Bait and switch. I reserved a Jeep Compass which they said wasn’t available so they wanted to substitute a Kia Soul. They offered to to upgrade a Mitsubishi Outlander for $$$.

Staff was so friendly and helpful. Car was great. I didn't realize it was offsite. Plan extra time for airtrain and then shuttle on each end. Shuttle was quick, it's just an extra step because it's off-site.

When I prepaid a tank of gas they did not tell me there would be additional taxes and fees added to the cost of the tank of gas which made the actual cost $1.00 per gallon higher than I was quoted. It would have been cheaper to fill up the tank myself, before bringing it back.

I was given a scratched-up Toyota Corolla with 55k+ miles. I barely made it to the highway when the "maintenance required" light went on. When moving slowly in traffic, the car's engine run every unevenly. A few miles later, the tire pressure signal came on. I called Fox and was told that it was probably because the car needed an oil change. Because of all the caution lights, I decided to not leave for a day-trip the next day, and returned the car after work. When I confronted the manager about the poor shape the car was in, he admitted it was Fox's fault that the "maintenance required" light came on, but accused me of not knowing much about cars and told me, rudely, that there was nothing he could do.

We struggled to understand the person who was explaining the policies to us when we picked up the car. He spoke quickly and when we asked clarifying questions his answers were not clear. He seemed to not know how we would get to the terminal if we arrived after 8 pm.

I was offered an upgrade, which I accepted. Unfortunately, the upgrade changed my drop off location. My original reservation was cancelled. It cost me $140 extra for the very same vehicle.When I dropped off the vehicle, there was a long line. The employee took my keys and said he would mail a receipt. I still have not received one.

The agent first could not get my reservation then we’re u pick up car is so dark and the agent and I did not see the driver side front bumper had big gap to the side of front bumper. I did not get in to accident or got hit or hit on that side the bumper would be hanging or damaged there was none of that. Next time not going to be trust worthy I’m going to take pics and video and close examine.

Pick-up went perfect, everyone super friendly and helpful, got in and out quickly.Airport drop-off at ACV was unclear how to leave vehicle after hours. 11am and nobody was there to receive the vehicle after Eureka office told me I could leave it there. There was a key drop where I left it, noted date/time/mileage, but beyond that it wasn't clear if it was OK to leave it.

Efficient process for pick-up.Car stank of cigarette smoke at pick-up, a deep cleaning would have been nice. Guy was a bit cold and rude about wanting me to put a mask on. On check-in, I identified a few scratches on the car and the guy confined they were in the system. On check out, the same guy said those scratches weren’t in the system and made me fill out reports. Got the impression I was being taken for a ride.

Poorly trained staff, tried to upsell insurance even though I’d already purchased some insurance on kayak site (agent told me that was worthless). At checkout they tried to charge me $660 for $330 quoted charge. Took a half hour to get “preferred customer” counter to reinstate quoted price.CHECK YOUR FINAL RECEIPT BEFORE LEAVING LOT. The line at SFO was 45-120 minutes long! This is totally unacceptable for someone with a prepaid reservation. What a horrible experience. I got a good price on a car from Hertz and was in/out in 10 minutes even though I didn’t have a reservation. Don’t book with kayak don’t book with budget.

I arrived at Oakland airport and was under the impression a shuttle would take us to pick up and they don’t go to San Francisco . I asked if there was a way to change registration to Oakland pick up and get a similar car and the attendants were rude . I tried calling budget and cancelling rental and I was told I could not that I needed to call Priceline??

Car didn't die. Friendly person when dropping it off.Car made loud noise while idling. Called customer service who offered no assistance except the option to drive it back an hour each way to exchange and expressed no empathy for the inconvenience, after waiting to speak with someone for 40 minutes. Also the signs at the airport directed Fastbreak members to go to a different floor, only to get there and find that desk closed. No way to avoid the long line, defeating the point of Fastbreak.

No COVID-19 safety precautions enforced or recognized at pick-up location. Terribly slow pick-up (took over 1hr). Receipt was not provided on drop-off. Price was good. Vehicle provided was what had been promised. Overall just an unfortunate experience made even more difficult due to COVID. Overall experience will lead me to seek alternative options next time I require a rental.

Prepaid a non-refundable reservation in May, would have been half the price had I waited until a few days before the reservation date in September. The line at the pick-up desk was about 15 customers when I arrived at 10 AM on a Saturday. There were only 2 windows open and it took over 50 minutes to get checked in. The vehicle was great and the return process was painless and efficient.

I had an issue with the car, which wouldn't start (it wasn't just the battery -- a jump start only helped a bit). I spent an hour the night it happened on hold with roadside assistance and eventually got some very kind strangers to help with the jumpstart instead. The next day I spent four hours trying to reach them, starting early in the morning, getting continually put on hold and hung up on. I ran out of time and had to leave the car and take an Uber to the airport (which cost me $56 I shouldn't have had to spend, and which they didn't offer to reimburse) and it was very frustrating trying to get clear instructions on how to handle this. Even now, I'm not certain everything is okay, though I strain to think of any way in which I could have tried harder or more assiduously. It made for an awful last morning of my vacation and was extremely frustrating. I can't get the hold music out of my head either, now, having listened to it, without exaggeration, for HOURS.

The line at SFO airport was over 2 hours to pick up the car. Upon drop-off there was nobody to review the car and to give me a receipt. Until 12 hours after car return I did not still receive a receipt. I would choose this company again only if the price difference makes sense.

Waited 2 hours to pick up vehicle, counter staff was ridiculously slow and moved like turtles. Never in my life have I had to wait for 2 hours in a line to pick up a rental car. then on top of it, the counter person was rude, did not explain about the toll charges clearly and just very unprofessional. Will never use Dollar Rent a Car again.

Line at counter was >45mins. To add insult to injury, folks were being told that the car they reserved was not available and they needed to wait another 45mins. Upon seeing this pattern, I booked a car at another company that had vehicles on my phone and got out of line. I was not going to make my wife and 9 mo. old baby sit in a crowded rental car center for an hour plus when we had 2 hour drive already ahead of us.

The line was HUGE. There weren't enough people working to handle the volume of people there. After waiting an hour in line, my husband was told that the car we reserved wasn't actually available unless we wanted to wait an additional hour. (I reserved the pick up for 2:00 pm, and this was already 4:00 pm by the time he got up to the counter.) They charged us an extra $80/day for renting a minivan instead, because it was the only thing available at the time he reached the counter. We were traveling with three small children who had been sitting on a plane already, then had to wait even longer to get a rental car. This was pretty unacceptable to me and I was really disappointed in the whole experience.

The rental car was in good condition and the airport shuttle was fast.There is no way to drop off a car after hours and they do not explain or advertise this. No key dropbox or anything. The parking lot is locked and inaccessible between 10:30pm and 6am. Also, the phone numbers inside the rental agreement with Payless written clearly on the front direct you to the Budget renal company, who can't help you at all.

The rental spot is NOT at the airport (unlike what was advertised) but they still charge airport fees (around $20). I was hung up on twice trying to get “courtesy” shuttle. Long lines—should have cancelled and rented from one of the actual airport rentals spots. Will not be renting from them again.

Car was dirty, dented, and overdue for an oil change.Was hard to see in the dark garage, but once you got into the sunlight you could see a few dents, and also how dirty the car was. Then, a few miles in the car started saying it was overdue for an oil change, that makes me wonder how well they check these cars over when it's already OVERdue! Not too thrilled about it.

Don't buy insurance through kayakI bought the insurance through kayak when I requested the rental car and then at pick up the national person tried to get me to buy more insurance because the insurance I got wasn't valid. Everyone tries to rip you off.

Incorrect informationMy husband booked my car in advance online. When I arrived at the pickup at SFO, the agent took three times as long as the agents around her. In addition, she claimed the cost was going to be $170+ when we booked for a rate of $70. I brought this to her attention, but she claimed fees and taxes brought the cost up. She also said the car had to be returned that day by 6:00. We later discovered we could not return the car that day and that we would only be charged $90. Totally unnecessary worry thanks to an impatient and incorrect agent.

the car was fine, the rental experience was less tthe car was clean and the price was decentthe customer service, particularly at check in, was sadly lacking. I was in line for an agent when an employee told several of us to step out of line to use the kiosks. Since I had a reservation, I assumed this would be an automated process, so it made sense. But no, it was just a video conference line to other agents, who did not answer. So, we stood at the kiosks for 20 minutes, waiting while the people who had stayed in line got served. Not one of us at the kiosk even got a response. Finally, we went back into line- the back of the line- which by now was considerably longer. An agent spent a further 20 minutes fooling with the kiosks, instead of getting behind a desk to help the now stacked up customers. when we got to the desk- it took an inordinate amount of time, especially given that I had a reservation. I wanted to add a driver. The agent told us that the second driver would have to sign up at the exit gate (not true) - no one said anything about tolls, so when we crossed the bay bridge we were left wondering if we should pay cash, or the rental car would be charged.... directions to the car in the garage were abysmal- which I know sounds petty, but when your 71/2 months pregnant and schlepping luggage just makes a poor impression worse. returning it was easy enough, we'll see what happens with tolls. It was nothing catastrophic, but overall, it just left a bad enough taste that i'll try another agency for my next trip.

The car.The staff of SFO hertz led by the leader of the worst, the supervisor (name tag not worn) Shirley. I can imagine why she wouldn't wear a name tag because it makes it easier to identify her. She was dismissive, rude, condescending and unhelpful. Which is why her staff was busier taking to themselves than helping people. And when they do help people, they're a lot like Shirley. Bad. Very bad.

Stranded at 1 a.m.I didn't appreciate the Hertz company policy that allows you to reserve a car with a debit card only to be denied that car when you arrive with that card, a pre-paid credit card, and plenty of cash. The Hertz company should not allow you to reserve a vehicle with a formore of payment they won't accept. I am very displeased and will ensure that none of my family or friends will ever use this rental company. I will do everything in my power to vilify them to the fullest extent.Customer service was laughable, how can you have an office full of people at 1 in the morning when your only job is to look up a name, accept payment and tell them "the keys are in it, just go pick one." Ridiculous.

Overall nice vehicleThe facility to drop off at Mather Field office is only open 12:30 to 4:30 Your website fails to mention there is someone to take the key(s) and drop off the vehicle. I waited till 11:30. I could have dropped off several hours earlier. Still convenient and I'll know better later, but the frustration level can be high. NOTE I called and got someone from India and repeated the same as I read off your website. Knew I was going nowhere fast.

Communication. My rental was scheduled for 3pm pickup and I called at 2pm to see if I could pickup early but the lady that answered the phone said no it won’t be ready until 3pm. I get there at 3pm and she’s tells me she don’t have a van available for me and that she might have 1 the next day. Other company’s try and figure that stuff out before the pickup. Also they call if they think they might have a problem not wait til the costumer gets there and then tell them they have to Van available. And then I had to ask if I can get the minivan at least cause it’s there. They when we said we called at 2pm to confirm and talked to her she said No that wasn't me not sure who it was you spoke to.

Nothing - the van that was given to us was very old and had a mechanical issue ( Engine shakes and driving wheel shakes on turns) the car started showing this issue 2 hours into our drive to tahoe. I called the office and inquired if I can go to the nearest rental and swap vans for the safety of my family. The customer service was very unprofessional and couldn't find me any solution other than dropping the van at a different location without getting a new van and in top of all of that getting charged $100 for dropping the van at a different location.Please don't ever get a van from there. It's for your and your family's safety.

They did not have correct van when we arrived, charged 300 more, and van we did get smelled like urine. We will never use them again!

There was no USB charging port in the minivan. We got it basically with no gas and they wouldn’t give us any gas credit as we returned it with more gas. When I dropped it off, there was no return airport shuttle and I had to take a Lyft which took a long time. DEFINITELY spend a couple extra bucks and use the main rental companies.

The van worked as expected, pickup was easy.No one was at the site at the time I was supposed to drop of the van. There was someone at the back of the building cleaning vans and he said his boss told him if I customer came in he could take the keys. He also told me it would be able 30 min before someone came back. I couldn’t wait 30 min, so I left the keys with him. I also called and left a message to the number provided saying I was dropping the van off. A day later I received a receipt for that was $110 more than what I was quoted for the vehicle. I was charged extra for cleaning despite the fact that I vacuumed the van before bringing it back it. I’ve tried calling several times and left messages to despite the charge and not one ever answers and no has has called me back. I would definitely not recommend this company for rentals.

Read alot of the reviews and was hesitant to rent from here, however had a surprisingly fantastic experience. The young lady at the counter was phenomenal in walking me through the rental process and did not make me feel unwelcome after I kept asking questions. The young lady was generous enough to loan me a stool to help with my mother to get in/out of the car at no charge. Additionally there was a fine young gentlemen upon returning the vehicle who was kind enough to drop me back to the airport terminal, he was a pleasure to speak with.Upon arriving at their designated spot for shuttle pickup after disembarking from the air train, I attempted to call the rental company from the provided shuttle phone to no avail. I had to call three times in order to get someone on the phone, but once I did they were extremely nice in arranging pickup.

Car was cleanI scheduled a 9 AM pickup, but didn't drive away until 11 AM. The office was way under staffed for the volume that day. On the shuttle back to the airport after drop off, the driver was pulled over for running a flashing red light.

Terrible pick-up. I should've wait for the car for 3 hours. They said to me 'No way, Just wait or find other rental'. I ruined my day. I will never use the rental car company and KAYAK.com rental car reservation again. And I also it should be known by everyone who want rent a car in SFO.

The car worked, and clearly the employees tryThe employees were kind, resourceful and worked hard. The car started, stopped and turned as expected.The location stinks-be sure to plan on the time it takes to get there from SFO. The building is hot and dour-I feel for the employees! The car was not clean. I would pay extra to get a car at the SFO rental center next time.

Poor shuttle pick up from airportIt should be clearly noted on the vendor website that this is an OFF SITE airport pick up. We waited 30 minutes for a shuttle pick up that fits 6 person max in a poorly maintained van. Additional customers were left behind for another 30 minutes for later pickup. The EZ rental car in other airport locations outside of San Francisco were unlike this branch in its service, location and overall appeal. We were deeply disappointed with our rental service at the San Francisco EZ Rental car. We would rather pay a bit more for a more convenient airport location and more piedessional service the next time we're in San Francisco.

A comfortable late model carThe pickup drop off required almost 2 hours since the location is another 5-8 miles from where other rental car companies are located. And once at facility there are only 2 agents who take care of a long line. They push upgrades like the tolls for the bridge without explaining alternatives. You can pay cash everywhere and do online payment for Golden Gate Bridge. So avoid the prepayment if you are not crossing the bridge several times a day.

Didn't have the car we reservedThey tried to make it right, they offered us a vehicle that would seat all 6 of us, but the cargo capacity was not sufficient. They were friendly, but in the end that's not helping us get on the road.Reserved a minivan and it was not available. We were not notified so we spent a couple extra hours getting to another rental place. Their location was pretty far from the airport. I am sure this saves them overhead, but the shuttle ride ate into the whole ordeal.

Worst car company in the world!The car was cheaper than anywhere else. Now I know why. I got a car with almost 50k miles on the clock, it was a wreck and was filthy. I hired my car for 3 weeks, so when I went back and asked for another one, it was refused. The worst thing if all was that the windshield had never been throughly cleaned, nor the wipers ever replaced, so everything it rained, I was blind driving! I tried to replace the wipers, but no Autoshop carried them. I had to throughly clean the windshield and wipers daily as there were several snow storms and I couldn't drive blind. I bought rain x to help me, but this car was dangerous. Also, the engine made rattling noises like it was running on no oil, and the gearbox had a mind of its own. To add insult to injury, when I went to return the car, there guys had moved yards! No effort to tell me when I picked up the rental, nor to phone or email. I was gobsmacked! Never, never rent from here, this is known as Ez rent a car, Advantage rent a car and Europcar. Walking is a better option!

Overall it was goodService was good and car was clean. The only thing i did not like about this place is the milage limit policy they have in place for local residents. The limit is 150 miles per day. I only needed it to go to and from work while my car was in the shop so it wasnt a big deal but now i know not to rent here for my next so cal trip.

Friendly, helpful staff, and efficient pickup and dropoff to and from the SFO rental car center. The Quattro was lots of fun to drive, with comfortable seats and great controls for comprehensive panels.I wasn't able to download the app (I'd changed my iTunes password and hadn't needed it on the phone for several months), and the website interface for a mobile device was sometimes not as intuitive as it could be.

Easiest car rental experience ever.Rented in San Francisco ... They texted to check in with me day before arrival and day of departure to ask questions and give me info I needed. I just texted back info ... they couldn’t have been more helpful or seamless. I wish we could use them in Denver, but the prices were too high for the weeks we need it!

On the return flight it was efficient. The pickup, however, was a joke. I so wish I had gotten this guys name behind the counter. There were 6+ people waiting and two at the counter. I asked if there were others who could help because the two employees were taking their time visiting while we were all standing in line. I say visiting because they were chatting about their nails etc. The pick up from the airport took 30 minutes for anyone to get us and another 30 minutes to get to the pick up location. So standing there watching useless rhetoric wasn’t helping. After I asked if there was someone else that could help, the employees just looked at me and never said a word. Then The man said to me “Avis has a three hour wait at the airport, this is nothing.“ I said that doesn’t excuse not having enough help here. Then another gentleman came up to the counter to work, and the first employee tells the gentleman to slow down and take his time with the next person in line because I had complained, and then they both looked at me. I knew exactly what they said and I told him I did. He just kind of shrugged. The gentleman that we eventually got was very kind and efficient. But the first employee was definitely making sure that he didn’t get us as his client. The whole experience from the airport to the pick up location was awful. We couldn’t call for pickup because the answering machine was full. I won’t do this again.

The Staff was Very Professional Patient and just overall cool. They Gave me Great Prices when I had to extend my Rental.The Deposit should be Only $200 for any Car or Truck as Long As your Card is on File.

The staff was helpful, that being said I just received a claim form Las Vegas where I dropped of the car that I had damaged the car many weeks after returning it. I returned it in the same condition as when I rented it. I wouldn't recommend them because they seem to be poorly organized. The audacity to attempt to get me to pay for a windshield is astounding.Again the staff was fine, the returning of the car seemed to be very easy - That being said when returning the car the staff member just asked me to hand over the keys without doing a post vehicle check. If there is in fact damage to the windshield it would have to have happened after I drove it and I can not be held responsible.

Upon getting the car. The attendant provided very limited help. They literally handed me the key and let me know where the car was located in the parking lot. I was very disappointed that they did not at least show me the basic features of this car in terms of adjusting mirrors etc. etc. Since this car had an unusual gear shiftter With previous experience of renting cars someone would at least sit down with you for five minutes to go over the operation of that specific vehicle

Staff very helpful upon check-in.Umm....tank was full when we returned - I had topped it off. Sixt said/ 7/8 full - not worth arguing about but annoying. It was self check-out because after 7:00 pm on a Sunday night so wasn't there when gas was read.

Had a great selection of cars. Was able to upgrade to a larger vehicle when the size of the party changed.Really difficult to get a real person on the phone. I thought I left something behind. Must have called a dozen times and was either disconnected or leave voicemail.

There was no one available at the desk at my selected car rental time. My airport was SFO and they were gone by 7pm. I could not get a car and had prepaid for the rental. I ended up eating the cost and renting a car at a different company. What a joke.

I was charged lot more than what I paid on kayak. Booking on kayak said price includes everything. But Rental agency charged me almost $70 more. I am not happy and will never use kayak again or this car rental place.

They only had Van's when I requested a SUV 3 weeks in advance. It was very late to get another car on different company. Why ACE didn't communicate me that? Then I lost half of day to get the SUV next day. I'm very disappointed how ACE managed my booking for my family vacation time.

NothingWhen we arrived to the facility they didn't have any rentals for us. There were 2 other couples there with the same issue. The guy at the front counter said this is how it is and told us we had to wait. He also said he had no idea how long the wait would be. This has to be the worst experience I've ever had.

Ok....The car gave no issues.The cars are outdated. And high mileage. 60,000+. They charge u $25 extra on top of whatever they decide is the daily amount for the car your renting if you go over a day... so be prepared. It's not the amount u get quoted for the rest of your trip. So if u go over be prepared to get slammed. I got lucky the daily rate was only like 15 to 20 over my rate.. but imagine keeping car extra day and having to pay 100+ for just one day if your rate was $40 a day...

Wow big vanEmployees were very helpfulI rented an 8 person van. It turned out to be a 15 person van with a few benches removed. It was too long for us to use in Mill Valley. We returned it and rented a smaller vehicle. Pick up at SFO did not go well. They rent 15 person vehicles but sent a vehicle that could only pick up 7 people. Ace is off site and takes awhile to get to it. Not a good situation.

Great car at great price, but huge hassle/wait atCar was very clean and comfortable, price was excellent.Took forever to get from airport to pickup, had to call multiple times. When shuttle finally arrived, it didn't have enough seats. Took 45 minutes to pick up car, at least 30 to drop off.

Decent Bang for the Buck$100 less than other rentals. We rented for 4 days. Friendly service. Minivan was clean & new, but entry level model. Side windows did not roll down.Offices were shabby and further from airport than the car rental center, which is already at a remove from terminals. Shuttle arrived quickly, but instructions to call for pickup weren't immediately obvious at time of rental.
