Phenomenal Staff!!!Pros: The staff at this location at the Malaga Train Station went above and beyond what we had expected. They made sure that we had the proper automobile and made a special trip to bring us a more comfortable automobile for my family. This is why I only rent from this location when visiting Malaga. The Staff is Brilliant.

Car pick up in Malaga AiroortPros: The car was very nice and new.Cons: Woman showing us to car was awful! I rented the car and did contract at airport, but she would only speak to my husband. Very odd, to only speak to males. I ask to take her name to speak to manager and she took off her name tag and wouldn’t show it to me. I told her I’d take her photo then and she tried to grab my camera. Bizarre! Be careful women! Also did not have car size reserved and had to pay more to upgrade.

Bait and switchCons: First, the counter person was insistent that I had to take the vehicle that they were offering, which was nowhere near what I had requested. They lied to us, saying that they did not have another vehicle, until I told them to cancel the reservation, and went and stood on the Avis line. Then, all of a sudden, another vehicle popped up, miraculously. They still charged the same price, as if a luxury vehicle, and over charged for the insurance. I do not feel that we should have even been charged for the vehicle which I turned in less than 24 hours after getting it. Very bad experience, very poor customer service, not the way to start any vacation.

Cons: I followed your suggestion bought an insurance to cover my rental vehicle at Eurocar rental. The policy number is PL11319420303 of Allianz Global Assistance. But at the rental company, a lady rep. said I have no insurance and almost force me to buy their own insurance. I told her I have an insurance when I booked and paid my contract. She still says I need one , otherwise I will get trouble. Finally, she charged me higher security deposit for did not buy Eurocar own insurance. It is every bad business action to the customers.

Great experience!Pros: The car was clean and ready at the pick up time. It was exactly as described. The customer service was great as well.Cons: Nothing.
Pros: Super easy pick up at the airport counter then a small walk to the garage at the airport to get in the car and go. No pressure on buying extra insurance or upgrading.Cons: Over all one of the best rental encounters I have had in over 40 years.

Pros: The staff was friendly, helpful and spoke enough English to help us through the process. Rental instructions were clear.Cons: We weren't sure where to drop the car off in the parking structure. We randomly parked it and told the staff where we put it. They were fine with that, but we should have parked it on -2 rather than -1...next time we'll know.

Cons: Kayak computed incorrect tax on our invoice. We had to pay another €20 at return. Other than that one thing, everything was perfect. Oh, and one other thing, the directions to return the car need to be a lot more of a step by step type of thing. It simply says return at airport. Uh, yeah. Go to airport. Ok. Then what? Where? This needs to say exactly where one is going. Easy. Small. Needs added. Again, great experience.

UnorganizedPros: The service rep in Malaga was very nice and very helpfulCons: Poor functioning car. Low tire pressure. Multiple notices about service which was due. Had to fill one tire 4 times during trip Malaga noted car as no damage. Madrid counted all minor scratches and door nicks and tried to charge me for them. They were aggressive and unfriendly. We were told the car was red and in a certain space number. The car was gray and in a different number and I wonder if they mixed up keys I rent cars frequently and from Hertz and this whole situation and car will steer me away from Hertz and Avis forever.

made up chargesCons: When we arrived, the person insisted that the credit card we used be in my husband's name (the driver). Since it was in mine, they charged us three times the amount of the rental in unneeded insurance that was "required." It wasn't, but we had no choice. Then the final charge was even more, for reasons we don't know. Stay away.

Pros: The car got good diesel mileage.Cons: The process of renting was incomplete and confusing in that it was not possible to tell that the car was not available at the airport and we had to go into the city to get it. The insurance that was needed for basic coverage was three times the rental cost.

Pros: Location was right at the airport and made for easy check in and check outCons: I was attempting to be specific on types of car I would receive and even attempted to speak to Avis ahead of time. Very long wait to collect the carPros: Car was as described, drop off was very easy and well sign posted, you can collect the car with a full tank of fuel. Competitive price.Cons: There is an extra fuel charge, even if you bring back the car full. Two and a half hour wait at the airport in a very big queue to collect the car. Staff did not explain that the car was parked in the Europecar area which meant it took us a long time to find. Car smelt a bit strange but other than that was clean.

Worst Ever Experience in car rental, stay away from Economy rent a carPros: NothingCons: I booked full insurance online for 72$, yet the guy at the pickup in Malaga said this is not valid and wanted to charge me again for this. I showed him all papers to proof the insurance but he insisted. He also said that he will charge me for 100 Euro as my booking is full tank to empty tank while in the booking it was only 40 Euro. He said they will pay for someone to go and fill it on top of the fuel cost so it adds to 100 Euro. In total instead of paying 112 Euro for my booking, I paid 250 euro and that was after 2 hours of delay, frustration, fights, calls, ...... my worst ever experience in car rental. Never ever again to book with them.

I was surprised that there are still bait and switches happeningPros: It’s hard to give any positives. Perhaps the quick transfer back to the airport.Cons: I reserved a Mercedes SLC (premium convertible or similar car) from economy car rental. When I arrived in Malaga, Spain, I soon discovered that Economy Car Rental didn’t have a kiosk there. They aren’t actually a car rental company, they’re more of a broker. There were no instructions for what to do. So I googled and found a number that eventually put me in touch with a local at “Auto Lido” which was more used car dealership than car rental. When I arrived at Auto Lido, they tried to put me in a Honda Civic. They didn’t have any convertibles available. The swarthy little man who took care of us informed me that he could do a better price if I canceled my Kayak reservation and rented from him directly. None of the prices they showed me were consistent with the Kayak pricing. It was only after I asked to be shuttled back to the airport that they “found” a convertible for me at a discounted price. However, it was a 2011 Puegeot Convertible with about 70,000 miles on it. I only took it because I had prepaid the insurance, they discounted the price and no other rental place had convertibles available. We had made plans to take long drives through the country and along the coast in a convertible. My advice would be to avoid Economy Car Rental.
As a tourist in Malaga, renting a car is the best way to discover the Costa del Sol in comfort. As well as offering total independence on your visit, it is also a cheap way to travel. Rather than booking a taxi or taking other time-consuming public transport, a car gives you the chance to visit the whole Andalucía region, including the neighboring traditional villages and cities, like Granada and Seville, which are only a few hours drive away.
Looking to rent a car on your vacation to Malaga? As the main airport in the Costa Del Sol, Málaga Airport offers plenty of car hire options on site. When you land, you will find the car hire desks located in the Basement in Terminal 2 and on the Ground Floor of Terminal 3.
When you visit Malaga, you will notice that there are lots of roundabouts where drivers already on the roundabout have the right of way. You must also remember that passing on the right is illegal. The roads in and around Malaga are well-maintained and signposted; however, you must take great care on the coastal N340 road, which has a few dangerous spots. The main A7 Motorway stretches along the Costa del Sol and leads to Algeciras, or you can take the faster route on the AP-7 toll road.
Similar to other cities around Spain, there are four rush hour periods to watch out for during the day. In the morning you can expect traffic between 8:00 and 9:30, during lunchtime from 12:30 to 2:30 pm, in the early evening between 3:30 and 5:00 pm, and at night from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. During the peak months of June to August, many of the main roads, especially the N340, suffer from large traffic jams.

If you want to discover the sights of Malaga and the rest of the Andalucía region, you need to rent a comfortable car that’s suitable for the inner city, motorway, and coastal driving. Whether you want to soak up the summer sun in a convertible or are staying in the heart of Malaga, a smaller car is advisable to travel around the narrower, older streets. However, if you want to take the rural roads to nearby villages, an SUV would be better suited to your journey.
When you drive around the center of Malaga, you will need to keep to the speed limit of 31 mph. If you take the motorway, or autopista, the limit is 74 mph, whereas on a dual carriageway, or autovia, the speed limit is 62 mph. The speed limit on Malaga’s main roads, or carreteras, is 55 mph, whilst signposts will show the speed limits on secondary and rural roads. It’s important to drive carefully in Malaga as there are several speeding radars across the city.
Compared to the rest of Spain, petrol prices in Malaga are relatively low. The average price for a gallon of petrol is $5.48 in Malaga. The best place to fill up is in supermarket petrol stations, which are much cheaper than those found next to the motorways. When you fill up, you must remember that petrol will be purchased in liters, not gallons.
Even though free parking in the center of Malaga is limited, there are several places in and around the city where you can pay to park your hire car. You will be able to park in blue zones, where you will pay at a ticket machine, or you can opt for the municipal underground parking lot, where you can expect to pay between €25.00 and €30.00 a day (approximately $28.00-$34.00 USD). Plaza de Marina is the perfect place to park as it’s a large parking lot located in the historic center, under Malaga’s main shopping street.
