KAYAK’s top tips for hiring a car in Leknes

  • When booking your trip to Leknes, Norway, keep in mind that it is best to choose Leknes car hire as your transport option of choice. The small beachside village has a tiny population and small roads connecting you to landmarks. There is a small bus operating company, but car hire in Leknes is your best bet to explore the beautiful town at your own pace. There are about seven local car hire companies operating in and around Leknes, and through KAYAK, you can search for a good deal and book your preferred vehicle of choice.
  • Although Leknes Airport (LKN) is very small, you are still able to choose a Leknes car hire to pick up on your arrival. There are about seven car companies operating at the airport, including Hertz, Avis, Europcar, Suny Cars, Sixt, Budget and Keddy. Intermediate cars are popular, but it all depends on where you plan to drive. If you want to explore the mountains, it is a good idea to get an SUV. As the airport is small, if you want to get the best deal for cheap Leknes car hire, it’s better if you book through KAYAK prior to arrival to get better deals and car availability.
  • Leknes is a quaint seaside village, and so there are no major highways; you should be aware of keeping within the speed limit. Be careful of walkers, cyclists and animals on the roads. There are beautiful scenic routes to take, but you need to drive with caution, as there are a lot of winding routes through the mountains. When driving in the city centre, it is best to drive slowly and be alert.
  • When collecting your car hire in Leknes, be aware of the following issues you may come across if you are a foreigner and not used to driving in this country. The roads are generally uncongested but can get busy in the village. Make sure to watch for one-way streets and very windy routes, which you will need to navigate at the correct speeds. If you want to make the journey less stressful, make sure you hire an automatic car. There are sometimes sneaky speed traps that can catch you, so look out for these.

Hertz was a nightmare to deal with, never responded to emails both before and during the rental. Refused to sign off the car for no damage until after they had washed it. Kayak was no better as they did not answer queries about the rental.
