The seaside community of Juan Dolio is located in the province of San Pedro de Macoris on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic. With less than 2,500 inhabitants, the small but vibrant former fishing village stretches over 7 kilometres of idyllic Caribbean coastland. While there are wide pastures, forests, and sugar cane fields to the north and east of the village, the western part of the resort connects seamlessly with the town of Guayacanes.
Like in all tropical Caribbean islands, holidays in Juan Dolio will be blessed with perfect weather, as temperatures hover around 27°C most of the year. Thanks to its pristine, publicly accessible main beach, the Playa Juan Dolio, holidaymakers can relax and soak up the sun from the moment they arrive. Conveniently, the nearby Las Americas International Airport makes arrival relatively easy. Likewise, for visitors already on the island of Hispaniola, Juan Dolio and its coconut palms and turquoise waters are easily accessible by car.
Juan Dolio is a laid-back beach town, and the village’s central feature is the sandy Juan Dolio Beach. Praised for its clean water and fewer crowds than its neighbour Boca Chica, the beach provides a perfect escape from the bustle of day-to-day life. If beaches are not your cup of tea, you can spend the day playing golf at the nearby Los Marlins Golf Course or riding horses at Crazy Horse Ranch. And for an evening of high adrenaline, the local Dream Casino is the place to be.
Near this stretch of Dominican coast, holidaymakers can marvel at the Cuevas de las Maravillas (Cave of Wonders), a series of caves featuring indigenous Taino paintings. Visitors can also explore San Pedro de Macorís, the Dominican Republic's third largest city, which is known for its central park and 'Pastelones (de Platano) en hojas', traditional snacks in banana leaves.
