr restaurant with bar/outdoor smoking patio directly below our room Smoky - from the bar patio and the pot smoking on our floor
Location, clean rooms
The staff were very helpful. I liked that they called our room to make sure that we were satisfied. I have never had that happen before! Access to the roof top was really nice.
We liked it all! Being from Europe a small room is not an issue. Thank you!
Perfect location. Walking distance to all the bars. Connecting restaraunt open 24 hrs. Roof top had a gorgeous view of the city.
Online they say queen beds but I'm pretty sure they are full size. It's run down which explains why it's so affordable. The front desk didn't return our bag that contained all of our alcohol to us. We had brand new bottles. Don't know if it was a mistake or if it was something shady but it still shouldn't have happened.
Elevator is scary old and a hassle. Very loud at night Window ac units
The room was small, old and noisy. The sheets had a funny smell and the bathroom didn't even have a tub. Instead there was a drain right in the middle of the bathroom. I couldn't sleep because of all the noise that I thought was coming from the air conditioning unit. When I turned it off there was still noise coming from who knows where. As I was checking out the valet lost the car keys for the couple who was before us. I'm not sure how this place even received over 3 stars
It is hard to beat the location! The hotel was close to many good restaurants and bars! We were only there for one night, so that was really the only upside.
Since we were only staying for one night, I didn't mind paying a little less for a hotel. However, that was the wrong decision this time. The bathroom was one of the dirtiest bathrooms that I have ever stayed in. There was long hair all over the floor, towels, and tub. Also, the drain in the shower was so clogged; it took about 30 seconds for the tub to have standing water-nasty.
It was fine. Clean. Staff were very nice.
It was fine. Just fine. But. The room was so so small as was the bathroom. I guess understandably as it's an old building. That said, I would have been uncomfortable sharing the room with another person due to size. And I spent most of my time at another friends hotel. I wouldn't' be upset to stay here again, but I wouldn't choose to if that makes sense. So basically just know that it's small. Maybe not all the rooms are. But if it's an issue for you, I would absolutely call and talk to them before booking.
Historic building, great rooftop, amazing view
Elevator is historic (very slow) and hard to operate if you have luggage with you. Very close to several night clubs so it can get kind of loud.
Staff are friendly and helpful
The noise in the room itself and the sound from dripping water in the bathtub really disturbed my sleep. Even though free wifi is available, I could not access it from my room. Finally the room and bathroom are both so small
staff was friendly and helpful
I liked that the hotel had a restaurant on the premises .
I disliked how my room was right above the restaurant. The bar is open 24hours and traveling with small children that loud noise ALL NIGHT made it impossible to get any rest!
The front desk clerk addressed the problems, though he oddly never apologized for them. The location is good.
First the room keys didn't work. Then they fixed them, and the room was occupied. Then they gave us a new room. Then the printer (the only one) in the "business center" would not work due to lack of toner. They couldn't replace the toner, so they printed my file at the front desk. The hotel is old, and the rooms are small, but I knew that going in. I did not like the other problems, however.
