Where is hot in February: long-haul destinations

There are many incredible hot countries to visit in February, especially if you are prepared to fly for a few hours. Here are my top picks – from tropical escapes to culture-packed city breaks.

1. Dubai, United Arab Emirates

  • Average February temperature: 19°C

Where is the nicest weather in February? February is an ideal time to visit Dubai for warm weather and plenty of outdoor activities, rest and relaxation. My top picks for things to do include poolside relaxation, holistic spa retreats, fun in the many water parks and world-class shopping.

It’s also well worth booking a night or two out in the desert. Camp beneath the stars and enjoy epic excursions like dune bashing, sand surfing and sunrise hot air balloon rides. If you’re in the market for a luxurious winter break, you won’t find many places better than Dubai.

2. Sydney, Australia

The iconic Bondi Beach, with its rolling waves, is beautifully complemented by a crystal-clear swimming pool nestled along the shore.

  • Average February temperature: 22°C

Australia is well known for its hot climate and in February, Australia enjoys a hot summer. Sydney is an ideal destination for a very relaxing, very warm break in the Southern Hemisphere. You can expect daily highs of around 26°C, with nights cooling to a comfortable 18°C.

Don’t skip soaking up some sun on the city’s beaches such as the iconic Bondi Beach. Sydney Harbour is also well worth a wander, while animal lovers will adore spotting koalas and kangaroos in local wildlife parks.

As summer is Sydney’s peak tourist season, flights can be expensive with KAYAK data showing an average flight price of £998. But if you’re looking for somewhere with some incredible weather to escape winter, you’re pretty much guaranteed fun in the sun in Sydney.

3. Honolulu, USA

  • Average February temperature: 23°C

Hawaii is a tropical paradise teeming with life and beautiful warm weather. If you’re wondering where is hot in February, Honolulu is the place for you, with daily temperatures reaching into the high 20s.

Hawaii’s capital sits on the island of Oahu and has plenty to do on a February holiday. Relax on beautiful white sandy beaches like Waikiki Beach or Sandy Beach. Take a boat out for the day and snorkel alongside turtles. Or spot dolphins on a sightseeing cruise.

There are so many incredible activities to look forward to in Hawaii, the main one being basking under a hot sun and forgetting its winter back home! February is also a prime time for hitting Oahu’s hiking trails, my favourites are the lush Watershed Forest Reserve and the breathtaking Diamond Head Crater Trailhead.

4. Da Nang, Vietnam

Castles in an ancient village crowned on the top of a hill.
  • Average February temperature: 22°C

Make 2025 the year you finally visit Vietnam. February is a great time to visit as it’s one of the country’s driest months – especially in places like Da Nang in central Vietnam. The daily air temperatures are hot in February, too. And by hot, I mean pleasantly in the mid to low 20s (plus the occasional heatwave).

Dry, sunny weather means you can expect to spend long days on Da Nang’s sweeping golden sand beach. Relax on a sun chair at one of several beach clubs or hit the water with a surf lesson.

The city is also the starting point for incredible day trips. Venture less than an hour south to charming Hoi An, famed for its silk lanterns. Or arrange a private tour to Ba Na Hills – a theme park in the Trường Sơn Mountains that’s home to the iconic Golden Bridge.

5. Phuket, Thailand

  • Average February temperature: 27°C

Last, but certainly not least, on my list of long-haul destinations to visit in February is Thailand. You can visit Phuket year-round and it is a well-established safe haven for those wanting winter sun with daily temperatures reaching 32°C.

Phuket has some of the best beaches in Thailand and is a popular month for full-moon parties. You might notice the demand for flights is higher as a result, but don’t let that put you off.

Foodies will rejoice as Thailand is a culinary paradise. In fact, it’s worth visiting for the food alone. Along with the island’s incredible natural beauty and balmy weather, a February trip to Phuket is a no-brainer.

6. New Zealand

  • Average February temperature: 15 – 20°C

New Zealand is in summer mode in February, making it an ideal time to visit if you’re looking for warm weather and long days outdoors. Auckland offers easy-going city life with harbourside walks, nearby beaches and a growing food scene.

Further south, Queenstown is great for hiking, lake trips and scenic drives framed by the Southern Alps. Temperatures typically sit in the low 20s, comfortable for both city exploring and outdoor activities – with Auckland being the slightly warmer pick.

7. Marrakech, Morocco

  • Average February temperature: 13°C

Bustling souks, beautiful mosques and balmy temperatures that sometimes tip above 19°C? Marrakech has so much appeal for those planning a warm February holiday.

You’ll want to spend a good chunk of your time in the city’s historic medina. Having cooler climes will make this much more pleasant – especially if you’re keen to barter for bargains in the city’s busy markets. Other brilliant activity options include taking a tour of the gloriously ornate Bahia Palace or enjoying a moment of calm in the small but lush Le Jardin Secret.

Evenings can still be a little cool in February, so make sure you pack some light layers. You probably won’t need an umbrella, though. The city typically gets just 30mm of rainfall throughout the month.

8. Tampa, Florida, US

A picturesque landscape unfolds, revealing a pristine white sand shore adorned with scattered individuals along with blue sun loungers and parasols, surrounded by the mesmerizing turquoise sea.
  • Average February temperature: 17°C

Tampa is a reliable pick for warm February weather, with high temps of 23°C and plenty of sunshine. Its Gulf Coast setting means calm beaches nearby, including Clearwater and St. Pete, both easy day trips for swimming or relaxed coastal walks. In the city, you’ll find a mix of museums, waterfront parks and family-friendly spots like the Riverwalk.

The food scene leans casual, with Cuban sandwiches, seafood and local breweries all worth trying. January offers some good flight deals too, with KAYAK data showing an average return flight costing around £473.

9. Montego Bay, Jamaica

  • Average February temperature: 25°C

If you are up for a long-haul flight, Montego Bay is a strong option in February. With temperatures around 25°C, it’s an ideal month to explore the destination’s famous white sand beaches.

The resort-lined shoreline offers plenty of choice, from quieter stretches of sand to larger hotels with pools and on-site dining. Outside the resorts, you’ll find markets, jerk stands and scenic spots like Doctor’s Cave Beach. Direct flights from London make the trip straightforward.

Flight prices, hotel prices, and precipitation constitute inverse factors, meaning the lower the better. All factors are equally weighted.

From the ranked destination lists, destination exclusions may have been applied in cases of insufficient data or according to the official travel advisory at the time when the data analysis was conducted.

Monthly average temperature and precipitation data are based on historical insights from the past 102 years. Weatherbase data is updated in real-time from the US Census Bureau and other databases worldwide.
