Pros: The B&B owner and family, who live in a part of the building, have remodelled beautifully a building dating to the 1840s. The rooms are basically new apartments, and much nicer and roomier than local hotel rooms. They prepare a hearty Dutch breakfast every morning at the convenience of the guests. Perhaps equally important, Mr. Van der Schenk takes great efforts to ensure the guests' stay is fun and fulfilling. In my case, he looked up the bus schedule to ensure I could arrive on time at my academic conference in the neighboring town. With his previous background in the hospitality industry, Mr. Van der Schenk understands how to make guests feel at home.
Located in the countryside, this B&B Mariafarm offers bicycle rental, as well as rooms with a private bathroom. The centre of Breda is 18 minutes by car, and national park De Biesbosch 11 km away. Each individually decorated room has a seating area and most of them offer king-size bedding. Some have a flat-screen TV or small kitchenette.
