DON'T BOOK HERE: Most incompetent and unprofession

Pros: They spoke reasonable English

Cons: I was delayed arriving for the initial rental time of 17:00 and called the Klagenfurt station a few minutes after that time to warn them of the late arrrival, by no one would pick up the phone and after several tries I called the central Avis reservation number in Austria and requested the time to be changed to 19:30. They suggested putting 20:00 instead and guaranteed me that it would not be a problem to pick the car if I arrived earlier. When getting to Klagenfurt airport the Avis station was closed even though it's supposed to be open until 21:45 according to their website. When calling the mobile of the "responsible" person he started immediately trying to blame me for a "no show", which is obviously a lie as I had called to change the booking. He also had my mobile number in the system and did not bother calling me before closing the station. I was late for a very important meeting and he said that someone could come to give me the car I booked (Opel Corsa equivalent) "in around half an hour" and refused to consider alternatives such as delivering the car elsewhere so that I would not be even later for my meeting - the problem was 1000% their fault to start with, so that's the least they should have done. They lied again and gave me a huge moving van (MB Sprinter), claiming that "no other cars were available" (what on earth had they done with the "normal" car I had booked). As I was going to drive more than 600kms to Venice and back this was outrageously unacceptable (fuel costs, parking, etc) so I was left with no options other than ask a friend to help my and give me a ride to my appointment. Their behaviour was pathetically unprofessional and I would wholeheartedly recommend their contractual franchise relationship with Avis to be immediately terminated. I am also considering legal action to claim compensation for the damages caused. Avis in Klagenfurt is to be absolutely avoided as they do not deserve to represent that company's brand. Their reckless irresponsibility should be severely punished and I certainly intend to make sure that happens even if only for the sake of future potential victims of their incompetence.
