Friendly staff, good accommodation and ecellent location fo the mountains. Good car parking too. The poor exchange rate agaist the £/Sf results in poor value for money rating. last time we visited the rate was 2.2 Sf to the £, this time it was 1.6!! It makes the holiday very expensive.
Spectacular site and quiet Starting to look a little frayed ( was here in the mid 90s 0
Warm and friendly run family hotel, excellent menus.
Everything about this hotel is wonderful. The location is away from the touristy part of town and elevated for beautiful, unobstructed views of the mountains. The staff is friendly and very helpful and speaks English well. The "on demand" shuttle to and from the train station works perfectly. The restaurant and breakfast serves tasty food. Our room was "upgraded", large with a useful balcony, modern bathroom, good wifi and well decorated, even with a blooming orchid. We would love to return some day.
Very friendly, homely and comfortable. A little bit far from the main part of town (10 minute walk).
We loved the friendly, welcoming staff who helped in any way they could. The room was the one we booked and the view of the Eiger was perfect. The food was excellent. Highly recommended. No, nothing we did not like.
They took care of our family a lot. View from room was so nice!
Fantastic location and lovely wood design. Small Rooms / Old TV sets.
Location , food and friendly staff Bathrooms need modernising - not 4 *
Beat Leuenberger was a real star...all staff very helpful. It was not very good to look at from the outside...more like a car park than a hotel!
Perfect location for skiing in a well preserved Alpine village. Facilities, such as swimming pool, spa and evening dancing (for older people) are excellent. Morning breakfast is very good. Evening meals not recommeded. I have stayed there for a week at least 10 times in last 20 years, but they still do not greet me accordingly on arrival, or wish me a pleasant trip and "Au revoir" on leaving. This is often, but not always the case in correct but cold Swiss hospitality. The "superior" room lacked a chest of drawers for clothes, an armchair or coffee machine.
nice welcoming, the best location in town when it comes to the First Bahn station Sauna was not included in the price of the hotelroom
The hotel is in a great position. Our room looked out on the Eiger. The food was good and the staff very helpful. The pool and spa facilities were first class. If we go back to Grindelwald we will stay there again. No.
Most amazing breakfast and a super location Nothing
For skiers the situation is perfect and it has all necessary facilities. Of particular importance is the spa and swimming pool and also the evening events for older people. All of these are much recommended for accompanying mature visitors who are not skiers. I have stayed some 15 times in last 20 years. I know the staff changes but the reservation computer is the same. I have never been greeted with a smile and "Welcome back Dr. Gale" or some such nicety. Also, when leaving, they never say "Hope you enjoyed your stay. Have a good trip home. Looking forward to seeing you next year". True, these are all trivialities of no real importance, but they add much to the good feeling of the guest.
Nice staff, facilities well equipped No wifi inside room
Location to ALPS Little pricey for quality of room. Rugs in rooms need updating.
sauna room and fitness room
Friendly atmosphere and a wonderful breakfast (I should say exceptional) !
Comfortable room and bed. English channels on tv (not typical in Switzerland ). Fun decor, and good location
The room was clean and spacious, very comfortable. The view from the room was superb with the massive Eiger north wall. Frankly speaking, the dishes are salty to my taste. I think they use more salt in this region than in other countries.
Dinner at Barry's
Location and breakfast/dinner. Food was so nice. non
Good buffet breakfast with much variety. We got upgraded to a chalet which had much space, was very quiet and included laundry & kitchen facilities which we made good use of. After staying in hotel rooms, it was good to spread out and relax and eat in for a change, instead of dining at $$$ restaurants all the time. Hotel had a fantastic modern gym facilities as well. Good central location in Grindelwald. We would have liked to stay longer
Hotel stuff was very nice and helpfull. Water mattres was also a big plus. At first, we had a room above the entrance and smoking smell and noise disturbed us, once we asked to change to room, we were transfered to a better one in manner of minutes. very good breakfast No wifi in most of the hotel, which is a big down.
Poor access to upper floors by two elevators and stairs. Room very basic with limited storage space
Excellent cost performance. Beuatiful location directly facing Eiger.
The elevated view across the valley is beautiful day as well as night
We enjoyed the realism of a Swiss Chalet experience and the wonderful food The building is a wooden structure and so there is more noise transfer between rooms than desirable
Very efficiently run. We would definately stay there again No
Location, Comfortable, Good dining particularly evening dinner Unfortunatley they ran out of soap! I understand we had one of the few rooms serviced with tablet soap.
Great location, great hospitality The beautiful landscape visible from the rooms is disturbed by a camping managed by the same owner of the hotel. Ok, business is business but the sight without the camping would be astounding!
Very friendly staff, the restaurant is simply amazing; breakfast is good too. Rooms are simple, but quite big and very clean; great views. The hotel is quite far from the center of Grindelwald, hence you'll get guaranteed tranquillity; but you have to have your own car, public transport are not frequent. The restaurant has amazing, gourmet style, food: but the menu should include something less elaborate too.
The staff was great... The shower was too short
Friendly and helpful staff, excellent location with an amazing view of the mountains.
A wonderful Swiss experience! Hosts were very friendly, attentive and helpful. Exceptional summertime views and winter must be magic. Because it is more isolated it was great to have a very good restaurant. The balcony was not private.
Very close to the station. Rooms ware not very spacious. Bed lines were not changed though we stayed 3 nights (We took off lines to show that we want it changed, but still it was not changed. This was unbelievable.
Central in the village close to all needed facilities. Excellent staff, service and food. Nice rooms especially the family room. Friendyl for dogs. Recomended.
Location Breakfast was thin on the ground, rooms were v basic as where facilities in room. More akin to a straight 3 star
SKIP THE FONDUE AT CAVA. When you arrive if you indicate you are interested in fondue, the hostess will seat you in the "stink" room. It was nauseating. We ordered fondue and the waitress asked if my husband and I were both going to have some? I said yes. We received a giant bowl of fondue with nothing to dip but bread. We ate a few bites and were done. I mean how much cheese can one consume? When we got our bill we were charged $48 for our fondue, rather than the $24 serving I was led to believe we were ordering. We spent the remainder of the night in the bathroom...
Very friendly staff, quick service Very small lifts
Room is clean, Station is in front of hotel. There is Japanese menu in hotel restaurant. Breakfast is good. Elevator is bad because of long waiting
Courteous staff, excellent breakfast, excellent location Nothing...
This hotel has to be one of the most conveniently located hotels in Switzerland. Located right at the Grindelwald train station in stunning natural beauty, the hotel is a fine example of Swiss hospitality, with all the services one would expect and walk-access to public transport.
The staff was very friendly and helpful - they even let us park our car at the hotel before we checked in to go up with the cable car - as well as for several hours after checking out. The restaurant was really nice and the food was excellent (except that my fish was a bit salty). The family rooms are extremely outdated but large and clean. Outside of the family rooms was a large sitting area, which we used to visit with my other family members (while having a small happy hour). The location right behind the train station was very convenient. The family rooms are very outdated - very old carpet & furniture and dark woodwork. The bed was very hard. The caulking around the sink had lots of "gunk" in it and should be replaced.
Very good location adjacent to the train station, in particular for travellers coming by train or for those who want to take an early train to the kleine Scheidegg. Nice rooms with view on the mountains. Close to city center. Excellent 5-course menu if half board is booked.
Staff all willing to help. Good selection for breakfast and fresh.
The staff was very helpful and spoke english. You could not ask for a better location!
clean, spacious rooms. friendly and helpful staff, good choice at breakfast would visit again.
location (close to railway), view, wireless, friendly reception bed, breakfast time vs. early trip to jungfrau, information on services
The staffs are very polite ,helpful and lovely. The coffee and tea room is very comfortable, good for relaxing. The lift to go upstair is too small, not convenient to transfer the baggages.
The location of the hotel from the station was a very easy walk once we found it.
The hotel is in need of remodeling and cleaning. It does not measure up to a 3-star rating.
Clean and comfortable room. Good location next to the Grindelwald train station.
Good location, very friendly and helpful staff. NA
Everything, staff were very friendly and helpful. The view was fantastic. Close to everything. Breakfast was good. Spacious rooms. Nice Layout of rooms. Will definitely return to Bernerhof Hotel. Everything was Magic!
View of mountains 5star price 3 star hotel eg no food available anywhere after 9pm
Stayed in the Eiger Suite. Beautiful view and very close to the town and all walking trails. The hotel staff was always nice and helpful. Great spa and dinner. Pillows weren't the best.
This hotel has magnificent views and a lovely, peaceful atmosphere. The staff are very professional and helpful.
The views of the Eiger were beautiful! Spa facilities were very clean and comfortable with great view. We enjoyed steam rice and miso soup at breakfast. Sauna was too hot for us.
Very nice staff. Super mountain views and good overall facilities
We loved the hotel, breakfast, rooms, staff, locations, and views. Everyone was very helpful and nice. The rooms were spacious with great views. Having to leave - can't wait to come back.
Everything you could possibily require, food in the restaurant especially good Nothing
The location was absolutely stunning,
Nice space in rooms and bathrooms + nice mountain view. Room service was not that good + a little bit over priced.
The hotel was perfectly clean and comfortable and the perfect location for skiing and walking. The customer service was excellent - 5 star plus service from a 4 star hotel! Such attention to detail. The food in the restaurant was superb (a real pleasure to have healthy options that tasted so good) and the restaurant had an excellent view to match. The swimming pool was an added bonus. We would have preferred to sleep in a double bed rather than two twin beds pushed together - especially as each bed had separate duvets. This could probably have been resolved by choosing another room type and we appreciate that many couples prefer this option.
The friendliness of the staff and excellent location
Very kind and helpful staff. Location, Affordable price and view from room (we could see Eiger clearly from our room). There were some noises from upper floor when people were walking.
Good Breakfast, very close to train station to Jungfrau.(within a few step). The hotel is clean and the staff are very cheerful and friendly.
Convinient location to train station.
Location in the beauty of fhe Swiss alps At CH 150/night in the slow season it was more expensive than some other hotels in Grindelwald,
Excellent location (close to train and bus stations, in city center), we had a nice and spacious room with a balcony and a view of Eigar summit. Hotel restaurant serves good food. Free hotel parking. The guests also get free access to the nearby SPA (which we did not visit). Very happy with the stay at the hotel in general. Breakfast staff were somewhat not very helpful - they were very slow to serve coffee and they would not notice if something has finished in the buffet. Also the wireless internet properly works only in the reception floor.
Good location near the trainstation, breakfast was nice and friendly staff. I dont have anything bad to say about this hotel, the prise was also ok ( in october) We are coming again, Grindelwald is a beautiful place!
The hotel is excellent. Good good, service and extremely clean. Very cosy and convenient location. We had a wonderful experience.
Great location Rooms are a bit small
very good breakfast, nice staff
There wasn't parking except for on the street and you had to carry your bags up one floor to get to where they had an elevator.
The location is very near to train station. Breakfast is excellent and the staff are very friendly as well. Minor dirt found in baconly but which is fine.
View of the Eiger from our balcony. Fairly central location. Room was very dated and had a very small bathroom.
free wifi internet in the lobby area , from train station walk 10mins reception and my room is different building , wifi internet only free in reception lobby
very helpfull staff we paid much more when reservated the hotel 2 months before arriving, & when we came, we saw an advertising on the hotel with much!!! lower price - unbelievable
The beds were very uncomfortable and the rooms very small for he price.
Nice swiss characteristic hotel. Nice view up the mountains. Friendly staff, very helpfull Small room but very cosy.
The veiw was out of this world. The room had a bad smell and was not clean.
A very good hotel in a superb location with a view of the north face of the Eiger Mountain. Plentiful buffet breakfast, cklean room with balcony and parking on site.
pleasant room, fabulous views, friendly helpfull staff Lack of a lift
location, view from of ;mountains from room, flexible staff (e.g., allow us to check in early and to store our luggage at the hotel after we checked out of our room )
It has the most amazing view of the mountains! Also the staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was wonderful but hands down, the view is the very best asset this hotel has to offer. There is an older part of the hotel and a newer part. The floors in the older part squeeked so bad that none of us could sleep the first night. The staff totally understood and were able to move us to the newer building which had an even more amazing view then the first older building. If possible, stay in the newer building because it is gorgeous!
restaurant, hotel location, cleanliness and friendliness modest rooms, modest space, does not match 4stars rating. conditions are for a 3star hotel but the price is for a 4 star
The Sauna was good. My room was very small. There was not even a table for the computer. They had bigger rooms, empty at this out of season time!
We spent a very nice family time at the hotel. Great starting point to all ski areas in the neighbourhood.
Restaurant attached to the hotel is EXCELLENT. :-) Dinner only served in main hotel dining room (not restaurant) from 7pm until 8:15pm. Very fixed time slots for servicing room.
Centrally located with views of mountains, receptionist very helpful directing us to local restaurants, easy walking distance if you arrive by rail. Small car park at rear of hotel.
to be in front of the ice sculptures and the train station parking area
It was in front of the train station and easy to move around. Also the view from the room was magnificient.
The inhouse restaurant was excellent. The room smell like a smoker's room.
The location is execellent for travel and local facilities
Silence and view from the room. Quality of tap water. Friendly personnel. Not so clean in corridors and stairs. Old bathroom with water slow to go down. Room entrance close to garbage disposal.
Location - very convenient to train station and stores. Rooms - comfortable and with good view. Wireless not available in our rooms.
kind staff, nice terrace and rooms, finest whisky collection, great view over the mountains and a unique spa area including everything for relaxing while you watch a wonderful movie on the Eiger ascent.... go ahead!
Fantastic views, kind staff, convenient location, free wi-fi, spacious suite. Car parking arrangements not clear in advance of arrival.
I stayed for 2 nights with my husband and 17-month old son, but, really wish we had stayed longer. Received a free upgrade from a double bed to a Junior Suite. The suite was very clean, wi-fi is free, the complimentary breakfast spread & timing is perfect and the staff speaks excellent English. The hotel has an italian restaurant attached - decent menu and reasonably priced. We ate dinner here on both nights. 5 mins away from station, situated right in the heart of the main market street, co-op at a stone's throw. However, the walk from station is up the hill. So, please make sure to call/wait for the free hotel shuttle instead of lugging your oversized/heavy luggage. Will definitely go back to the same hotel next time.

The spa is the best feature. Great view of the Eiger from our balcony. Well situated with regard to shops and station. A bit of a labyrinth. That's fine in high summer, but it would have been unpleasant to access our bedroom through the garage or the street in bad weather.
Location, great view from the room, decor of the room.
Very pleasant and polite staff. The room was adequate and clean. the view of the mountains was magnificent. This was a second honeymoon after 40 plus years of marriage. Hotel Spinne was ideal for this event. The room could be upgraded
The location is amazing. We had a mountain facing room. We woke up and saw the great peaks of Eiger and other mountains from our window. It was great to see the first Sun rays heat the peaks. We took many pictures of course. We also enjoyed having lunch in the outdoor dining area with astonising views.
The view and proximity to the train station. The restaurant closed early (10pm).
quality of the equipment in the bathroom
Personnel was very good and kind in solving the issues around poor maintenance. Bravo to the reception personnel. The pool is great! I would recommend this hotel when all the work around it is finished. the building site around the hotel. The half hourly trains passing by and stopping. The different maintenance issues of the rooms.
Convenient to the train station. staff was very helpful. Menu was very small and required american plan at the time of our stay. (they closed for the season shortly after our stay.)
Absolutely fabulous. The staff was great, especially Steffen and Karol. The room offered the best view of any place I've ever stayed. Loved it!
Outstanding and accomodating staff. Food was outstanding both for breakfast and dinner. Very responsive to any request. Excellent location (near train station) in Grindwald.
The hotel is conveniently located to everything, the facilities were clean and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. I found the restaurant to be excellent in both quality and service.
All the staff are nice. Quiet environment and convinient place close to the station and the downtown of Grindelwald. Great mountain view facing Eiger North Wall. I could not understand why a jag of hot water(probably boiling portable water) was CHF5.
friendliness of the staf the A La Carte menu in the Schmitte restaurant and that there is no nice white bread at breakfast. The Anchor bread has no taste. A shame as I don`t like brown bread of which there was plenty.
The staff were fantastic and very welcoming of us and our two small children. The two owners introduced themselves to us the first night which was really nice and they were always around the hotel, making it feel more personal than a normal large chain hotel. The rooms have english speaking channels too which was a big plus. We had a really lovely stay. The child surcharge wasn't made clear to us when we booked the room
Attention to detail and the welcoming attitudef the staff
The Alpenhof was a wonderful experience with mountain views from your balconies, staff were wonderful and English wasn't a problem. All in all a great place to stay and relax or see the sights.
The hotel is in a quiet location close to the centre of the village. The room we stayed in was big with a really great view of the Eiger.
It was so close to the castle. It's an older style hotel but we really enjoyed our stay and would visit again.
Central location There was a smell in the room. It was a very basic room.
Location was nice. There are a lot of nice hotels on this same street. Shower was very small and ceilings in our room were very low. They did not take American Express. Room was very small.
The breakfasts, the view, the information about walks and weather, helpful and cheerful owners who take an interest Thank you we enjoyed our stay Showers over the bath are slippery and dangerous. Shower only would be safer
The view of the Eiger was fantastic. Loved the private entrance and huge balcony. The bathroom was a little inadequate for 4 persons....shower was oddly shaped and difficult to use. Bathroom was fairly small as well. Beds were comfortable and the surroundings were very convenient and close to the shopping area. really nice staff, breakfast was also great. Bathroom size, shape. Also could have used a small refrigerator for cold drinks. Or an ice machine?
Friendliness and helpfulness of the Owners
receive a warm welcome from the staff of the hotel. the breakfast is very good.
Very well situated in the middle of Grindelwald with stunning views of the Eiger.. Lovely clean Alpine type room with wood paneling. Nice continental breakfast. Very pleasant owners. Highly recommended. No.
The mountain view facing the Eiger is stunning. We had our breakfast at the balcony, which was very relaxing, though it's a bit cool in the morning time. The room was small but clean and cozy enough.
The staff at the hotel was very freindly. The breakfast was good and sound and welltasting. It was quit and we slept good. The view from the terasse was exelent
Warm welcome and very helpful owners and staff. Good simple food - we ate at the hotel every night. Wonderful position - away from the centre of the town yet only a short walk away. Near the lifts and bus route and with an excellent bakery across the road for packed lunches. Best of all the magnificent views, Not really. It is on the road and there was some traffic noise in the day, but very quiet at night,
The warm welcome, the family oriented friendly hotel staff, the beautiful rooms, the relaxing and gorgeous views, the quaintness of it all. No hustle and bustle. Absolutely nothing to worry about when staying here. The breakfasts were perfect and the meals wonderful! Only a personal pillow issue: I should have asked for another pillow. They are too flat for my liking.
a little bit expensive, poor braekfast buffet no refrigiratorand no coffe/tea in the room
Well managed and very comfortable hotel with friendly staff. Our room didn't have Eiger view but large and good enough for a family with 2 young children. We had dinners on 2 nights at the hotel restaurant (open only for hotel guests) which can be highly recommnded.
To look out your window at the snow covered alps was awesome. The couple who owned the hotel were exceptionally gracious and very willing to take the extra step. We will stay there again. A little outside the main part of town but really no big deal.
The owners really made us feel very welcome, and went out of there way to accommodate us. We liked having breakfast and dinner at the hotel and found both meals were very good. We also liked the fact that the hotel was away from the busy downtown area.
The family running the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were nice and we had a great balcony with superb views of the mountains.
The location, staff, room and food were all excellent. We were very happy to have stayed here. No WiFi.
The owners and staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. The hotel is in a beautiful location and the rooms are large and comfortable. We ate dinner there one night and it was excellent and the breakfast was excellent also.
Beautiful huge room (superior double room) with awesome view of both the glacier and the Eiger. Staff were exceptional, helping out with tickets and information. Location a little out of the way from the 'centre' but still only a 10 min walk to the train station so highly recommended. wifi service was average, cutting out all the time and speed woeful, but to check mail and not surf online too much it did the job, when the signal worked.
Very helpful and friendly staff. Large room with terrace and great views of the Eiger. Good breakfast, Tea/coffee facilities in the room were much appreciated.
Every aspect of the hotel, including the breakfast, and friendly service by the staff, was as I had expected. No. We have stayed there several times. The Hotel was as expected
Excelent location for site seeing, the service and room were excellent, the breakfast amazing, paticulary loved the muesli and coffee.
Fantastic the views of the Eiger are breathtaking from the south facing rooms a good breakfast sets you up for a day in the Mountains a 10 minute uphill walk to the centre but it gets easier as the week goes on book it you will not be dissappointed
Skiing, ice skating. Family enjoyed the Cabana tabletennis table. The walk to the town centre
Good parking. Excellent location. Great views of Eiger from room. Good breakfast with fantastic muesli.
Very friendly staff. Excellent buffet breakfast, Location 5 min walk train station,100 yards ski bus stop. Manager and husband very accomadating. Highly recommended. Good value !!! none
Very nice rooms with balcony and beautiful view, nice breakfast. furniture could use an update (style is traditional but doesn't have to mean old). 10min walk from the station (and in the opposite direction of town center). way overpriced (but i guess all hotels in that region are that expensive?).
The room has a kitchen and a good view point of Eiger.
The hotel is very well situated. The rooms are very nice and the view is absolutely amazing! The breakfast buffet was pretty good. The free parking very interesting in this area.
The stunning views from the double room balconies are truly spectacular. Also the friendly staff were most helpful at all times. The restaurant was closed as it was off season.
view from balcony is hilarious, looking down whole grindelwald. and spacious bed and room. no.
View from the window of my room Free parking Free WiFi (works good, 4th floor) I would pay more (10-15CHF a day) to have a hearty breakfast The smell in my room was very specific and not very pleasant
