Beware of Sixt in general, but particularly the one in Zagreb. While SIXT has reported record profits, you will find out how they are making all that money when you visit a center to pick up the car that you booked online, and are forcefully coerced into buying insurance and protections that you don’t need.

Both pick up and drop off was difficult with this company. My husband was the only driver, but they made us pay for an extra driver since I, his wife, had rented car on-line. The agent wasn’t friendly. Then when we went to drop off the car, no one was at the office, and the phone number listed on the door was wrong. We Finally found someone to leave the key with at the hotel. They told us that the cost for the car was very high. We will never rent with this company again.

Everything was excellent with the pick up in downtown Zebreg. The drop off at the hotel Rixos in Dubrovnik was a little unclear. The Sixt desk was closed at noon, so as instructed on the app, left the keys and paperwork with the front desk at the hotel. Not sure how or when my deposit will be refunded.

Car was clean and in good condition. Gas was low so needed to fill directly. Waited nearly 2 hours from when the car was supposed to be ready for pickup which directly changed plans and accommodations for the day. After that, all went well. Nobody to receive the car but convenient ability to drop off keys at the hotel was a smooth transition.

I picked the Enterprise at Zagreb airport because I wanted to work with an American (at least affiliated) company and I want a VW Golf. I was offered an Opel Astra. When I asked if a VW Golf was available, I was told that the agency did not even have a Golf. I understand that when rental cars are listed they always say "or similar", but you should be allowed to list a car as a comparable if you don't have one in your fleet. They should have listed "Opel Astra, Or Similar". I was also surprised to learn that insurance was an option with agent at the airport. When I made my reservation, I purchased insurance, which was through a third-party provided. The desk agent told me if I wanted to purchase insurance through them, I should have selevted "NO" during booking and then that would open the option to purchase insurance at time of vehicel pickup. That makes no sense to me. Additionally, the agent charged me a 2,400 Euro deposit since I did not purchase insurance through them. Lastly, the had over 90,000km on it and had several system failure lights that displayed after I left the lot.Lucklily the car drive fine and was clearn. Overall, I would not recommend renting from Enterprise at Zagreb airport.

It was a little confusing at pick-up as the person working the Hertz counter wasn’t there. This caused some confusion and we had to search for a number to call, but in the end he was just getting our vehicle and was running a little late. We got a bigger vehicle for the same price which was much needed as we had more bags than anticipated. The car, rest of our trip, and drop-off were fantastic. The representative explained everything ahead of time and we had no issues from then on. Thanks!

When I ordered the vehicle my confirmation said for 7 people and 6 bags and showed a picture of a van and also stated VAN in the description. When we arrived it turned out to be a standard SUV not a van as stated and we had to pay an additional cost to get a van so we could accommodate our family of 6 which included an elderly person. They were friendly and did try to accommodate us but I was disappointed that the special rate offered for the van was not honoured and I had to pay an additional $500 euros.

Pros:

The volkswagon golf was clean and drove without issue except low tire pressure on all 4 tires and the low windshield washer fluid was continually beeping.

Better hours for early flights. We paid for 7 days of of rental but had a 6:45 am departure flight on the seventh day and was told no one would be on premise without incurring an additional fee. We then agreed to drop off the car early on 6th day and were harassed to return the car early.

The pick up and drop off are a little slow. You go to the office, then around the corner to the parking garage. One of the tires looked under inflated, so we had them too it off. That took 20 minutes. We got a snack at PanPek while we waited. Those were the only blemishes on an otherwise great engagement. The car was nice, and the staff were even nicer. I would use Oryx again.

The car was in fine condition. No complaints there. Routes car rental doesn't have a clearly marked desk at the airport. Instead, I had to call a number and they directed me to talk to the folks at the desk of OK Mobility. They had no idea about this rental. I had them call the Routes number again to talk to the fellow there. He said the magic words to them, and they figured it out and I got my car. But this would have been a disaster if I hadn't just gotten my Croatian SIM card just then. Additionally, they did a hard upsell to get me to buy their full protection plan. Not sure that was worth it exactly, but a couple hundred euros later and at least the pick-up process was over and we had our car.

Everything was great in general. No one in the airport had heard of ROUTES so we just called the phone number and they sent a van to get us immediately. Took 15 minutes and then another 15 to get to the car. Very nice people. Nice car. Easy process. Saved some money renting from offsite rental company.

Car interior was dirty . Very low on gas. Couldn't exit the rental area. Had scratches on the body that were hard to detect. Charged me tons of money for a minor scratch on the bottom of the bumper which was an area that I wouldn't have thought to check at the time of rental. It may or may not have been there. Good morning, My flight was canceled so I was not able to arrive at the pick up time. I looked for a phone number for ADDCAR and there was not one online or in your confirmation email. I looked for a way to contact Kayak but there was nothing available so I lost this rental reservation. Can you refund me for this reservation? Thank you for your help.

Passenger van

I booked a Renault Kangoo minivan for 4 passengers and 4 suitcases via Kayak. When i called them, Thrifty told me that they have received in their instruction a “small automatic car”. I cannot figure out if Kayak messed up or Thrifty. But i ultimately had to pay up 30% more for a small minivan (Opel Zafira) from Thrifty with 130k miles and underpowered. I am NEvER going to rent cars thru’ Kayak again. They also told me that they do NOT even rent out Renault Kangoo, so they have no idea why Kayak will show that car to me online available to book. Either somebody is lying or something is seriously wrong in the tech interface between Kayak and Thrifty
