Best Enterprise location in the area
Pros: I did much better with these guys than with the dominant Enterprise location here (in Redwood City that sells off the used cars). I usually have issues with them using a debit card, but this rental was much smoother and painless. Fast in, fast out, got a good car, no hassles when I needed to extend a bit.
Cons: I would sign up for an account with Enterprise and become a more permanent customer if that meant they wouldn't have to run a credit check and take two forms of ID on every single rental. Unfortunately their companywide policy is: let credit cards slide, always check debit cards.

Pros: That I did not have the same experience I had last year when they had overbooked and I only got a mini van at the last second. Very stressful!! This year Kyle Sacher at the 2821 El Camino Real, Redwood City, CA, office took care of me and did an excellent job. The car was there and ready, and everything went as smoothly as possible. Thank you, Kyle!
Pros: Dropoff was fast and nice. Car was small and comfortable.
Cons: Pickup was with problems, because KAYAK approved the pickup time - 6 pm, but the Hertz office was already closed at this time, so we were compelled to pickup our car on the next day morning. It was sad... Check the open hours of offices before reservation.

Bad customer service from Hertz
Pros: Car was clean
Cons: I added a day and the price went up by a third. When I then tried to change it back, the price was $50 higher for the same time period and they wouldn't honor the original rate. I wanted to cancel but the cancellation charge was also $50, so I felt stuck.
Then the car I got was not I would say the same type as promised.
Finally, when I dropped it off at some point a rock had hit the windshield, through no fault of my own as they recognized, but I still had to pay for that- on top of the car being more expensive than what I had originally signed up for, the value ended up being pretty terrible. And the franchisee did not care.

Incredibly low price thru Kayak
Pros: The daily rate for the weekend was incredibly cheap (low 20 a day), and the car was an okay Toyota compact that gave 33 miles a gallon. Santa Claus came early

Pros: Pick-up was easy and convenient and the man we worked with (I think he was the manager) was very friendly and helpful. He made this an overall great experience.
Cons: On the day of drop-off we worked with a man who wasn't very friendly. He made us feel more like an inconvenience to him than a customer who deserved good care. We understood that it was the end of the day, and that they were busy, but we felt that his attitude and customer service was below what's expected in the industry. Despite that, we'd still recommend this Hertz, because we had such a positive experience with the other representatives.
Pros: Staff was dressed nicely and were very nice.
Cons: When receiving the car i insisted that the tires were not inflated enough and they checked it with a dinky tire gauge...
An few hours out of san francisco the tire went flat and i got stuck on the side of the road.
Car was dirty and smelled like it wasnt even aired out after the last driver.
Car had some gear issue at the end of the trip and kept over heating.
It was very very expensive for the car i got.

Very friendly, too generous
Pros: Staff was very friendly. For the same price, gave us a super upgrade which was extremely comfortable and felt very safe.
Cons: BUT we didn't want an upgrade, even for the same price. Ended up with way too much car, one with an extended learning curve (even the guy walking us through it couldn't explain the navigation to us, and it was not intuitive!)
