Pool area was really wonderful, as well as breakfast on the terrace Unfortunately, my husband was covered in Bed Bug bites after the first night. I don't feel that the hotel was dirty, just bad luck I guess
Cleaniness and comfort of the room The beach was not a natural one and the staff were rather "off hand" at times although this did not appear true for the guests that they knew better and who were staying longer
It was quiet and relaxing and Management was very helpful in assisting our travel arrangements from their hotel to Roma. Lack of air conditioning at night. The bed was very uncomfortable and we asked for it to be changed and it wasn't. This made our stay disappointing because of lack of sleep. When we arrived the check in staff didn't explain to us that we had to reserve a table each day for the evening meal, this was explained to us on the second night we were there and this made us feel uncomfortable, however they did accommodate us in the resturant.
It is in a peaceful area, and close enough to Portoferraio so that you can go into town at night if you want - if you are willing to pay for a taxi or have a car. It is very well serviced by public transportation - hardly at all in fact - so that if you want to go out to eat or head out at night, you have to pay for an expensive taxi ride both ways, or rent a car or moped. The hotel itself is fairly nice, although definitely not a 4 star hotel as it is advertised. It has a nice pool and a good breakfast.
This hotel was in no way of 4* quality The room was very basic and the hotel was too far away from the centre.
We both liked the situation of the Hotel together with the choice of beach or good size pool. It would have been an ideal base from which to explore the island if we had more time but overall we enjoyed our stay with you. Gracie
Location, grounds and swimming pool. Only stayed on B&B basis. Receptionist (female) was rude on arrival. Air conditioning in room allocated did not work - changed room after some persistence. Room furnishings not 4 star standard.
We really enjoyed our stay at ripe alte: beautiful place, far away, quiet, beautiful beaches, hiking. We hiked around, and went to the beach to cool down with a swim! The hotel has 3 private beach (you can take your pivate stuff and leave it at the beach). The national park was very beautiful, you can see mountain goats. If you love nature you will love this hotel! The way to the hotel was shocking, because the road was in a very bad condition. We need ca. 10 minutes from the nearest city (Capoliveri), but the view was breathtaking! We came perfectly at sunset (we saw the sun went down to the sea). There were many flies at the apartment, but we killed them all =) .. but this hotel is the only hotel in the middle of the national park , I think its normal to have living thing beside you.
It's remote feature made it perfect our get-away vacation. We enjoyed the variety of food, scenes, hospitality, convenience, etc. We stayed at one of the apartments which was more than enough space for my girlfriend and I, including a kitchen where we cooked breakfasts. We had a little terrace which overlooked a composition of sloping vineyard hills dropping down to the coast. The ocean view and Italian mainland beyond was absolutely unbeatable. The resort comes with a little market which has most of the things you'll need should you might need. The beaches were definitely comparable if not better than most of the ones we saw and visited along our island tour. Capoliveri is the closest town by which was by far, our favorite one. The resort is within an established National Park which means the only access roads are unpaved. Though in good conditions, you'll need a car to get there. We rented a car which worked out perfectly. We'd recommend the same.
Everything was great! We liked it a lot. Especially the stuff was friendly and very helpful. The location is about a few steps by the sea, so we felt the sea breeze with hearing the waves all the time. Nothing.
The restaurant was very good (a la carte at least). Very clean rooms. Could have good sea view but we had tree view. Very poor children facilities and the beach was unuseable. Car was a must.
Lovely swimming pool which was pretty quiet during the day as everyone seemed to go out on day trips. We had a big balcony at the far side at the top so it was quiet and we had a great view. Nice restaurant but book your table during the day for the evening. Last boat from Portoferraio was 6.30pm. There was only one restaurant in Maggazini which belonged to the hotel so no choice but the restaurant was lovely and had great live music one evening. Rooms are very basic so it was expensive for what you got.
Very nice staff, gorgeous location, decent to excellent food, clean rooms, value for money, peace and quiet, a pleasant pool with lots of loungers, and some enchanting ducksin the yacht harbour who liked to dine with us - the restaurant is on the quayside. They were all drakes, except for one female who turned up one day with three ducklings. There were also two quite seperate ducks from that lot, a black one and a white one, who were clearly deeply in love, were always together and performed an intricate mating neck waving ritual every now and then. So as well as a lovely setting there were things going on! And then there were the other guests. Not really, although maybe thehotel might run the occasional minibus to town should there be punters wanting to use it. Travelling by boat to Portoferraio was terrific, and takes about 30 minutes, but the day the weather stopped it coming (too choppy) presented a problem for non car users like us, But the hotel did take us and others to town in their mini bus so they solved the difficulty. The location is OK during the day for getting to and from, but if you take half board, have lunch, and decide to eat in townin the evening - because there are loads of nice places - getting back means a taxi,....and even a car would not help because one woudl be insane to drink and drive on Elba's roads. The island needs a better bus service actually.
Above all I liked the perfect location close to the sea and the very friendly and good staff. Also the hotels pools were nice. No
Staff were welcoming and helpful. Food was simple but fresh. Sea view was beautiful. It was a little chilly at night and the room wasn't heated, or at least I couldn't get the radiators to work. Staff did provide an extra blanket though! Also, not the hotel's fault, but there are no buses and the taxi collectivo is infrequent. Standard taxi costs over 20 euros to Portoferraio from Magazzini and there is no way to walk.
Position was excellent.
Quiet but central location and stunning views - being right by the sea. Reception staff and our waiter exceptional nice. The dining room which needed suttle lighting given stunning views and more willingness to allow resident guests to sit outside on the terrace [although we were 'allowed to'].Candles inside and out would give perfection to the setting. Maitre d could be friendlier.Perhaps a proper Bar with sitting area would have been good.
elegant hotel in a beautiful park with own beach, calm, although with some young couples with little children.Careful personnal and rich breakfast buffet ! Hotel is grossly overpriced due to its own beach, although the facilities (toilet and showers) badly need total restoration!! Nearby restaurants are at least 20/30 minutes walk so you either drive (and don't drink) or eat at home - we walked
The restaurant staff were exceptional. The Manager on duty was somewhat brash and had a difficult attitude.
The location is absolutely stunning and the staff very friendly. Everything is made so that guests don't want leave the resort and it's fair to say everyone can find a little bit of what they want. We really had a wonderful stay. I do think that the rooms located in the hotel need a refurbishment - the style is dated and I felt that for the price, one could expect a more contemporary, stylish and luxurious decor and feel.
good location (close to the main town). nice piano bar for a sunset drink not very nice beach: stones instead of sand. too pricy (drinks start at 9€), our room as over the kitchen which was quite noicy in the morning. tennis court pretty bad quality. food is very good but still mass production
The hotel staff was the absolute best here. He worked diligently to accommodate our needs and was helpful with information and recommendations.
Beautiful, secluded hotel, clean, huge room. Wonderful desk & restaurant staff, who spoke English. Breakfast and dinner with wine included in price. Exellent value! Close to beaches. Nothing bad to report........this was our favorite hotel of our entire trip!!!!! (well....the pillow was a tad hard)
Hotel Villa Ombrosa overlooks a pebble beach, with over the road, it's own area with deck chairs and sunshades.Very helpful cleaning and breakfast staff. A room without a view at the back is quieter than the front with the view. The lift goes from behind the stairs. I had to leave.
Friendly hotel, near centre of town, quite good food. Rooms giving on to the back garden have no balcony, no view and are somewhat dull. Try to avoid them. The hotel "beach" consists of two long concrete steps over the rocks and water, packed with deck chairs. There a re far more fun, sandy beaches elsewhere on the island.
close to the port, not noisy, not expensive I did not like food in this hotel. We had half board that was very bad decision.
It was superb. I was driving around Tuscany with no reservations for hotel stays and they were very accommodating. The hotel was beautiful.
The view from our seaside balcony was amazing, and the choices of foods in the dining room were simply delicious!
The beautiful sea bathing with easy access to La Paduella beach through the hotel garden. No fresh brioche at breakfast.
The hotel offers a very relaxed atmosphere, friendly and competent staff, wide selction of breakfast items and a convenient location. The soundproofing between rooms was somewhat lacking. The noises included the hair-dryer, the extraction fans and the flush from neighbouring bathrooms. The room were a little damp.
The room has a nice terrace with sea view The interior design of room and corridors need to be upgraded. TV needs to be changed
Fantastic staff! Okey breakfast but would be better with some eggs and less sweets. THE BEDS!!! We could feel every spring in our beds. Buy bed topp or change the beds.
was clean , free parking , big terrace, flower poor breakfast, cost rooms
Couldn't really tell if Americans were generally welcome here, but had a wonderful time nonetheless. I knew nothing about the island of Elba, but my girlfriend and I were visiting Italy for the first time and wanting a break from the city and discovered Elba during our research. Overall, the experience of being there was pretty majestic. I liked the private beach access, the pool, cleanliness, and the views around it. We would return, if welcome. The receptionist at the front desk was not all that welcoming.
Great view from room (if you have sea facing room), room was very clean & a good size (even with a baby cot added). Two nice swimming pools & some childrens play equipment for small kids. Beach area is nice (even though not much sand area) but plenty of decking and sun chairs & small bar area. Helpful, friendly staff & there's a nice village nearby with market/small village style shops & plenty of places to eat. Food at hotel was average but we were there the last week of the season so I think they were winding down?. We're glad we hired a car as nothing is really within walking distance (though I think this is the case wherever you stay on Elba). Overall - great stay!
The scenery was gorgeous The pools were too cold to use. heat them!! And the price was a bit spendy. You are basically paying for the view. The dinner was alot of money for what you got.
The Staff where extremely friendly and gave great recommendations on places to eat and visit. The private beach/decking is great with a good beach side restaurant. A really nice place to relax and unwind.
its in a very beautiful place very quite , romantic and clean . the rooms are very nice airconditioner working , tv LCD but mostly of the channels are payperview . food and breakfast good a bit expensive . some waiters need to learn how to talk to costumers because its an expensive place and they do not treat you well for what you pay . there who i forgot the name he seems to be the owner of the hotel very rude with a fake smile , the only reason they work there is because there are costumers who can afford the price to be there, so they need to respect more the costumer , some come to you speaking an English they do not ask if we speak Italian , a bit weird for me .
Very good localisation, nice sea view bad mattress too hard and not so comfortable
The view was lovely Parking is inconvenient -- up the hillside. Food choices were too limited -- one restaurant and dinner was only a 5 course meal at a prix fixe -- if you are not ravenous, you would have to overpay, or find another restaurant (which we did). Personnel was inflexible. Also did not like tour buses.
We stayed 4 nights at the hotel on a half board basis and found it to be a very good 4 star standard. The restaurant for breakfast and dinner was excellent with wines at reasonable prices and a wide choice of food. The leasure facilities were excellent - both the beach and the pool areas. Hotel location not great - not easy to walk to other places - and the room & balcony were both smallish although it was described as a junior suite with sea view.
Restaurant staff were excellent. Location was perfect. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. They were like sleeping on a brick floor. I like a firm mattress but this was way beyond firm.
The hotel was good - it doesn't have a great deal of individual character but we had a junior suite with an absolutely stunning view over the water. The room was huge, extremely clean and perfectly comfortable, service was efficient and friendly and the hotel beach and swimming platform was lovely. The meal times are quite early, so although we paid for half-board we didn't eat dinner at the hotel. I think this hotel is great for a couple who are looking for a lovely quiet escape, or for a family... in our case we would have liked a little more choice in terms of nearby restaurants and bars. Highly recommend having your own transport if you stay here.
The breakfast was good. Friendly staff. Would stay here again.
The hotel location was great- right on the water, you could see it across the bay when you got off the ferry. However, you need to have a car or scooter; otherwise you need to take a cab back and forth from the hotel to Portoferraio. The hotel was very nice- staff was helpful, pool and grounds were great. Breakfast was excellent for an Italian hotel. One thing we (young American couple) noticed was most of the guests were older German people on vacation. It wasn't a big problem, and perhaps it was because we were there mid-week, but we didn't see any other young couples the entire time we were there. Aside from that (and that is a minor complaint at best), we had a nice stay and couldn't have asked for much more, particularly for the price.
The location was excellent, one block from the beach. Park across the street. Staff was excellent, very friendly. The breakfast was good.
It was fine for the price. Facilities were basic but got a good nights sleep
Very nice rooms. Quiet at night. Parking facilities could have been better, but we knew that.
The friendly helpfulness of the staff The bathroom was too small to accommodate a person and a shower comfortably.
The multi-lingual staff were most helpful and the services enabled a comfortable and relaxing stay. I had to book a double room which was expensive for one but it was clean, comfortable, well air conditioned and had a balcony.
Hotel is near the seashore and near the city center There isn't a "real" shower box: you just have 3 movable plastic walls on the bathroom floor.
Excellent location. Great ambience. Friendly and helpful English speaking staff. Less than 1km from ferry. Parking may be difficult in high season, but was not for us in October.
The room was very small. The "sea view" from the terrace was actually a small glimpse - quite misleading. The smell of baking woke me up at 5.00am each day.
We liked the size of the rooms and the proximity to the beach.
Excellent seaside hotel. Close to beach but also convenient for town, port and bus station which enabled us to visit other towns on the island.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice garden, great terrace for breakfast and dinner. Although we were a couple, it was nice to be among a lively atmosphere of Italian families with small children. Our room was very small, and somehow managed to be hotter than it was outside. No way to ventilate without opening the door, and losing our privacy. I knew the room would be small, but since it was so hot, it became oppressive and sometimes it was impossible to sleep.
A very nice Tuscan style Villa with a lot of green and a beautiful panorama. The apartment was very nice and tidy, the kitchen had all the utensils we needed. The swimming pool was very clean and in very good shape. The Villa's personnel was very friendly and helpful especially because we arrived very late for the check-in. The villa is located very near the center of Porto Azzuro (10-15min walk). The cleaning fee at the end was too high, especially when you have to clean the kitchen yourself and take out the garbage yourself. The bed in the second room was very uncomfortable.
Extra "services" costs added up to 50% of total. Advertised 300m access to sea is a steep path through weeds and undergrowth and a machete is not supplied by the house. Children playground consists of rusty, dirty and unsafe equipment. Despite the high extra costs for cleaning and services, at check-out we where asked to carry our rubbish bags with us.
Well located, good service (incl reception advice on beaches), excellent restaurant for guests, large pool plus great gardens
The pool and the accommodation terrace This was a very expensive hotel and I expected at least a degree of luxury. The room was large and although clean and it was very simply furnished. The dining terrace and restaurant were fine but nothing special and the food was reasonable but not memorable - most of the dishes were precooked and the inferior wine arrived with the cork already extracted. This hotel is outrageously overpriced.
Quiet countryside location convenient for all parts of the island. Friendly helpful owners and staff.
