Overlooking the Persian Gulf, the glitzy capital of Qatar has built its foundation on cutting-edge design, architectural marvels, and world-class opulence. Yet, amongst the skyscrapers and artificial islands, the city is proud of its rich history and culture. You’ll find that many of the best hotels in Doha intentionally blend these elements, featuring dazzling displays of modern architecture and hints of traditional Arabic interior design. It’s one of my favorite things about Doha’s hotel offerings, as it makes the hotels feel inspired and innovative yet warm and welcoming. There are amenity-heavy hotels for business travellers and classy, resort-style properties featuring rooftop pools and wellness centres for the more leisure-focused. While the city may appear like a mirage amidst the Arabian desert, Doha offers a retreat for every type of traveller looking for an indulgent getaway. Here’s my pick of the best hotels in Doha.

In the heart of Doha, the Grand Regency Hotel brings to life the vibrant tapestry of the city through its purposeful design, making it one of the luxury hotels in Doha.

Located near Doha’s bustling business centre, the large sandstone hotel offers business travellers and leisure seekers a place to unwind in one of over 245 rooms and suites. Go for complete luxury with the Al Kaabi Royal Suite, draped in rich furnishings and featuring a private hot tub with city views.

Meanwhile, the on-site gourmet restaurant caters to every taste, with a varied international menu cooked by master chefs from around the world. After a busy day of meetings or exploring the city, I like to rejuvenate by soaking in the built-in hot tub or enjoying a drink at the outdoor pool.

Discover a unique experience in one of the best hotels in Doha based in the iconic Souq Waqif, the city’s historic and cultural centre. With a variety of rooms and suites on offer, the hotel easily captures the vibrant essence of traditional Arabian markets while offering contemporary interior design and outstanding comfort.

You can choose from eight restaurants across multiple locations, each focusing on a different cuisine, from Moroccan to Georgian. My top tip: after a wander through the bustling stalls of the souq, reset your senses at Doha’s only Moroccan hammam experience, known simply as The Spa.

Rotate through scrubs, steams, massages and healing facials with the attentive and professional staff. Those visiting for business will also find a range of meeting and conference facilities, from outdoor rooftop lounges to indoor theatres for hosting events.

Located in Souq Al Najada, near the traditional Souq Waqif, Al Najada Doha Hotel by Tivoli is a tranquil haven amidst the buzzing marketplaces. The hotel blends modern design with traditional curved archways, neutral desert tones, and Islamic geometric patterns. All without losing high-end comfort.

Many of the rooms and suites come with private balconies with unmatched views over the city skyline and the piazza below. Inside, rooms combine modern Arabic style with a relaxing ambience to create a peaceful escape from Doha’s hustle and bustle.

One of the best luxury hotels in Doha, the outdoor pool is one of my perfect places to beat the heat with an ice-cold drink in hand. At sundown, be sure to head up to the piazza terrace for a meal at the on-site restaurant.

Part of the renowned Ramada by Wyndham collection, this property in Old Town Doha is ideal for the everyday traveller looking for an amenity-rich retreat.

Located within walking distance of many of the city’s major sights, including the Souq Waqif, Doha Corniche, and Museum of Islamic Art, this is one of the best hotels in Doha for location. The bright and polished interiors create a warm and welcoming ambience, while traditional Arabic textures and patterns add a dash of local flair.

There are plenty of facilities designed for relaxation, leisure and business, including a gym, an outdoor pool, and a business centre. It’s the dining options that impress the most, though, offering everything from poolside Lebanese cuisine and a stylish bar with hand-crafted cocktails to an international all-day restaurant and on-site Starbucks.

Located in Doha’s bustling entertainment district, the Mondrian lights up the city with its unique contemporary style that has the added wow factor. Based in the West Bay Lagoon area next to the distinctive Zig Zag Towers, Mondrian Doha offers over 200 rooms and nearly 60 suites.

Each room was put together by Marcel Wanders, a world-class designer who focused on combining Arabian elements with striking furnishings and decorations including wall murals, crystal chandeliers and curved lounges. But what sets the Mondrian apart as one of the top-rated hotels in Doha is its superb dining offerings.

On-site restaurant Morimoto’s menu is inspired by ancient Japan, while Walima focuses on locally sourced ingredients. Don’t leave without trying the fried monkfish. Meanwhile, Smoke and Mirrors is the place to go for innovative cocktails, and the panoramic views from the rooftop bar, Rise, are hard to beat.

The Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay occupies an impressive New York-esque 44-story tower in the heart of the Diplomatic Area. Located within a 10-minute walk of the City Center shopping mall and Doha Corniche, the property is ideal for waterfront walks and shopping sprees.

The hotel has 283 Art Deco-inspired rooms and suites, each with floor-to-ceiling windows, spacious lounge areas, crisp white linens, and walls lined with modern artwork. As part of the Hilton brand, you can expect excellent dining experiences.

Indulge in the now-iconic Waldorf Astoria afternoon tea at Peacock Alley or sample the 1930s-inspired Chinese restaurant on the rooftop. The spa and fitness centre occupy a four-floor sanctuary, where I have enjoyed countless body massages, floated in the pool and joined group yoga classes, making this one of my favourite spots for relaxation.

The Plaza Hotel is situated in a grand, imposing building right in the heart of the city centre. As one of the best hotels in Doha, its regal splendour is evident inside and out, with Parisian-inspired interiors featuring sparkling chandeliers, soft velvets, draping curtains, and vibrant splashes of colour.

There are 290 rooms to choose from, and residential suites come complete with a full kitchen and dining area, making this one of the best hotels to stay in Doha for those travelling with groups or families.

The outdoor infinity pool is a real highlight, overlooking the city and boasting an open deck with a bar – my favourite spot for watching the sunset with a refreshing drink in hand.
To top it all off, an entire floor is dedicated to a glitzy ballroom featuring hand-painted walls by Italian artists – a worthy place to host events fit for royalty.

Doha’s Mandarin Oriental is an intimate and stylish retreat. Decidedly urban, it still manages to remind guests of its Qatari heritage, with off-white neutrals, Arabic geometric patterns, and textured linens. Located in the heart of the Msheireb Downtown area, it overlooks the Middle East’s largest covered square with a retractable roof.

The hotel has over 200 rooms, suites, and apartments, each designed by the world-renowned David Collins Studio to blend subtle elements of Doha’s heritage into a contemporary space. This is one of the best hotels in Doha for travellers looking to relax in style after exploring the city.

Take a break by the outdoor rooftop pool in a private cabana, or indulge in a spot of pampering at the on-site spa. Of the hotel’s nine dining outlets and bars, I recommend the French Mediterranean cuisine at IZU and the homemade gelato at the ice cream parlour.

Business travellers will love retreating to this incredible modern marvel in the heart of Doha’s financial district. The soaring tower hotel features 278 rooms and suites, each with high ceilings, vast windows offering stellar city views, freestanding bathtubs and simple yet comfortable decor. The temperature-controlled outdoor pool has an open-air design, complete with views of the surrounding skyscrapers, making it one of the best hotels in Doha for sky-high vistas. Relax with a drink at the al fresco bar, or unwind even further with a soothing facial or massage at the spa.

Follow your nose to the Bazar West Bay Restaurant, which was inspired by local souqs and serves up traditional dishes with a focus on fresh ingredients and aromatic spices (you have to taste the calamari and lamb).

Easily one of the most unique hotels in Doha, Raffles occupies half of the iconic Katara Towers, which curve majestically out of the desert on the edge of the waterfront. Opened in 2022, this has fast become one of the best hotels in Doha, known for its extravagant design.

Located in the Lusail district, the hotel is Qatar’s first suite-only property, with 132 suites featuring curved ceilings, beautiful archways, touches of gold, and floor-to-ceiling windows offering sea and city views.

Dining is taken seriously here, too, with several themed eateries and bars, including the Northern Italian restaurant Alba, the soulful, dimly-lit jazz bar Acoustic Music Penthouse and the Malaki Raffles Lounge, which serves artisanal afternoon teas.

Blending the wisdom of Ayurveda with proven active ingredients from Swiss laboratories, the wellness centre offers private treatments and an outdoor pool for total relaxation.
