Pros: We had an amazing stay at Gerthrude’s B&B. The place is simply beautiful and located perfectly in the charming neighborhood of Santa Teresa! We really felt at home throughout our stay, thanks for your warm-hearted and kind hospitality! We’ll be back for sure!:-) Stephanie&Teresa
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Adriana is an awesome and well educated host. She speaks Englisch, German and Brasil. She cares a lot about her guest. Never had such a good breakfast with self made cake, yogurt and marmalade. Santa Teresa is a great location with flair. It feels safe and a Uber Is always right on the way.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: First of all thank-you Adriana and Christoph for sharing your home! We arrived very tired from a long drive and your home offered respite and comfort. Breakfast was a treat with a view to match. Bed and sitting areas comfortable; impressive views; well maintained small garden and pool (unheated); breakfast made with care and attention to quality; house has distinct private areas though much is open to use ; attractive decor; impeccably clean; no TV in room ...
Cons: Small details for client to have knowledge of: Parking is ‘on the street’ though booking comments that it’s free and elsewhere ( they could say street parking !). The house is on the Santa Teresa hillside so for elderly the number of steps may not suit those who are tired and/or infirm (We received help with luggage, thanks). Check out policy of 11am was early for us. Adriana agreed to midday. To date all properties in Brazil work on midday and extension to 1 or 2pm that has worked fine for this species of traveller :). Thanks
Excellent 10.0
Pros: From the moment you enter the hotel you feel you meet your new friend, Adriana , the owner of the hotel, makes you feel at home from the first minute. She will help you with everything to get you organized for your trip in Rio. Also she is good fun talking to. All the staff was very friendly, room was perfect, quiet and very good beds. Lovely breakfast with everyday a fresh new its at the table. In the neighbourhood you will find some nice restaurants and bars. it's save and it has a Bohemian feel to it. We couldn't have wished better. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay at your place!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: This is a classic house of Santa Teresa, lovingly refurbished with much of the original furniture. Adriana is the perfect hostess: a consummate professional who welcomes her guests as trusted friends. Excellent views of Rio, mountains and ocean. A very good breakfast is included.
Cons: Nothing comes to mind.
Excellent 10.0
Place itself has very good location just few steps from Escadaria Selaron and party hub Lapa, view minutes taxi drive to Corcovado. Santa Teresa is packed with amazing spots with good food and sounds of samba. Gerthrudes Bed and Breakfast is an experience beyond ordinary. Everything about this place is absolutely magical from the view to interior and last but definitely not least a host Adriana who makes you feel as a part of family and Gerthrudes guest house becomes your house. Adriana is a soul of the place extremely helpful and flexible in case of any changes. Me and my friends have fallen in love and we will be surely back.
Excellent 10.0
Great place to stay in Rio. Beautiful house near St Teresa bars and restaurants. The owner, Adriana is a wonderful friendly host, the house is perfect with a nice view of the city and the breakfast are amazing. She made us feel at ease instantly and explained which places to visit and which ones to avoid. Had a great chat too, she is very cool and sociable. This place is so unique and special. Breathtaking view, intimate, well-designed. Peacefull, comfortable place. Wonderful bedroom with open balcony. Have been to many places and stayed in many B&Bs, this place is one of the best. We absolutely loved Gertrudes. We couldn’t imagine a better way to start our Brazil trip. Would happily come back again.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: The hosts were so kind and accommodating. The house was beautiful and in a really great location in Rio. The breakfast was delicious. I was traveling to Rio with a friend and one day on the trip, we had to leave early for a tour. Our hosts offered to pack a small lunch to take with us. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and happy. We loved everything about the house and I plan to come back again with my husband.
Cons: Nothing bad to say for this one.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Just awesome place, highly recommended! The building is a real museum, everything is perfect! The owners are also very friendly and helpful! They served beautiful breakfast! Location is also nice, just five minutes from San Teresa. The taxi to SDU airport cost about 2.5 usd! Great place to stay!
Cons: You need to know that the toilet is not in the room, but in the hallway. If breakfast could be more varied from day to day, it would be great!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: We couldn´t have experienced Rio in a more authentic way! A beautifully renovated house built in the 1930s located in the bohemian neighbourhood of Santa Teresa allows you to feel the atmosphere of the historic streets of Rio. We highly valued the opportunity to relax in the garden to escape the rush of the city while still being in the heart of it. Moreover, the house was sparkly clean, the breakfast was absolutely delicious and the neighbourhood is very safe. We walked around in the evening to discover the streets around and we felt completely fine. Thank you guys for hosting us! We wish you best of luck in the future!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Our charming room, the delightful, delicious breakfast on the patio, the art everywhere, the tropical gardens, walking distance to an art museum, the lovely vibe of the neighborhood and most, the warmth of the proprietors.
Cons: Nothing to not like
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Quiet location, wonderful hosts (Guido and Francisco, and Blanca), delicious breakfast with freshly squeezed fruit juices. The house and garden are exceptionally beautiful and restored.
Cons: Using the television was a little bit tricky but we were able to figure it out! The house is gorgeous, however sound traveled easily within the rooms.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Guido and Fransisco are absolutely great! We felt welcome and looked after. The house is gorgeous and is set in a very nice part of Santa Teresa - with incredible views of Sugar Loaf and on a clear day Christ the Redeemer. The house is cleaned to a high standard every day and Guido and Fransisco are always around to help with any questions you might have. The breakfast in the garden is just special. A very personal touch on the food - and it really made our stay. Absolutely recommend!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: More quiet location, still very well connected but with a more authentic feel. The breakfast was wonderful and the staff very helpful. There’s a lot to do in the area and the house itself is extremely cozy.
Excellent 10.0
The house is old, but renovated in a very good way, so very comfortable. Gorgeous art interior and garden. Super comfortable and quiet. It is stylish and really beautiful, with wonderful interior and a garden with a huge view of Rio. The house is well situated in the historical area, within a walking distance from Rio center. And unforgettable, tasty breakfasts on the terrace with trees and flowers and a wonderful view - heaven. The owners are so kind and helpful, they went out of their way to make sure my stay was excellent. Nice neighborhood, to us it felt very safe. Excellent, beautiful property and owners, highly recommend
Excellent 10.0
Exquisite old house in a quiet area. Gorgeous art ,interior and garden. Super comfortable and quiet. The wonderful hosts made me feel very welcome in their outstanding house. Wonderful hospitality who could not have been more helpful and welcoming, helping us get oriented in our first time in Brazil. We had the suite which is amazing. Lovely design with a view of sugar loaf mountain from the balcony. The breakfast is absolutely marvelous with fresh juice and breads, unforgettable, tasty breakfasts on the terrace with trees and flowers and wonderful view. Magnificent views on the Santa-Tereza. Definitely recommend and most certainly I'll be back.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: the property is wonderful. great location. friendly staff, helped us with all our questions, reserved restaurants for us. breakfast was amazing every morning! you feel as if you are home with family.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: This place exceeded my expectations. The grounds were well-kept, clean, and immaculate - from the public spaces to the landscaping, everything was stylized and beautiful, breakfast was fresh, filling, delicious, and varied each morning, the room was very comfortable and stylish and felt more like a little flat, the hosts were incredibly accomodating and very much in-tune with their guests' needs, the location was walking distance from the Lapa but also to the very charming neighborhood of Santa Teresa, I can't wait to stay here again and highly recommend for anyone wanting to stay in the Santa Teresa neighborhood.
Cons: nothing!
Excellent 8.0
Pros: great pool, nice location, best breakfast in brazil, amazing garden
Cons: - view is good but towards the city. there are better views in Santa Teresa. - we could not do an early checkin despite that the hotel/ hostel was empty
Excellent 10.0
Pros: A beautiful, quiet property located in the middle of a tropical garden (jungle?) often frequented by little wild monkeys which we could feed by hand. Outstanding, plentiful breakfast filled with personal touch from the owners Gabriel and Claudio (e.g. our personal birthday cakes made by Claudio). Beautiful views over the downtown Rio, including the charming infinity pool. All was working perfectly (AC, wifi, hot water). We have received extreme support from Claudio and Gabriel, including expediting our covid test which was required for traveling back. Claudio has found and booked all the tours we wanted to take and had plenty of great suggestions. Wonderful place with such a nice, caring and hard working owners. Thank you so much Claudio and Gabriel!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Despite these uncertain times, both Gabriel and Claudio welcomed us into their oasis in the middle of Santa Teresa. The breakfast is the best we have had at any hotel/B&B - fresh fruit, smoothies, yoghurt, eggs, avocado, cheese, cake... The property has a lovely swimming pool, a fantastic view of the city and lovely hosts! You can also enjoy the entertainment that comes with hand feeding the Marmoset monkeys that live in the grounds. If you are in RIO then please support this independent business - it definitely lives up to its 9.8 rating on Booking.com.
Cons: There isn’t anything not to like.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: The breakfast was magnificent and the location ideal. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. The place is like a secret garden!
Cons: Would have been good to have complimentary tea and coffee available. Our room was also a little noisy but that’s because we chose to have windows open rather than aircon on.
Excellent 8.8
Pros: We loved this place! We stayed in the suite with the private pool. ( suite carioca) It definitely made our trip more special. It gives you complete privacy. The place is covered with greenery & plants. Has an amazing view of the city. The hosts decorated this gorgeous place with thinking of every little detail . The beds are extremely comfy it was a struggle to wake up :) Host and the stuff was such nice and caring people, they gave us great recommendations. And THAT BREAKFAST! You will feel like a king. You are being served with different china everyday one more beautiful than other. From eggs to fruits and cakes it has a huge breakfast . We were so full every morning but couldn’t stop eating cause everything was so yummy. Of course lets not forget about their cute dog Paco! Sweetest detAil of the place 💚 would not consider staying anywhere else! Highly recommended !
Excellent 10.0

Beautifully presented, all fresh hand baked & so much to eat. The hosts Claudio & Gabriel & Eli were helpful & informative. Paco the dog was also friendly & lovely to have around..! The property & gardens are very well maintained & attractive. So many beautiful birds & little monkeys in the trees it really is a very special place. We are so happy we stayed here. & it was the perfect location for Carnival under 10 minutes walk to Lapa arches.
Cons: Nothing! We couldn’t improve a thing thanks for a lovely stay :)
Excellent 10.0
Really beautiful position with excellent decor and ambiance. The dedication of the owners let you always feel very welcomed. Perfect helpful staff who go above and beyond what is in their job description. Very welcoming hosts and looked after us very well, film star treatment. They made us feel safe and comfortable during our stay. The rooms and the whole property are in a excellent shape and you feel that the owners take care of any little detail. Each has beautiful detail and the designs are outstanding. It is always a highlight to stay in Casa Geranio and receive the excellent breakfast. I would book definitely a second time at Casa Geranio.

Good 7.0
Pros: The staff were exemplary in their level of service. They will help with any request, offer advice on where to go, help with booking excursions and be your port of call if you need anything. Breakfast was good with a selection of fresh fruit, homemade cakes, coffee, juices and eggs to order. The location has a hippy vibe offering picturesque green hillsides and, if you don't mind some steep walks, great views of Rio.
Cons: The location, particular for a first time visitor, is fairly remote. So to get around and see the main sites you will need the metro-closest one is 25 mins by foot or Uber. The wifi signal was intermittent but I think this is common occurrence based on the geography. Also my bed matress was very hard making sleep difficult. The shower was lukewarm even when opting for cold showers.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: David and Lydia made us feel right at home. Held breakfast for us as we had late morning arrival. Make special arrangements to accommodate our special arrival and departure requests.
Cons: Nothing to dislike.
Good 7.0
Pros: Breakfast was perfect & plentiful and delicious. Rooms were large and spacious, clean bathroom. Feeling of security in the complex, Dave the manager was very knowledgeable & helpful and informative.
Cons: Poor lighting in the rooms.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: We enjoyed a free upgrade to a very nice room with views. Nice breakfast, good location, and a fun-to-hang-with host, David.
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Staff is very helpful and friendly, CCB is in a nice green street, area (Santa Teresa) is a little bohemian, away from the overly touristy beaches
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Friendly staff, tasty breakfast
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 10.0
Pros: I am so glad I booked this place. The neighborhood is awesome, the place itself very nice and the rooms cozy. What sets this B&B apart, though, are the people running the place. Every single person is very friendly and helpful. They would go out of their way to help. I was travelling alone as a woman, which means one needs to pay a little more attention to safety in Brazil. But Casa Cool Beans made it very easy. They also helped me to plan tours and my evening entertainment. This place definitely meets international standards. Everybody speaks English. Beautiful view from my room.
Cons: What you need to know is that the part of the city the B&B is in, Santa Theresa, is not well connected to public transport. However, the charm of Santa Theresa makes this worth wile. Also, cabs or Uber are very affordable. Personally, I prefer this kind of transport over public transport in Brazil, so I didn't feel inconvenienced at all.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Just come and enjoy
Cons: Just come and enjoy
Excellent 10.0
Great B&B all around, with fantastic owners. David, Lance, and Sergei were amazing hosts. They gave great advice on things to do each day, accommodating both our interests and the winter weather. They helped me with whatever I needed and suggested things to do that I wouldn't have known about. The place building is even more beautiful than the pictures, and we felt right at home. Fabulous guesthouse with a warm welcome and very helpful local advice. Plus the breakfast is great. I will definitely stay there again if I'm back in Rio. I can highly recommend the airport transfer with their driver Anderson, who was extremely polite and a capable driver.

Excellent 9.0
Pros: Great common area. Good location to explore centro, gloria, lapa and Santa teresa. Amazing staff! Great view of the city. Overall great vibe.
Cons: The room (the one with private bathroom) was next to the dinning room, so it was super noisy. Nevertheless, I am pretty sure that if I would have said something they would have change it. A bit far from the best beaches.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Breakfast was good! Barbara is great. Heart warming. Funny. Class A. The view is the added bonus!!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Our host, Barbara is the most attentive and adorable person I ever met. We were so greatful for her to guide us through everything . The place itself looks like an artistic loft, the rooftop terrace is unique and the views are amazing. The breakfast was also the best we had during our 2 months trip in Brazil. We loved the area, much more charming than Copacabana, we felt really in the heart of Rio. We ll be back 🙏
Excellent 10.0
Pros: - very lovely staff :) Barbara takes care of you very well! - very good breakfast - great little garden where you have a lot of sun until the late afternoon - very quiet street - good Wifi
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Nice location in the middle of Rio. Great place with balcony and garden city view. And the breakfast is extraordinary good for a Bed&Breakfast in Brazil. Steffen

Okay 5.0
Pros: Location
Cons: Check-in and specially the check-out process. Need to be improved, so people don’t wait in line while rushing to get their flights.
Excellent 10.0
Apart from being very close to the SDU airport this hotel was very welcoming making sure I could manage with my young children and we had a comfortable stay, breakfast was very good, a member of staff even walked us to the airport helping with my bags as it’s so close, looking forward to our next stay.
Excellent 10.0
Location of the hotel was good being close to the centre of Rio De Janeiro. Also there are trams within walking distance which will take you to the centre. The hotel is part of a mall and has direct access to the Santos Dumont Airport. Great option for a short stay or a business trip in Rio. Personnel was friendly and helpful. Special thanks for Dilma and Thiago at the reception. The room has a modern boutique concept with comfy bed. Nice view from my room on the third floor facing the Guanabara Bay, Sugar Loaf and the Corcovado statue at the hill top. Pleasant breakfast experience at the Roof top where the swimming pool is located. Will return on my next stay in Rio
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Easy in and out

Pros: Breakfast (big choice). Staff. Location.
Cons: Homeless people next to hotel
Excellent 10.0
Pros: This place is excellent beautiful rooms beautiful view loved it
Good 7.0
Pros: The breakfast was nice, we also appreciated the proximity to the American consulate.
Cons: My spouse and I started getting allergic to something in the room (we think it was the towel's starch). The hotel didn't have the hypoallergenic room, regardless of it being advertised. We found the neighborhood wasn't all safe after dark, and we didn't risk walking.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Breakfast was great, great options and really good staff.
Cons: There was some miscommunication about the coffee. I was told they had a complementary coffee (cup) but when asked about they wanted to charge. Also, the bed could use an upgrade.

Excellent 9.0
Pros: Great location, just 10 minutes walking to airport. Great service, free luggage store. Great breakfast starting in 6 am!
Cons: WiFi does not work in room :(
Excellent 10.0
I was for the second year in a row. It has a very good location for those arriving and departing from Santos Dumont, near the center, Marina da Gloria, etc. Despite this, it is advisable not to walk around before 8 am or after 6 pm. The staff that works is warm and attentive. The hotel is located a few meters from the airport so it makes it very convenient if one has an early morning flight. It is located so close to the airport that I chose it because of the proximity to the return flight. It does not serve to use as a base to go to the beach. It has a small restaurant that closes at night and a bar open almost exclusively for drinking 24 hours.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Acomodações.
Cons: Confirmações de reserva.
Excellent 10.0
The huge smiles & warm welcome from the Receptionist & staff set the tone, right from the very start, and they were all so helpful & courteous. Outstanding location, 5 minutes walk to Santos Dumont airport. Typical low IBIS price, which is hard to find nowadays. Close to Cinelandia train station which is a good way to get to Ipanema beach. Clean and functional. The room was clean and it was easy to check into the hotel. The area was quiet so I had a good nights sleep after a long journey. The best mattress and pillows in a hotel ever. Everything worked out very well.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: Front Desk Courtesy & Location
Cons: n/a
Good 7.0
Pros: Catien in the reception welcomed us. She handled our stay in hotel, our tour in Rio. She was really helpful and cheerful
Mediocre 2.0
Pros: the novohotel has down grade the quality of the rooms, common area and breakfast. breakfast very poor and very expensive Old rooms, air condition in common areas off during Summer. Air condition of the room broken, not working. The walls, sofa and curtains were with marks. Very old, noisy and uncomfortable bed and pillows.
Cons: bed, old rooms, bed was BAD
Okay 5.0
Pros: Very good location for connecting flights at Santos Dumont Airport or business in the city center.
Cons: Rooms are outdated and in need of refurbishment (showers for example). Would say it is a good 3 stars level, but definitely not 4. Was expecting a bit more from a Novotel. Location is not good for touristic visits to the city.
Okay 4.0
Pros: All Staff very kind. Safe was not working but staff came prompty and quickly fixed it. Price ok. Breakfast decent with quite few choices.
Cons: Room on the first floor was noisy. Noise coming both from the inside of the hotel (elevator and music) and from the outside (late evening music concerts). Sub optimal acustic protected windows and walls. Bad smell from fried food coming from nearby kitchen. That was the worse factor of my stay. Shower not working properly. Insufficient lights in the bathroom. Service at the bar very slow.

Excellent 9.0
Pros: Good 3 star hotel with excellent location. Close to shopping, Metro is 100 meters away and you can walk to the Santos Dumont airport. HUGE breakfast that can keep you full to late afternoon.
Cons: No English TV channels. Lock on door feels not safe. Few staff speak English.
Mediocre 3.0
Pros: The staff...
Cons: Everything else...
Good 7.0
Cons: I did not like much of the internet. It is really slow.
Good 7.0
Pros: Location is perfect, price is good including basic breakfast
Cons: Service is only in Portuguese, no English or Spanish. Impossible to communicate with the staff. Hotel is very basic, as expected from the price.nobody cleaned our room for 2 days although we asked.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: The location is perfect. The staff is very helpful. The rooms are clean and the ones situated around the patio are very quiet (but obviously without a view). The streets around the hotel become rather festive during carnaval. Breakfast is good. I enjoyed my stay at Itajuba and would definately book there again.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Room service was excellent and at a great value for money.
Cons: The air conditioning system was old and did not work properly

Excellent 9.0
Pros: The staff is very educated people.
Cons: Nothing. Everything is good. The pandemia situation is the matter, not the hotel
Poor 1.0
Pros: Honestly, nothing
Cons: When we got there there was no place to park to check in and when one of us ran in to ask they basically said (very rude) you can take your chances of getting a ticket or you can go find parking somewhere and walk back with your suitcases. Yet they call them selves business!
Okay 5.2
You can get tempted by the location and good rates, but this is not a hotel I would recommend. Dirty rooms, black mold in bathrooms, no security at entrance, noise from neighbours, elevator stopping, so 19 floors full hotell on only one elevator at most times, horrible breakfast, no service, shower with little pressure and even less hot water. My stay here got cut short because of all this. The lack of comfort and ability to sleep in this shitty hotel made me move to Ibis centro that was ten times better, so my advice is STAY AWAY from Atlantico business.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Good value for the money, the place is pretty good. Staff at the reception is nice, they do speak english, breakfast was great, wi-fi working good, the terrace at the last floor has a really cool view for a hotel in the center.
Cons: The room was not cleaned in 3 nights of stay. If you need to leave your luggage at the reception before the check-in or after the check-out, they charge 30R for that, for multiple luggages. At the check-in time, which is 2PM, is only one person working at the reception and is full of tourists (they have 3 computers for check-in). You can wait at least 1 hour before you get into your room.
Excellent 9.6
Pros: The breakfast was amazing.
Cons: Outside the location nearby , lots of homeless people and very dirty and scary to walk alone.
Excellent 10.0
Excellent hotel, comfort, courteous and polite attendants. breakfast with plenty of variety. the price of the room was very good, well below the market and with quality. Great location and rooms with comfort and clean. small pool on the terrace but very inviting for a relax. The hotel is old but its facilities are relatively well maintained. I stayed in a room on the sixth floor overlooking an internal courtyard with other windows. I think the room with windows facing the street should look better. The breakfast is very good, but as the hotel always has a lot of people, it gets a bit slow to replenish the food. The pool area is nice but very small. The internet worked well. As for cleanliness, I found it satisfactory.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 10.0
Perfectly located in the historical center, which is walkable to Lapa area was superb Value for money, clean room and big bathroom. The view from terrace is fantastic A beautiful break first buffet. Everything was really just fine. Marcelo was particularly helpful in giving us advice on how to get to the various attractions and it really helped that his English is so good as our Brazilian Portuguese is almost nil. The breakfast was superb, everything, including healthy stuff such as Aromatized Water and Detox Juice. Overall it's a fantastic experience. Nothing to complain about.
Excellent 9.7
The location of the hotel was great if you are staying in the Centro area, close to the SDU airport, the reception staff were friendly and spoke good English. The rooms were clean and tidy, everything worked as they should, breakfast was great and variety was impressive, good views of the city from the roof top.

Excellent 8.0
Cons: WiFi
Good 7.0
Pros: I did like the bed. It was kind of comfortable. Simple, and the sheets smelled great, other than other hotels in that area
Cons: the place the hotel was in. It was Rio, and there's a lot of criminals around. I felt like the property wasn't safe enough, and then I couldn't get to sleep.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Close to Rio the Janeiro Downtown.
Cons: The room was not in the hotel, but in a building besides it. The building was old, but the room very clean and new.
