Pros: Friendly and fast serviceCons: Use the online registration to fill in in the contract automatically (employe of rental company need to fill in the contract manually) which only need to check on-site.
Pros: I rented 3 cars from Thrifty in downtown Rome, Olbia (Sardegna) and Napoli (airport). Staff was helpful and I got the car in 15-20 minutes in Rome and Napoli but it took ~40 minutes in Olbia. The cars worked well, were new and matched or exceeded what I have reserved. Drop off was quick.Cons: Accelerate the pick up time. Ensure the estimated costs match what the customer pays at the end.

Did not get the car I contracted for on online. Very disappointed!Pros: Ez drop off.Cons: I got a car I wasn't expecting. My online price was $170 US. Plus full insurance. I paid over $450US. I paid far too much for a car I didn't expect - unless the charge for full insurance was over $275. So please check my original online reservation and add the insurance coverage. Then compare that to my bill. Can you see why I am very disappointed and believe that I was seriously over-charged! Please respond and include my billing statement with the breakdown of the costs. I appreciate you attention to my complaint. Thank you, Anthony

They charged an extra $25 per day for the exact car we had reservedCons: We had reserved an SUV “Nissan Pathfinder or similar”. They said Kayak had mis-coded it in their system and they had it listed as a Jeep Wrangler. Our confirmation was very clear as described above. We got an SUV that was Nissan, just like a pathfinder, but it cost us an extra $75!! We had no other choices besides a wrangler without additional charges so we were forced to pay extra or leave without a car. This is unacceptable and shouldn’t have been our responsibility due to their (or Kayak’s) coding error.

Pros: Booked a fiat Panda, which was not available nor a similar category. Hertz wanted 20€ extra a day for a larger size car. I didn't accept and in the end got the larger category without extra fee.Cons: None

Pros: car (almost) was brand newCons: Even though the reservation was pre-paid the agent tried to push sale of any possible additional option, and he was pushy
Pros: PriceCons: Aggressive method to sell additional insurance Pay for fuel upfront ? Tried to cash in deposit saying my visa credit card wasn't a credit card Does not accept Amex Long waiting lines for pick up / drop off
Worst rental car experience in 16 yearsPros: The cars were cleanCons: The rental process took almost 3 hours with a reservation. In the end they told us they gave our car to someone else. They have you sign a form saying the car has no damage and then you walk to the lot and see damage all over the vehicle and a bashed in fender. This place makes extra money by charging for damage to vehicles. The reservation price is not what you end up paying. Avoid this location.

The desk is at hertz, and it hurtPros: I couldn't even get to the front of the line. Nothing about this was good.Cons: There was a super long line of Germans. They all looked extremely upset when they got to the front. It looked like it would take at least an hour before we were helped, so we went to another rental car place and paid about 3x the price. This was my worst car rental experience ever.

Driving on Sardinia is generally a hassle-free and enjoyable experience, but bigger cities like Olbia can clog up, specifically during the summer holidays. When driving through the countryside, also watch out for flocks of sheep that may suddenly cross the street. Also, check the ZTL for Olbia and make sure not to enter it without a valid pass. ZTL signifies a zona traffico limitato, which is an area where entering with a car is only allowed during certain times of the day and may require a pass. Ask for information at the car hire service or at your hotel.
Exploring the scenic landscape of Sardinia is one of the best experiences when going to Olbia, but be aware that road conditions can be challenging and sometimes roads simply turn into dirt tracks riddled with potholes and bumps. Make sure to get proper insurance to cover all sorts of damages and drive slowly and attentively when going off the grid.
