If you are looking for a countryside retreat near the coast, The Gaslight Inn and Foyagh House both offer romantic views of Rossnowlagh Beach on the Wild Atlantic Way. Harvey’s Point and Lough Eske Castle are inland and closer to Donegal Town but still offer a natural, beautiful retreat from city life. They are both located on the shores of Lough Eske. Lough Eske Castle is only 3 miles from the Bluestack Mountains, while Harvey’s point is situated just on the edge of where the mountains start.
The Central Hotel is beside the River Eske, where the most famous pubs and bars are. The Central Hotel has an indoor pool and fitness centre, but you will need to call to check availability at the hotel. The Reveller’s Lodging is located in the heart of Donegal Town, has a bar and is soundproofed so you can sleep well at night. Both The Central Hotel Donegal and The Reveller Lodgings are within minutes’ walking distance of the Reel Inn, one of the most famous pubs for live traditional music in Donegal, as well as McCafferty’s Bar and the Forge.
The Central Hotel and the Bridges Guest House B&B are perfectly located in the centre of Donegal Town, only a few minutes’ walk away from Donegal Castle and the famous Famine Graveyard. They are well placed to catch the bus to Letterkenny, where you can change to Dunlewy and visit Errigal Mountain, which is about 50 miles from Donegal Town and one of the most historic landmarks in Donegal County. You can also get a bus to Letterkenny, then a taxi to An Grianán of Aileach, the famous stone fort near Derry/Londonderry, and about 25 miles from Donegal Town.
If you are looking to relax with your children surrounded by nature, then Harvey’s Point and Lough Eske Castle offer family rooms and plenty of fresh air, as well as fishing, cycling and horse riding facilities. A little closer to Donegal Town, Mill Park Hotel offers a swimming pool and comfortable family rooms only half a mile from the town centre. Donegal Manor offers additional baking classes and is conveniently placed near Donegal Golf course and between Donegal Town and Lough Eske.
Travellers who like staying near Lough Eske recommend Harvey's Point and Lough Eske Castle.
