Terrible service. Use a different car rental compaCons: The representative has declined to rent me a car because my drivers license was not issued more then 2 years ago.. I explained to the gentleman I've been licensed for over 10 years but the ID card itself expires every 4 and the DMV often issues a new one.
A car hire is the most comfortable and efficient way not only to explore the city of Poznań, but also the surrounding region of Western Poland. Hop in the car and drive around Lake Malta or head to nearby historical cities, such as Kostrzyn nad Odrą, which is known for holding the annual Woodstock Festival and is only a two-hour drive away. With a hire car you can also freely explore other Central European cities, such as Vienna or Prague.
All the big car hire agencies, including Hertz, Europcar, and Avis, can be found at Poznań–Ławica Henryk Wieniawski Airport (POZ), which is conveniently located just over 3 miles west of downtown Poznań. All the car hire desks are situated in the Arrivals Hall of the airport's main terminal, just next to the exit. The roads around the airport can be quite confusing, so make sure you ask for a GPS device.
While driving around Poznań is quite straightforward, just know that, if you embark on a road trip to other cities, roads are typically narrow and dimly lit, and you will often come across both pedestrians and cyclists. You must drive with the headlights always on, and drunk driving laws are extremely strict, so avoid having any alcohol at all if you're driving. Keep restrictions or extra fees in mind when crossing the border into other countries.
Traffic in Poznań is relatively tame compared to other big Polish cities, but it does get a little heavier during rush hours, so avoid driving around between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., and then again between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. so you don't add extra time to your travels. Major destinations such as like Gdansk, Zakopane, or the lake district experience a heavy influx of tourists in the summer, so prepare your journey in advance and expect a few delays.
