Holidays in Hong Kong

Located just off China’s south coast, the island of Hong Kong is one of the world’s great ‘east-meets-west’ destinations. As a former colony of the British Empire, Hong Kong is imbued with a western flavour that is quite unique in China. Indeed, everything from street names and building styles to public parks and driving habits (Hong Kong drivers drive on the left) all have an air of Britain about them.

Hong Kong holidays: Getting there and getting around

There is never a bad time to visit Hong Kong, as the island’s sub-tropical climate ensures hot summers and mild winters are very much the norm. Getting to this part of the world is easy, too, as many airlines provide frequent (and often very affordable) flights to Hong Kong’s efficient Chek Lap Kok airport. Getting around within Hong Kong is also easy, as the island’s transportation network is easily one of the finest in the world. This is, of course, great news for international travellers as the last thing anyone wants after a 12 hour flight is to be left standing around waiting for delayed buses or late trains.

Holidays in Hong Kong: What to see and do

Hong Kong has one of the most famous skylines in the world. This stunning vista is easy to savour, as ferry trips across the harbour to the peninsula of Kowloon afford jaw-dropping views, while trips up to the island’s highest point (Victoria Peak) allow you to admire the gleaming skyscrapers from above. But sightseeing is not all there is to holidays in Hong Kong. Just walking around and soaking up the charm of Times Square, Wanchai, and Causeway Bay is a highly rewarding activity in itself. Wandering the friendly, buzzing streets of this safe, clean city is a real treat, and the energy generated by its ever-busy citizens and constantly flickering neon signs is wonderfully infectious.
