Located in the province of Puerto Plata in the northern Dominican Republic, Cabarete's sandy beach, abundance of nightlife and variety of world-class watersports make it one of the most popular Caribbean destinations for holidaymakers seeking a lively atmosphere. Though Cabarete is a small town, it is remarkably diverse. Sandwiched between an ocean and lush jungle, the range of cultures and backgrounds of the town's population grant it a cosmopolitan feel, with a wide selection of restaurants and shops to be found in the area.
Cabarete benefits from a near perfect year-round climate and is great to visit at any time. Temperatures hover in the mid to high 20's throughout, with only minor differences between the seasons, though those visiting between October and January should be prepared for the occasional rain shower. Cabarete holidays begin at Puerta Plata Airport, which is a 20-minute drive from the centre of the town. The easiest way to get around town is by foot, though the plentiful taxis and public transport are also an option. For a fun way to get around try one of the local 'motoconcho' services, which consists of a motorbike and a driver who will take you anywhere for a set fee. Driving in the Dominican Republican can be hazardous, and should only be attempted if absolutely determined. Cabarete is in the Atlantic Standard Time zone (GMT-4).
Cabarete is famous for its watersports competitions, but the water isn't just for the professionals - plenty of companies offer day-long lessons, so everyone can have a go! Away from the water tourists can try their hand at haggling at one of the local stores. In the evening, head to the main strip - Cabarete's nightlife is friendly and lively, and excellent for a night of dancing.
