Pros:

It was a new vehicle in good condition and it was clean but a major downgrade from what Kayak advertised and what I expected based on how much I paid.

Cons:

The staff was friendly but it was super frustrating how much time they made me waste while coercing me to buy extra insurance that I didn't want or need. I didn't appreciate all their intimidation techniques as well as with the prepayment of the fuel tank as if that was the only option. Also Kayak advertised a Chevrolet Tahoe or equivalent for the full size SUV category and when I got there they said the Chevrolet Equinox was their full size version and had nothing bigger available without a major increase in price. I feel ripped off on every front and will never again rent through Kayak or from Alamo.

We reserved a vehicle from this company when we were at home, but when we arrived at the airport we were told the car we had reserved was already rented out to somebody, and instead were offered a more expensive alternative option that we had to turn down.

Careful with rate posted and final total. After reserving I got there. Total was to be about 54 dollars. When I went to pick up the car I was told 180. Bait and switch. Will never use again

On the rental site it says there are no additional or surprise fees— and when I got there, they wouldn’t let me rent the car without paying an additional $250 for 3rd party insurance. And when I said there shouldn’t be additional charges bc my credit card offers covers coverage— it didn’t matter. They said it was the law. and they also wouldn’t let me cancel my rental so I was stuck paying WAY more for a rental. The drop off was great… but overshadowed.

I like the friendly staff but the car I received was not in good condition for the price I paid,it had a lot of scratches everywhere,not enough gas power for a Ford Explorer,I had to get it replaced and the replacement looked a bit better but had sensors light on,a buzzing sound when the AC was on plus both Explorer had issues with the lifting of the middle seats to get to the last row. My daughter had to jump back on top of the seats to get to the back. The cars need more maintenance. Especially at those prices.

Everything was wonderful at the airport, picking up the car and returning it. The staff (Geovanni and Abigail) were wonderful at the Puerto Plata airport. The office was easy to find and both staff members were bilingual. My only objection was the required basic insurance, which added $180 to my final bill. That was the only thing I was not happy about.

The terminal rental process is slow. Car seats were dirty & stained. The desk agent was polite but the process is of renting is slow. Checking the car in on the return is also slow.

Cons:

After taking a taxi to the airport, we were surprised to hear from the associate that apparently the amount paid via Kayak was only an estimate and that the actual price would be more than three times the original price. Because of this we cancelled the car reservation but were stuck paying taxis there and back and paying nonrefundable insurance. The associate was rude and gave no other options. We will most likely not book via Kayak anymore. Thank you, Isabel Haehnel

The price that was on the booking form was not honoured - it nearly doubled. They offered me the chance to cancel at the desk but of course by then I was stuck with no transport. This seems to becoming common - Enterprise do the same think at airports

This was a typical bait-and-switch deal, with the prices not showing that they require extra insurance fees. I have American Express with Car Rental Premium Insurance that is cheaper and far better insurance than the ones that they make you take with their "lowest" car rental plan. When I asked for the same car without insurance, the rate they quoted was almost $400 higher than what was reserved. I asked them to cancel the rental and moved to National Car Rental.

Initially, the ad was for a 4 door but I received a confirmation for a 2 or 4 door. Worked for days trying to get support to change that and could not. Then, when we picked up the car we were charged several hundred $$ for mandatory insurance that I've NEVER had to pay. It was a terrible experience all around
