Pros: Staff were incredibly warm, welcoming and very helpful. The guides were fantastic and their knowledge of the wildlife, astrology, biology, geology and the national park was outstanding. Incredible views from the Manor House that cannot be found elsewhere.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Gorah offerred us comfortable accomodation in high-end tents in the middle of the wilderness without a protective fence between us and animals on the way to the waterhole. An very competent and trust-inspiring staff member welcomed us and explained how Gorah "works" including the risks and how to handle them (Thanks, Travis!). We then went on an afternoon game drive with a highly knowledgeable and professional Ranger (Lesley!). This turned out to be our best game drive of our lives so far! Gorah is seamlessly embedded into Addo park. At 1600 square kilometers the park is big enough to not make you feel like in a zoo while being densely populated with an amazing range of wildlife to keep you in awe.
Cons: Accomodation is pricey but worth every cent in hindsight. My family urged me to stay several nights longer in the end... There's also a wonderful pool area that many visitors (including ourselves) don't seem to be aware of.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Unique situation inside the Parc, very luxurious accommodation, friendly staff, very helpful, recommended alternative road trip via the Karoo back to Cape Town, which was amazing.

Scheduled game drives and meal schedule work very well. Pool terrific.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Visit this beautiful place if you can. Staff, food and views are just amazing. We stayed in s King Suite with a beautiful view. Breakfast and dinner are so delicious. They organize Game Drives with their own rangers, which was a great experience too and very well organized. Thanks a lot, we enjoyed very much.
Cons: There are only minor things that still could be improved such as a more comfortable seating place on the own terrace, better temperature regulation of the showers or somewhat clearer water of the pool.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing views, quality of food and accommodation, the location (being off the beaten track), the friendly staff, the natural Andreassen contact with other guests.

Pros: Kaila the godess of the kitchen! She provided absolutely excellent dinner, Best meat ever For us everthing was perfect, the cottages, food, Trip to ADDO, the guys of the lodge
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in Fish Eagle cottage which was lovely and very private and came complete with its own group of monkeys which was very entertaining. It has direct access to the river and there is a canoe to use should you wish. The river is safe for both swimming and canoeing. The accommodation is spacious, very comfortable and fully equipped, it has a nice large bathroom with both bath and shower. The breakfast is plentiful, varied and delicious. We also had dinner there on both nights we stayed and can recommend them, great food really well presented. They also coped admirably well with the load shedding that happened on the stroke of dinner time, very well done to the chef!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was absolutely perfect. We loved it. If you search for a quiet, comfortable and very welcoming place... book it. And if you stay there... book the safari and the dinner!!! Thanks to the family and all the staff, we wished we could have stayed longer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Especially lodge number 5 with private hot tub and sun loungers in the garden. Interior design stunning, kayaks for every lodge on own private jetty at bottom of garden to explore/watch the stunning birds. Breakfast and Dinner were lovely - and they catered well for my gluten free diet. It really is in a perfect location- away from it all, best place to relax and enjoy!
Cons: Nothing to dislike!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The safari tent is great, with the deck over the river - secluded and peaceful. Staff friendly and attentive. Breakfast and evening dinners were very good. The guided day drive of Addo Elephant NP was great too.
Cons: Wifi was patchy in the safari tent, but fine at the main house. Very minor point though - hardly an issue.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Lodge is located by the Sunday’s River - a true ‘Bush Location’ with river views from the chalets and the terrace where dinner and breakfast are served. There is even a kayak and ‘private dock’ for each chalet. My chalet was spacious, very clean and had all that I required for my 5 night stay with a small kitchenette, suitable for cooking simple meals. The owner is absolutely charming. The location is safe and some 30 minutes from the main entrance to the Addo National Park, by car. I would not hesitate to stay here again if I return to the Addo area. Excellent value for money.
Cons: Leaving!! And - just an observation, nothing more - there were no shelves in the refrigerator.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice rural location with lovely view over the river. Clean and quiet room (except for the odd monkey on the roof!). All the staff were lovely, best cooked breakfast on our trip and excellent 3 course evening meal. We took the guided trip to Addo Elephant Park which was a great way to see the Park.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Honestly everything was fabulous about our stay. The views across the river, the opportunity to kayak on the beautiful stretch of river and fantastic food for both dinner and breakfast. We highly recommend this lodge for at least a two night stay.
Cons: Honestly. Nothing.

Pros: Beautiful spot, helpful host and great social area with a pool. Room was very spacious and great shower
Cons: Could’ve emailed back to confirm we did get the tour we asked them to book for us, we wasn’t sure until we got there. Everything else superb
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I really liked the idea of a little restaurant on the premises with high-quality dinners. There is not much to offer with regards to food in the direct vicinity, so this was a great option for a reasonable price.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about this place surpassed our expectations! From the minute we arrived we were blown away. Russell was so helpful, kind and accommodating. You really need her there all the time, Ramone in the restaurant was just superb and a pleasure to meet, food was exquisite. Have already recommended to some friends, perfect place to stay if visiting Addo Elephant Park!
Cons: We loved everything but must admit the atmosphere changed slightly when Russell wasn't there. She was just so attentive, knew everyone's name and took time to talk to every table and especially the children that were staying there

Pros: Gerald's Git Guest House was all around perfect. The room was spacious with comfortable beds, a nice bathroom, and a nice little patio. Everything was clean and tidy. The whole site is so beautiful: it is a green garden full of nice smelling flowers, bushes and trees. Here you can watch and hear birds flying around, relax at the pool or play tennis. The staff was very welcoming and friendly and the breakfast very tasty. If you plan to visit Addo Elephant National Park, it's only 15 minutes by car. Staying here has its price but it's absolutely fair and worth the money!
Cons: Nothing to complain about

Pros: Love the view , our room was really great and the staff very friendly ! Breakfast is really good
Cons: if there is a small remark to make then I have to say there where no towels left around the pool near the bar and we couldn’t ask anybody because nobody there ! Rest not any complain at all !
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The setting in the park is both scenic and restful. Opportunity to spot grazing zebras and playful monkeys as well as birdwatching from our patio was wonderful. We were greeted upon arrival by our gracious host Wayne. Our guided game drives with Ranger Darlington simply the best! Previously, we had participated in other game drives but they cannot be compared to the enthusiasm, knowledge and insights provided by Ranger Darlington during our recent stay at River Bend. Overall, the food was well prepared and delicious. The wine service was very nice! Special mention to Temwani who offered wine recommendations and thoughtful conversation. He is engaging and an asset to the River Bend team! Moses and Sean were outstanding in the dining room, serving the stellar offerings from Chef Siya and his team in the kitchen.
Cons: Nothing at all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at River Bend!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The highlight of our stay was our 3 game drives with guide Christiaan. Our only regret was not arriving early enough on our first day to go out on the evening drive. Christiaan’s enthusiasm and knowledge of both animals and birds seemed limitless. His attention to details and his care for our comfort and safety put him in the very top league of guides I have been driven by over the past thirty years of viewing wild animals in several African countries. Very warm thanks Christiaan for making our stay unforgettable. Other staff are also wonderfully warm, friendly and helpful. We do hope we can return for a longer stay in future.
Cons: The access roadway was blocked by a large herd of elephants which we found a little unnerving. We phoned the reception who gave us advice to switch off our car engine and sit quietly in our car. After 30 minutes waiting while still surrounded by the elephants, the lodge sent out a vehicle to lead us to the lodge. Thanks for the rescue. As there is no alternative to the very good 4 course dinner each evening, it would be more up front to price the lodge at “All Inclusive” rates.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful spot, a private lodge belonging to Addo. Great safari guides. Beautiful area. Viewing the waterhole from breakfast table was extraordinary. Very friendly staff. Delicious, individually created food every night.
Cons: We were charged a 7,5% concession fee on every meal, game drive and even on the paid room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: River Bend Lodge is a gem. Overlooking it's own waterhole on a concession in the Northern part of Addo, is this wildlife haven with very limited access. On safari it is like you have the whole are to yourself. Spotted 4 of the big 5 during our two day stay but that is only part of the story. For us the thrill was seeing the more humble creatures such as tortoise, dung beetles, bat reared foxes to name a few. However the highlight for me was the birds. This is down to our ranger Christiaan. His birding knowledge is extraordinary. It also provided a welcome distraction from charging around looking for mammals. No review is complete without mentioning the staff. They were superb. Particularly, their highly commendable efforts to make Christmas lunch a very special occasion. We will always fondly remember the crackers and hats whilst eating a traditional lunch watching elephants at the waterhole. Thank you all especially Christiaan. Tea at 0430 was most appreciated.
Cons: A very minor point. Some areas of the accommodation are showing their age. However, in no way whatsoever does this prevent me from rating this lodge as exceptional.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant staff and great game drives with guide Darlington.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a wonderful stay. The game drives were exceptional. We were not new to this activity, but our guide, John, was the best I've ever encountered in SA. The food was very delicious too!

Pros: The Bush cabin is amazing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The Dung Beetle Guest Farm was perfect for our trip to Addo Elephant Park. We reached the parks entrance within a few minutes and got lots of information through our host Joe. Joe and Trinette were very kind and the hospitality was great. During our stay, we felt more as a part of the Dung Beetle Guest Farm Family than just guests. Our room was cozy and very clean, we liked it a lot. The whole Guest Farm was beautiful and welcoming. We will come back!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The farm was beautiful. Great view from our balcony. Room spacious. Outdoor shower lovely and hot. Staff were very friendly. Only ten minutes drive from addo main gate.
Cons: I’m a light sleeper - would have been great if our room (double chalet) had blackout blinds as there were a lot of lights outside which meant I didn’t sleep well. Probably individual to us tho!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a great stay! It's really close to addo elephant park. The owner is a guide so he had some great insights and tips for us. All the staff is really friendly and the rooms are one of a kind.
Cons: Nothing. They had problems with water while we were there, but that didn't affect us.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed our stay in the guest farm. The bungalows were huge, clean and beautifully furnished. I really hate living out of a suitcase because usually two suitcases just do not fit into one bedroom, but here there was still plenty of space eventhough we came with a lot of luggage. As friends we were also glad to have at least a closable door to the toilet for some privacy, which is not really often the case in south africa ;-)The hosts were amazingly nice and helpful. They do not serve dinner inhouse every day, but the hotel is really close to Addo so we even could go there for having dinner. Can absolutely recommend that accomodation and certainly will come back!
Cons: One small disadvantage is, that the wifi is not always working everywhere. But with that view you should anyway be ashamed to look into the screen instead of the beautiful nature.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Cabin in the bush / private / view
Cons: It was pouring and we got v wet walking to the loo and bathroom outside (the water pours off the roof directly onto the path). Communication was difficult due to travel, load shedding and WiFi outages.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. Lovely hosts.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome stay for exploring Addo

Pros: De Old Drift Guest Farm is set in beautiful surroundings & has excellent facilities. We only stayed 2 nights but would have loved to stay longer. The staff are friendly and go out of there way to help you with anything you need. Breakfast is amazing , so much choice & the quality is excellent. We also had dinner for the 2 nights we were there and this too was excellent. The portion sizes were incredible & we had some great wine too. I would also highly recommend booking the trip to Addo Elephant park with their guide. This made our trip & I would be sure to stay here & experience this again

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Peaceful location, excellent food and wonderful staff
Cons: Could have done with a ceiling fan in the dining/ bar area
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Set in beautiful grounds the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had dinner at the property and it was very good as was the breakfast. Only stayed one night but could have stayed longer as a perfect place to relax and unwind.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were fantastic and super friendly, including the dog who seemed to attach itself to us in the week we were there! The breakfast was excellent, fresh and well presented. We stayed a week, and had full intention of eating dinner there, but our days were long and full, so by the time we got back to our self catering cottage we just wanted to shower and crash. But I know the dinners would be excellent as they do pride themselves in their food. Location to Addo National Park was great, just a 15 minute drive. The area is peaceful and the accommodation is located within a working citrus grove with lemons galore! Which are amazing by the way! Stay here, you won't be sorry!
Cons: I fully appreciate where we were, so expectations of wifi were low anyway, but it was very poor in the cottage, it was fine in the main building so we did most of our photo downloading at breakfast.

Pros: The hotel had an amazing view over the valley and it was so peaceful. The staff made you feel extremely welcome and we wished we had stayed for an extra night. We booked the Addo Elephant park safari with the hotel and our guide Cleo was most knowledgeable and give us good insight into the animals and the plants in the park. Definitely recommend this hotel.

Pros: Very nice room in a rondavel, very good dinner and breakfast. The surronding area was great.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent in all regards . The staff were superb . A delightful place to stay
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely spacious room and terrace overlooking the beautiful gardens - someone has some seriously green fingers, the gardens are mature and beautifully planted. Super-comfortable bed and yummy bed linen. Unfortunately the weather was not good to us while we were there, so we didn't have the opportunity to use the pool, which was a shame, as it looked very inviting. Everyone was helpful, we loved the dogs and Rusty the cat (who is clearly omnipotent - she seemed to emerge in every chair at some point during the course of a day, and strolled in to check us out at breakfast time). The property is close to several restaurants and a short drive from Addo National Park. We only ate dinner in the restaurant once, but the food was absolutely delicious and extremely well presented - the restaurant staff were all lovely too. Great breakfast too - we're not big breakfast eaters, but the staff were happy to make us scrambled eggs and (unusually in my experience) unfazed when we said we really really did only want one egg and one rasher of bacon! Sadly, we had to cut our stay short, as we had to return to Port Elizabeth for an appointment, just as the weather was improving!
Cons: This is not a dislike, just a suggestion - a couple of big rugs in the restaurant might make the space a little more cosy and would also absorb some of the noise - we found that the combination of lots of glass doors, tiled floors, high ceilings, people, background music and general restaurant 'clattering' really bounced off all the hard surfaces and we slightly struggled to hear each other speak some of the time. Some rugs on the tiled floors would really help to absorb some of that. My only other comment, again not really a dislike, just something to be aware of, was that we had one of the rooms with an interconnecting door to the next room - the first night we had a baby neighbour, who was awake (and letting us all know - her parents for sure!) for quite a bit of the night, and the following night we had neighbours who were playing music or had the TV on (not sure which) quite loudly until quite late. Obviously we were slightly unfortunate in this respect and it's not something the hotel can really change, but if you are a light sleeper, it might be good to book one of the rooms which doesn't have this arrangement.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: we were in the "chrislin lodge" for three days. our room was very large and we imagined it to be exactly the same. The personnel was very friendly and helpful. we booked a safari in the elephant park three times and would do it again and again. the breakfast could use a little more choice, there is either sausage / cheese or egg, not both. the homemade jam is delicious. the dinner is outstanding, just great! we would love to come back!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is AMAZING, an incredible lodge near Addo Elephant National Park. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were super friendly and the accommodation grounds were lovely. The huts were cool and comfortable and the pool with sun loungers is a great addition. The easy access to CrissCross Adventures safari is also super ideal and we had a great time.
Cons: I can't think of any negatives!

Overview Reviews
When you stay at Happy Lands Self Catering/B&B in Addo, you'll be 10 minutes by car from Sir Percy Fitzpatrick Lookout. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I arrived late, and the hosts were very accommodating,it is a family environment and excellent gardens to stroll around. Whilst I was on my own,it is ideal for a family
Cons: Just remembered, I could not find a light switch and rather than disturb the hosts , I loosened the bulbs. I totally forgot to tell them!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hosts and a wonderful family atmosphere helped by the presence of Poppy the Labrador! Very nice breakfast with homemade muffins and honey from the farm and marmalade from the orange grove. This property is in the middle of the citrus groves and is so peaceful and away from the hustle and bustle. They provide tours to Addo which we took advantage of and thoroughly enjoyed we had a private tour and I think it is a far more relaxed way to see the park as opposed to driving yourself. We had dinner at Adrenaline and also did a zipline there which was thrilling.
Cons: Some signage would really help as when driving late at night through the groves it is easy to become lost. Also no restaurants nearby and on a Saturday night dinner can be served to the room but if like us you are a couple without kids wanting to go out the closest place was about 10k away. It was called Africano estate and the service on the night we went was shocking. Waited more than 1 hour for food and was shouted at by the waiter. This did not however detract from our enjoyment and we would recommend Happylands as we so enjoyed our stay there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Large comfortable rooms set in beautiful gardens. Great breakfast served on the veranda. Brilliant game drive with Emmanuel.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed our stay at Happy Lands. Beautiful place and very friendly hosts. We definetly come back.
6.0 Good
Pros: The property itself is very nice, green, family-friendly, lots of space, rooms are clean and big.
Cons: We did not feel warmly welcomed once we arrived. There was a woman standing in for Nita and she basically did not bother to give us a smile or a feeling of being welcomed. But she did not forgot to almost give us an order to come to breakfast no later than 8:15am (really? are we in the army? come on, it's our vacation!). But in case you sleep longer, it's not an issue as the breakfast is very very basic. No plain joghurt (only sweet one), no cheese, no salami and you need to wait for quite some time to get your scrambled eggs. Both lamps were not working in our room, we tried to fix them by ourselves, but I think they are just connected to power in a weird way, so we didn't want to inspect it further and risk the life...
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Chic rooms and furnishings, peaceful location and lovely set up.
Cons: Approaching gravel roads off putting for some visitors particularly when wet, spoiling ambience however this is beyond owners control.
9.6 Excellent

Pros: We loved everything about Kudu Ridge, Andrew and Allision was exceptional hosts and tried to please everyone, we loved it!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We chose the property for it’s proximity to Addo Elephant National Park and because we wanted a real bush experience rather than a conventional BnB. Alison and Andrew were lovely hosts. We would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.
Cons: No complaints.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly accommodation out in nature with all essentials, 10 min to Addo entrance gate. Very helpful and friendly owners, good bar service, open fire place, lodge feeling at the best!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: On arrival be careful if your car is low as the road is a little uneven, however you are staying on a game reserve. On arrival you are greeted by a friendly smile and welcomed by all the gorgeous 4 legged friends who are more than happy to show you to you accommodation! The accommodation although basic was clean and tidy and we slept like babies! However the reason for my high high recommendation is the owners and staff and the evening welcoming into their home and family. The dinner was amazing and we meet people here and enjoyed swapping stories and places and recommendations! Please stay here! We were sorry we didn’t book more nights! Well done all at kudu ridge! Thanks
Cons: Chairs on the deck to sit and appreciate the view and sunset - but I’m clutching at straws here!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality. Owners and staff are so friendly. The food is delicious.
7.0 Good
Pros: Lovely place, friendly staff, almost like a home away from home, with all the pets hanging about. The deck at sunset was amazing. Great to meet people from various countries around the fire in the evenings.
Cons: Very little not to like, but perhaps just a suggestion for summer sheets in the rooms.

Pros: Lovely place with a big garden which you share with just a few other guests. Big swimming pool. Service is very good, they even cleaned our car and they help you immediately.
Cons: The dinner choice in the hotel is a bit limited, but you can decide in the morning if you like the daily menu.
7.1 Good
Pros: Nice and helpful staff Beautiful and relaxing garden Great tasting food
Cons: The room was very dark and dismal It is a shame not to have the possibility to take meals on the terrace The music in the dining room drives crazy Great food but really expensive for South Africa Pool could get cleaned more often
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful gardens Food was good Big bathroom
Cons: Room bad lighting Not very private right at entrance Left without finishing our breakfast as we were ignored and had to wait very long to be served while people who arrived much later were served before us.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Conveniently situated. Lovely warm pool. Friendly staff but think the front desk could have been more on the ball with self drive Addo. We were advised that gate opens at 5am and it does but the office to get your permit to get in the gate only opens at 7am.
Cons: Found the dining area a bit dark and the musak boring.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Here we had our best dinners and the most beautiful garden of our gardentour in SA
Cons: unfortunately our room (5) can not stand up to this standard, it smells moddy and the furniture are not antique but ugly
10.0 Excellent

9.0 Excellent
Pros: The host Vicky was very helpful with organising activities (especially on very short notice) and she went out of her way to make my stay as comfortable as possible and she always took time explaining everything regarding the guest house but also in terms of exploring the area. And on top of that I got an upgrade and had a huge room with big terrace right in the nature.Thank you very much
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We just loved our stay!! Vicky is an amazing host, taking such good care of us. On arrival Vicky gave us a perfect introduction what to see/do in the area as well as in the Addo Elephant Park. The park entrance is just a few minutes’ drive away, couldn't be more perfect. The Southern part of the elephant park is less frequented and we saw most of the animals spotted exactly there. Coming back home to our family cottage we enjoyed the very relaxing atmosphere at Vicky's place, the house is fully equipped and you will find everything you need! The attention to details was highly appreciated, the beds are super comfy and the house is spotlessly clean. Vicky is available anytime not only in person but also on whatsapp, which we appreciated a lot. Also her recommendation for a nearby restaurant was superb, we couldn't have a better choice! The premises are very save and also parking is secured. But the highlight was Vicky's phenomenal effort to organize a birthday breakfast celebration for my father - she organized a birthday cake with candles and decorated the breakfast room with balloons - my father was over the moon! We can only say thank you so so much dear Vicky, we will definitely come back and give you only the highest recommendations! Big hugs to you!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location to Addo Elephant Park.
6.7 Good
Pros: The location was good. It was near the Addo Elephant Park and we got some good information about the park and important information about the supermarket/restaurants as well. The host is helpfull.
Cons: The guest house is very noisy so both mornings we were awake at 6/6.30u because the other guests were leaving early of were having breakfast and we could hear them and the host quite loudly. The host told us in advance but it's something you have to take into account when you're a light sleeper. In our opinion, there wasn't that much privacy at the accommodation because the host was present all the time which is not necessary, because she lives next door. (for example when waiting for new guests or during breakfast) It's a good thing to be helpful to your guests, but a good host also needs to know when to leave guests alone at their accommodation during their holiday. It sometimes felt like we were in her own house instead of the guesthouse. Some people may like it when the host is around/to have much contact, but for us it was a bit uncomfortable.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Adequate for a quick overnight stop
Cons: Location is not great. some security concern Shower in bathroom is not a proper shower but a handheld type in a bath with no splash screen
7.5 Good
Pros: Great breakfast
Cons: Location
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Vicky who ran the Guest House was fantastic. I had a lot of communication from her before we got there with details on Addo, other trips, Farm stalls near by. We decided to have food at the accommodation which was very reasonable and tasty, including wine. The property backs onto Addo is a 5 minute drive to the entrance. I don't think there is much to do nearby but we didn't go out at night so I couldn't comment
Cons: Nothing. Everything was good.

Cons: Only buffet dinner (5 courses) is available, not the best option for the light meal. However the buffet is very good, best fit for the big hunger.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was beautiful and clean and we were welcomed with champagne on ice which was lovely.
Cons: One thing I didn't like was that there was no curtains on the shower which is usually fine but one morning the man mowing the lawn saw me naked when he went past. It really isn't an issue with me but might be something to look at.

10.0 Excellent
