8.0 Excellent
Pros: We booked for Jap room 12 square metre with bathroom and no bath tub. I think we were upgraded to such a spacious room of around 30 square metre with separate living room, bedroom and bath tub. A lovely lady named Kayoko servedas our private concierge. We manage to communicate using the translation apps. Nice stay. Onsen was good too.
Cons: I know its Roykan type. Dinner was okay while breakfast was very Jap style. We set the GPS in our Toyota rental car using Haiya's tel nbr but it didn't bring us to its front entrance. I had to walk around its vicinity in total darkness at 7C temperature and drizzles to look for the hotel. Perhaps they can do something to improve so guests can locate the hotel easily.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: They confirm your reservation with direct communication so they know exactly when you will arrive and they have the shuttle service waiting for you upon arrival. They know exactly how many people so the kimonos are all ready upon arrival at the ryokan. I went with twin grandchildren who are 3 years old and they had kimonos and slippers to fit them exactly. The hotel has beautiful Japanese gardens and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff is wonderful and fulfilled all our needs. The food is exceptional and you eat in your own private dining room. I went to Haiya ryokan in March and liked it so much that I brought my family back. I will go to Awara Onsen only because of this hotel.
Cons: Nothing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: B'fast was good- no raw eggs. Dinner was very good- most Japanese food had been too salty- this hotel's was not salty. A bit out of the way, but courtesy bus was always available. Very well trained staff- friendly and polite.
Cons: Unless you are going for a Ryokan stay, and Tohjinbo, it's a bit far. You need a car.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great staff, very nice to children. Amazing food, both dinner and breakfast. Nice spa area.
