Pros: Richard and Elaine are two of the nicest people you will meet and you feel like you are staying with friends rather than at a B&B. The breakfast was excellent with locally sourced ingredients. They also had an eye on being green and sustainable which ticks the right boxes for us.
Cons: Our room had a private bathroom but it wasn't on-suite. There were however wonderfully soft robes provided so the 5 steps you had to take were comfortable.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Owners were very approachable and nice to talk to. They made you feel comfortable without seeming to try. They had good knowledge about the town and where was good to go, and had leaflets for outings around the area.
Cons: The chairs weren’t very comfortable in the room - but that is just nit picking.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Our stay at Laurel House was without doubt the best weekend break we have ever had in many years. Jeff and Alex were the most attentive, caring proprietors one could wish for. We felt so much a part of the home, particularly so, on our Sunday morning breakfast, which we shared, and enjoyed, with a Scottish couple, and two Japanese archaeology students. A really "international breakfast". Jeff and Alex's attention to their guests, ensuring they had wonderfully comfortable beds, and quite incredible breakfasts, is what they are all about. They have based their provision on what they would want - they have excelled! We will be back within the next month or so, and have already recommended "Laurel House" to our friends.
Cons: Going home!
7.7 Good
Pros: Alex & Jeff were very friendly and accommodating. My fiance and I had to get up very early the following day and Alex & Jeff had no problem serving us breakfast at a much earlier time. We were also able to return to the hotel after our excursion to shower and dress before heading leaving. Jeff's home made bread at breakfast and the home made preserves were a lovely addition to an absolutley lovely, peaceful and relaxing stay.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Easy to find in traditional village pub. V comfortable bed.
Cons: Television quite small and very high on wall but that’s being very picky!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic Breakfast, Staff very friendly and helpful. Location was good, central to everywhere we needed to be.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We arrived to check in exhausted, stinking and covered in mud, having endured 3 days of Battle of the Somme conditions at the Kendal Calling festival. Despite the fact it was 9am we were invited in and cooked the most scrummy breakfast ever. As we were due to leave early the following morning we were allowed ‘tomorrow’s breakfast today’. A most sensible and generous offer. Big shout out for the suggestion of checking out the ice cream farm on the walk back to the festival site. The room was lovely and the bed was huge. Very peaceful and we left the following morning well rested. We were very much left with the inclination to visit again and see what this area beteeen the lakes and the dales has to offer. The landlord expressed his desire to purchase the building outright and I certainly hope he succeeds in this ambition. You’re all doing a good job at the moment. Bradley Wiggins obviously seemed to appreciate the place, he left left his yellow jersey there.
Cons: It was all good
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good room and the food was very good
6.8 Good
Pros: Accommodation was clean & roomy with toilet & shower facilities.
Cons: We booked the accommodation having read excellent reviews about the food. Having travelled 6 hours we were looking forward to the extensive menu offered on the pub website - very disappointed to find when getting to our table that a very limited menu was available as the chef wasn’t on that Friday night. There was no notice of this and food available was lunch fayre so not ideal. Also yurt has skylight that could not be covered that meant the room was light at daybreak so we were awake from 4.20!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Easy access from motorways. Close to Askham and Lakes. Friendly staff. Generous breakfasts and good evening meals.
Cons: For some reason my dog disliked the staircase, but otherwise it was exactly what I wanted.
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Deep in Lake District, great food: Penny's pies are excellent , kitchen understands what is "medium rare" steak as well and it was great. Very friendly with dogs. We took the huts and they are nicer then in the pictures. Full "thumbs up" from us!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stayed here for 2 nights and were surprised with all the little extras in the room. All the staff were friendly. The menu choice is large with something to cater for all and excellent home cooked food. Highly recommend visiting here and staying over. Will visit again......
Cons: Lots of flies in the dining area while eating were disappointing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Range of food for dinner The hot milk i asked for to go with my coffee The extra fresh milk i asked for in the yurt Instant hot water in the shower Friendly staff My partner had the amazing curry pie which he said was amazing
Cons: Maybe a little flask of fresh milk in the yurt to go with kettle for the tea and coffee. But i asked for some and the staff were very friendly and got me some
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place to stay. Evening meals were excellent with large vegi selection. Breakfast was equally good and the fresh baked bread was a real treat **. Rooms are clean and well equipped although after a hot summers day a little stuffy but nothing that opening the window fully for an hour or so didn't fix. Bar is homely with a good selection of beers ciders and top shelf. As is often the trend at the moment there was a large gin selection for anyone keen. Overall an easy recommendation for anyone travelling through the area.
Cons: Cant think of anything I would change.

Pros: Location / views over the reservoir / drinks on the terrace / nearby walks / room (we stayed in high street which had a great view and newly renovated decor / fantastic bath tub / top quality breakfast
Cons: The parts of the hotel which have not yet been renovated are lesser quality (eg public bathrooms on ground floor) Service in the restaurant in the evenings was a bit hit and miss with some long waits and mixed up orders both nights. Food was very enjoyable however
6.8 Good
Pros: Restaurant and bar were exceptional
Cons: The mattress on the bed was worn out - you could feel the hard lines of the metal reinforcement Had a really bad nights sleep as a result Such a pity - everything else was fine - but getting a good night sleep is obviously the whole point of staying somewhere

5.6 Okay
Pros: fantastic position, loved the balcony overlooking the fells and the reservoir, bed was cosy and the public rooms and terrace all really good features: good breakfast
Cons: Disliked all the signs eg re bathwater economy ( bit like a boarding house!): we were sorry there was no shower for those not in ensuite rooms, also no washbasins in the public lavatory rooms: had trouble washing or drying my hair in provided facilities ( tried in bath then washbasin, then trying to dry it with the hand dryer was awkward): there was no soap in the public bathroom sinks and they were rather draughty bathrooms: it was a great pity bar meals stopped at 6.30pm esp as good choice and menu: we didn`t want the evening meal and in the end went out to local village Bampton for a meal

Pros: The beds were very comfortable. It was the hottest night in July and the room had a fan in it which was spot on. Lovely quaint garden area where we sat for a couple of drinks.

6.8 Good
Pros: The staff were accommodating regarding a bath in our room and juggled the rooms so I could have one of these. The bar staff where friendly and made good suggestions regarding my drink. The breakfast was nicely presented.
Cons: The bathroom had not been thoroughly cleaned as I found a couple of hairs in the bath by the shower end. The room was compact but for the price reasonable. There were a lot of flies in the bar and the breakfast area (and a couple in the bathroom) they might have a small problem.

Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Cons: The fly problem!!! Honestly this was out of hand...plenty of old building have this issue with Flies that hibernate in the wooden beams in the winter and the come to life (often by the windows) in the summer- but you can get an exterminator in for the building who can kills the eggs by fumigating ...even insect smoke bombs can help...honestly couldn’t sleep for flies landing on me every 10 seconds...I counted 20...killed most of them and more sprang up!!!
7.5 Good
Pros: Evening meal was lovely and fairly priced. Service was excellent and friendly. Location very good. Bar prices good and checkout easy and quick.
Cons: The flies in my room although I understand this is common at this time of year. Fly swatter wasn't much use. Perhaps provide and fly strip as you have outside.

Pros: Lovely site
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was better than we expected. We had a family room for 4 people and there was enough room for all of us. The service was great and the staff were very good. The breakfast was great and the fresh honey was amazing and not something that we expected at all. The grounds were immaculate and the car park was sizeable enough. All in all it was an ideal place to stay with the family over night.

Pros: Stayed in an apartment which was brilliant. Really comfy and modern The grounds of Roundthorn House were also beautiful and was great to enjoy a few drinks in the gardens Short & enjoyable walk to Penrith where there were lots of nice restaurants. 8.9 Excellent (1,270 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were extra friendly and welcoming
Cons: Less flies haha
6.3 Good
Pros: Staff were superb, couldn’t do enough for you. Clean and in good repair. Good size room
Cons: No air conditioning in the rooms, the rooms were provided with a fan and I was supplied with an extra one upon request. But on the hottest day on record trying to get ready for a wedding in a family room with 3 other people, meant my makeup had completely melted off my face before I even left the room. I don’t think any of us managed more than a few hours sleep for either night we stayed. Also a bit disappointed that they close the pool to children between 11 and 3 which is the time that most people will go with their children. 2 x 2hr stints would be better for all.
9.3 Excellent
Cons: The price of a pot of tea was ridiculous £4.30 per pot for one person!! Totally over priced
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and well presented
Cons: -
10.0 Excellent
Pros: very good choice served by charming staff --so many areas to sit in-- wooly blankets to sit round the fire pit
Cons: Wine prices --shot themselves in the foot !!! 6 pounds for a small 125 ml wine equates to 30 pounds a bottle. Hotels do not need a cellar store, Sainsbury is 2 mins drive the will deliver next day --free-- and good wine from them is 7 pounds a bottle mark that up to 16 pounds a bottle and still make big profit. CHEAPEST WINE WAS 25.00 POUNDS-- get real
7.0 Good
Pros: The receptionist was brilliant! Great service.
Cons: Unorganized staff in the restaurant. Restaurant staff needs to have a better system / experienced manager. Breakfast and dinner was a bit of a mess.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast selection was fantastic and I like how a member of staff served the full English ,it prevents unnecessary wastage. I would have preferred some sunflower spread as I prefer this to butter, but I am only one guest and can live without it for one day. the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, modern and comfortable room, the lobby and the rest of the property was homely and innovative in design. The pool and whirlpool facilities were great.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Really nice and lovely staff.
Cons: Everything was perfect.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Coffee machine, selection of teas, biscuits and local toffee in our room was wonderful... fresh milk was fab too! The staff were wonderful, knowledgeable of the area and couldn't do enough to help.
7.3 Good
Pros: Despite the weather, which turned whilst we were there the staff and facilities were excellent.
Cons: Nothing :-)
7.3 Good
Pros: My husband and I like to stay at the north lakes hotel because it is a wonderful halfway point when we are travelling down south and we know we will be given first class service. We also enjoy the homely log fires etc. This Hotel gives us everything we expect from a Hotel.
Cons: On arrival we sometimes feel that some areas are fully occupied with business people on mobiles and computers treating these areas as they would an office.
5.0 Okay
Pros: the spa facilities were excellent and the staff were very helpfull and good parking facilities.
Cons: I thought £145 for room only was expensive and that the bedroom and bathroom should be updated for that sort of money. Also the breakfast service could be more efficient
7.3 Good
Pros: Nice, clean, good quality hotel with good facilities including, of course, the Pool and Spa. Kids room with Wii, PS2, Pool table, Air Hockey and boarad games was a nice addition. The room was very well appointed with a very high quality bathroom and nice furnishings. TV had a number of Sky channels. Overall a very nice place to stay.
Cons: Room was a little noisy, not so much in the night but certainly in the morning when people were in the corridor outside. I wouldn't let this put me off returning though.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice welcome and all the staff tried very hard to make the stop enjoyable. Chap who sorted our bikes into the store was excellent and smiled away even in the rain. Loved the place and will be back again. Perfect start to our long weekend away. Spar very good and kids loved the games room.
Cons: Think some of the meals were too expensive - ended up eating out as young family of four - too much for a short break.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It was all lovely
Cons:
6.0 Good
Pros: Immediate email response to request for dinner reservations
Cons: somewhat impersonal
6.0 Good
Pros: Being upgraded to a suite
Cons: I thought the food in the restaurant was a bit disappointing, it wasn't as good as I'd have expected. My duck was pretty tasteless and the scallops were drowning in cheese and fat.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Bed was comfortable
Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Clean, good hostess tray and standard of bedroom fittings. Nice selection of toiletries in bathroom.
Cons: Room was rather airless; window difficult to open because of secondary (sound proofing) glazing. Would benefit from a powered fan, or similar, to circulate/cool the air. Shower controls were difficult to see and very slow to respond.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very central, and with parking around the back. Room clean and met all my needs.
Cons: My room was on top floor and no lift! Some areas of the hotel a little tired.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Really great dog friendly hotel. Noel and bed for dog in room and we were able to have breakfast in lounge area with her too.
Cons: It was really really hot in the room but it was a hot day so hot the hotel’s fault but it meant I didn’t get much sleep. Took a while to find the carpark!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff and the rooms and cleanliness were excellent.
Cons: As above
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The old world charm was really nice, even given that it was refurbished. The room was lovely, although small. Modern facilities.
Cons: It was all lovely.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We were very surprised at the size of the room. It was comfortable and very clean. We took our two dogs with us and waiting for them was a bed and bowl each plus we were only charged £10 per dog where at the Travelodge its £20 and not nearly as comfortable or pleasant. We would defiantly use it again.
Cons: Lack of garden for dogs but it is a town centre hotel so......?
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The building itself the bar and comfy areas to sit and relax with a drink, and also dappers bar. Also its central location.
Cons: Cant think of anything other than it was really warm overnight so a fan in summer might be useful for the bedrooms.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good location, good price and friendly staff
Cons: If you are looking for a boutique type hotel, this is not it. However, if you are looking for period charm this is the place to stay!

Pros: I enjoyed the charm and comfort of the hotel. Have been staying in Penrith for the past 30 years in a bed and breakfast and thought it about time I had a change as my husband died 7 years ago.No regrets.
Cons: There are no complaints at all fortunately.
6.4 Good
Pros: Helpfullness of staff
6.7 Good

Cons: Bar shut early!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The helpfulness, friendliness and efficiency of the staff
Cons:
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic hotel. Old world charm and great service with comfortable rooms at a very good price. I will be staying here again !!
Cons: All round a very pleasing experience. Would consider staying longer in future.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Old fashioned hotel, friendly staff, good food, cheerful fires burning, newspapers available to sit with in the bar, lovely & comfortbale chairs in the foyer area, good fire exits outside our windows
Cons: Cold coffee @ breakfast
4.8 Okay
Pros: worked
Cons: difficulty in finding car park
6.4 Good
Pros: Attractive decor downstairs, room clean albeit very small, good clean bathroom with good shower, good quality products used in the breakfast, even the tea was good, unlike a lot of hotels in England. Having a free car park is a bonus.
Cons: Some of the upstairs decor was a bit unusual, and the door to my room was shabby, which undermined the superb appearance of the ground floor decor.
