easy to find, polite stuff, nice experience
easy to find, welcoming staff clean with everything i needed nothing
Breakfast, cleanliness and facilities (hairdryer) Shower attachment not high enough
Excellent breakfast very clean and modern excellent location Bad position to find restaurants
New hotel, efficient, clean, much nicer than some of the ie formulae one / etaps , which are just a bit too basic for us.Accepts dogs, and good place to walk .very security conscious.very comfy bed No English lang Sat channel. Just one news would be ok !
The location and site. Dinner in the restaurant was poor value for money. The accommodation was also expensive.
Peace and quiet, weather and the walks to the town. Sunbathing by the pool although far too cold to get in. No air-conditioning in our room.
Great location. Lovely grounds. Good path walk into the town along the sea front. Great views from our room. Kitchenette was miniscule but had the basics. We thought it was a little overpriced for an "apartment". 10 Euros extra charge for each dog
The Hotel is set in the most beautiful surroundings and with outstanding views poor breakfast food cold and although a dog owner object to sharing my meals with other people's dogs
The hotel had an excellent location and lovely grounds and swimming pool. Infestation of mosquitos and flying ants which delivered bites at night. Our telepnone rang with one or two rings at 1.45 and 5.30 am which wakened us. The bedroom furniture and bedding was not up to the standard we were paying for.
Beautiful setting, lovely grounds, good facilities - infinity pool overlooking the sea, tennis. Very relaxing and comfortable stay. Short (15 minutes) panoramic walk into the delightful port of St Jean de luz. Buffet breakfast was not kept warm.
a superb hotel. pretty new, stylish and quiet. located 20min walk from the center of the town on a cliff. Great views of nature.
The setting was very peaceful & the views lovely.
View from room. Staff unhelpful, poor poor breakfast, no atmosphere in hotel , very poor bar bright lights . Service poor generally disliked hotel. Also put of way from town.
Central location and old-world charm The attic bedroom - it didn't fit round a 1m80 man very well !
just a short walk from the beach advertised that it was waterfront when in fact it was not. Staff seemed stressed out & hurried. door locked at night & needed a key to get out. Difficult if there were an emergency. rooms near the front door were affected by the noisy front door when guests were coming in at all hours of the night.
It was in a really good position near the beach, not too noisy but close enough to shops and restauarants etc. It is family run and they were helpful. It was reasonably priced because St jean-de-Luz is a delightful but rather expensive town. The hotel arranged parking in the public car park just around the corner at €8 a day - very convenient. The hotel could do with some repairs and smartening up. There is no indoor cafe or restaurant area, only in the courtyard and mornings are quite chilly for sitting out by mid-September.
We had a good stay just steps from the sea and all the small city's shops and restaurants. The room was small, but we had what we needed. As there was only a twin room left when I booked, the staff of the hotel built the bed in a 'double', so that was very kind of them. It was a very nice little holiday in charming, lovely St. Jean de Luz.
Nice building, close to beach Room was very small and facilities (no hairdryer) are old, which woud be okay if it was cheaper. Windows looked onto wall. Price was anounced as special offer, but was normal for the season; higher price was for high season, which has been long over. Breakfast was not in Hotel but in a bar (but with friendly service if a bit expensive), I was told about this after I payed. The lady put taxes for 2 persons on the bill even though I was alone. I wouldn't have stayed, if I had not already made reservation.
location to beach and biarritz ,airport and major road not user friendly in room and lack of confortable seating, bathroom not user friendly and lack of storage space, this place need a face lift it is showing its age...also we did not get the room that was reserved for us altough we had book the room 6 months in advance, we had paid 500 euro to upgrade to a two bedrooms, we were not very happy
Brand new building - tres chic - avant garde to a fault. Expansive common areas exquisite. Helpful and pleasant reception staff. Excellent facilities in room we had; big refrigerator, micro wave, DVD, stereo, etc., but no English TV (seemingly infinite number of French and Spanish channels). Parking adequate, but unsecured. Close to beach. Good wifi, but make sure it works on check-in; ours only worked the day after we arrived, due to some lag in setup. Not inexpensive, but reasonable value for price, and worth risking deposit. We were in the hotel in late April, but temperature was 32C, and air conditioning was not operational. With only a duvet, sleeping was difficult. Beds somewhat soft. Not really set up for p't't dej, expensive and very basic - go to fast food place on beach. Limited reception hours, desk closed at 5 PM. As another reviewer has indicated, the hydrotherapy bathtubs can be a challenge to get into and out of.
the man who greeted us on arrival was very friendly, spoke English extremely well and was very helpful. The room was spacios, clean and very inviting. On leaving we were given wonderful advice on places of interest along our journey. Will definately return. thank you
A beautiful location, away from the "maddening crowd, with a lovely ambience. Loved the decor with a touch of the best of Indonesia ; great for those who love the sea and surf (also golf). Very welcoming and helpful consierge. None.
We like everything There is no shoping around.
Outstanding contemporary design and appearance. Friendly assistance from staff. Whilst there was an lovely spa bath in the room it was difficult to operate as there were no instructions. A shower would have been desirable. These small details demonstrate what a high standards this hotel offers
Good kitchen facilities withi the studio No obvious way to enter the parking upon arrival - we had to ask another guess to let us in. Could not check out until 8 am. Strange and cold atmosphere. No lift.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The accomodation and location were pleasant and peaceful .Comparatively very good value .
I was very impressed with the ambiance of the hotel, the atmosphere etc. No I liked everything about the hotel.
Very nice accomodation in a quite area just a short walk from the beach. Rooms all very modern and clean and comfortable Could have done with a supermarket within walking distance
The hotel was clean and was quietly situated but convenient for restaurants, shops and golf. Nothing
Everything, first class hotel. Staff helpful and friendly. Good location. Old world charm and character about the hotel building. Everything was excellent.
Beautiful old building that was unfortunately still under renovation. Many parts of the hotel were showing signs of age (the pool for example), but they were actually the mid-century additions or fixtures. I'm curious to see the hotel after the renovations are finished.
Good location with good parking. None
Well placed and a very good hotel. The room we had was excellent Bathroom in the suite was not good. The bath was too narrow and shower door inadequate meaning that when using the shower it sprayed everywhere which made it a safety hazard. It would not stop me using the hotel again.
Staff were most helpful, polite & courteous We weren't advised before the stay that works were being undertaken at the hotel, the hotel was enclosed in scaffolding, our room therefore had no views.
Go to beach
The room was spacious, well equiped and very comfortable.
Location over looking both Biarritz La Phare Golf course and Biarritz coast. Clean and quiet swimming pool. Great service. 20 up hill walk back from centre of Biarritz. Cost of drinks - 9 Euros for 50cl Biere.
The very pleasant receptionist made us welcome. The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The restaurant well appointed. Could have had more in the way of toiletries in the bathroom but this a minor point.
Friendly, polite and helpful. Good buffet breakfast and evening meals. After the first night the spare toilet roll and the plastic cups were removed, also the shoeshine block was not replaced after being used and disposed of.
Restaurant and pool area very nice, good food in the restaurant. A little way out of town by car Rooms were a bit shabby and no air con or fan
Good location, very clean, excellent food, lovely patio at the back Both room and bathroom were quite small and only one pillow each provided
Good restaurant for dinner & breakfast The description "1km from town" should more accurately have been 2km from the centre
Was good value although room small but with free parking it gave us the opportunity to explore the area
It wasn't noisy at night. Staff were pleasant. Hotel is too far from town - 2kms. It is very worn and tired, needing a renovation if it wants to keep 2 stars next to its name. Room in eaves meaning you couldn't stand upright on one side of the bed - where the luggage rack is kept too, which was a nuisance. Bathroom is small and badly designed - can't sit on the toilet with the door closed unless you are under 6 years old.
It was well located. There was little cupboard space in the room.
Staff very efficient and welcoming.
1) The central location in St Jean de Luz, you walk out of the hotel and into the shopping street, two minutes walk from the Louis XIV Place with several Cafés and restaurants. 2) Comfortable bed. 3) nice bathroom and excellent towels. 4) I guess it was the owner and his wife who were very helpfull to arrange a taxi to go to the restaurant in Ciboure. 1) Acces to the hotel by car and drop-off bags before parking the car. 2) No airconditioning and even in October far too warm in the room. 3) As the hotel is very central, with open windows it was a bit noisy especially early in the morning. 4) Breakfast is overpriced (which was not included in the room price).
A brilliant location and conformtable, well decorated rooms No - parking is a small challenge but manageable and inevitable in this town
A charming, small hotel in perfect location for "doing" St Jean de Luz. Rooms very comfortable and very clean. N/A
A great deal of thought and attention to detail has gone into this hotel. The towels and bedlinen were luxurious and the bathrooms spotless.
Beautiful location overlooking a very pretty French square. Well placed for the beach and the town. Room small but perfectly adequate with a lovely balcony onto the square. Good modern bathroom. Very helpful owners. Recommended for couples.
Being in the center of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, it was an easy walk to good restaurants, the beach and other attractions. Trying to drive to the hotel. Hotel is on pedestrianized street so visitors should not drive to drive to the hotel.
The room and everything in it was sloping. Very uncomfortable and disorientating. The hotel was not full but the hotel allotted what must be the worse room. The bathroom was like a not very nice antique and the noise from outside the hotel horrendous-no soundproofing no double glazing.I feel sorry for anyone staying here longer than one night. One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Depressing experience and worst value for money.
Excellent location and friendly service.
location Facilities too basic
Location was good and the price was reasonable. Loved the old fashioned lift. Comfortable and relaxing although it was disappointing that on my second night I was told that the hotel bar was closed. Although it was two in the morning the hotel information pack clearly said that it was always open.
Being so central
Location and excellent breakfast buffet The room had a slanted floor which translated into a slanted bed - akward sleeping....parking facilities not far away but you needed to collect from and return to the front desk the gate's opening card each time you used it .
We found all was very good. The car parking in the allocated place was rather difficult but all in all it started off our holiday well.
The location of the hotel was very good The room was quite small and dark considering it was supposed to be 'superior'.
Great location. Right in the heart of Bayonne. Could walk to everywhere from the hotel.
Friendly owners, happy to assist in any way; local attractions, directions, local knowledge etc. This charming family also run a Breton style restaurant serving Breton cuisine. Breakfasts were very good quality and value. Rooms were serviced and tidied daily and always impeccable.Convenient location in a charming town with something going on in town most nights. Nothing.
The room was bright and airy and the owners very friendly. Situated in the middle of the little town it was easy access to restaurants and only a short drive from a large supermarket. The hotel was not as close to the beach as described.
The hotel was clean and quiet and comfortable; generally the staff were lovely, particularly the proprietor's son, who was very friendly and went out of his way to help, even booking taxis etc. The hotel itself was perfect, but the proprietor was quite gruff with us on the last two nights of our stay. He was not at all friendly, telling us only to make sure we had checked out by eleven the next morning, not even asking us if we had had a pleasant stay. His aggressive attitude gave a sour taste to an otherwise relaxed and agreeable stay.
Friendly & accommodating staff; accommodation was large and user friendly; half hour drive to Spain & other villages & hamlets in the Pays Basque.
Very central to Bidart centre. Clean and welcoming. Great to have parking at reasonable price. None
The accommodation had excellent facilities and was spacious. The owners were very helpful. The hotel was situated in the centre of the village and was close to several restaurants of excellent quality.
Good location, welcoming hosts. Well decorated, clean and spacy rooms. Parking next to hotel (free between 19.00-09.00). If room faced to the street - it can be rather noisy.
location and staff really helpful
Helpness and friendliness of proprietor and his wife
A beautiful hotel in a very convenient location, very friendly and helpful owners, room was perfect - clean and beautifully decorated. We would certainly go there again.
Design and room Service could be better. For example there was no way of getting a drink of water at night.
Well situated for beach, dining and sightseeing
Comfortable and clean with pleasant staff
large bright room, perfect for a good sleep no
Very clean and tidy. Nice decor. Quite noisy with the window open at night.
When we arrived the receptionist was immediately aware of our reservation. She also offered to book a taxi for us for an early departure the following morning. The location of the hotel was only a short walk to the beach and shops etc.
The hotel is very centrally located and in walking distance to all areas of interest in Biarritz. The staff at the hotel were most welcoming and courteous. We found the rooms to be very comfortable, clean and well decorated. All in all a lovely hotel! Because of the hotels central location ,it can be noisy early in the morning with delivery trucks etc. However, if I am in the area again I will definitely stay at the Alcyon.
a decent hotel, a few blocks back from the beach, smart yet small room, average breakfast.
Welcoming staff, modern clean design, fantastic location. We had a fantastic stay. it took a few minutes to walk to the main beach or the shops. great
Cheap. Room did not had a toilet.
Quick check-in with helpful staff. Rooms small and well worn. Bathroom adequate if small. Room had not been cleaned out properly and sheets were dirty. Hotel slightly further from town centre than we had expected.
Close to city centre. Very expensive and I wouldn't recommend the hotel to my friends.
This is a casual place to stay. Walls are thin.
Price Location - a bit too far away. Room needs decorating. Staff pretty miserable.
Price Not the cheeriest of staff but adequate
It's location. Cleaness. Good if you want just to sleep. Very basic. It needs to be somewhat reformed. The hair dryer was not eficient at all.
There was an option of secure parking for an extra 9 euros per day, which was just opposite the hotel. The hotel has character, but it is old and requires some improvements. The breakfast buffet for 8.50 euros was poor. For a continental style meal, it lacked any meat or cheese. The orange juice was watery, the whole meal was a disaster.
The location was good. Short walk to beach and shops and restaurants. Bedlinen was clean as were the towels. Our room was small and badly in need of decorating.right on main road very noisy at night.i do not think this hotel rates 2 stars. We will go back to biarritz but not to this hotel. The hotel needs a total makeover . dark and dingey.
Lovely hotel, really enjoyed the stay. Great value
The apartment was spacious and clean. The pool was great for the children. A play area and some grass for children would have been nice. More communal irons.
Staff were friendly and helpful The bed(s) were not made up on arrival
large comfortable, clean and quiet rooms with very practicle kitchen. Close to shope and motorway and private indoor parking facilities.
Very helpful staff and eager to please Hotel is located by an intersection - noisy all day and in particular at night (mopeds) plus a minor thing but the curtains in the room were too small and thus left a gap in the middle (about 10inches wide) when pulled. Rather annoying.
good staff disposition. The bathroom is horrible, with the WC in a separated room.
It was close enough to the town. Good facilities. Spacious apartments. Helpful staff. There was no bar.
Accessible & clean. No, all OK.
Near to town. Near to Golf Course. Concern about no apparent staff presence between 20.00 hours and 08.00 hours in case of emergency.
It was clean, close to the town of St Jean de Luz and it was quiet at night The laundry room was not open long enough hours
Nearness to St Jean de Luz\ and swimming pool Beds a little unconfortable
The receptionist on arrival (carol) was very helpful and spoke english willingly, other staff struggles with english but she helped out. The room was well maintained and the Power shower was the best I have experienced anywhere - fantastic! Food was reasonable and well prepared. Parking was free and the hotel was easy to find. Bar facilities were difficult ro understand - we ended up only ordering drinks with our Meal, maybe I didnt understand the set up and should have asked?
Excellently run, newly refurbished and clean throughout, food service good, especially for an en route autoroute location
The restaurant was good, meals delivered quickly. Good variety of menu to choose. Staff pleasant. Beds comfortable. bathroom facilities very good. It's a very good choice for young families
Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Excellent food. We arrived at 1600 hours. Dinner commenced at 1900 hours. There was a small outside seating area, where it would have been nice if we could have purchased a beer/wine instead of having to wait until we were eating.
Easy to find, standard Campanile hotel.
A basic, practical, no frills, hotel for the business traveller. A basic but good restaurant. Rooms are too small and for upper floor guests there is no lift or any offer of assistance with luggage. Sound from adjoining rooms easily pentrates.
nice place, good restaurant
A convenient budget hotel with facilities that lots of more expensive hotels do not have and they let us check in 2 hours early Nothing
I did not have any serious problems with the hotel although it was in need of redecoration, the staff were fine. Only the price was a problem. Campanile hotels in general are overpriced, the rooms are not really large enough to accomodate three people in comfort.
Kettle in room and a great shower The only problem was that there was no breakfast available at 9:30 as the croissants, bread and coffee had finished!!
The staff and the quests. wi fi access was not available in the room and the process of connection seemed complicated.
nothing the so called suite was small room and very very overpriced hotel is very shabby bahtroom was modernized only good thing
Great location just on the beach. Valet parking was excellent. Nice Aircon. A very comfy bed with a duck feathered mattress. We decided to pay for the entertainment package on the tv which stated that we would get free internet service with this. Its false advertisment as you have to buy credit for the wifi.
Lovely hotel with very comfortable and well equiped rooms, and a fantastic location right by the beach. The terrace is a great place to have a relaxing before dinner drink. Having to pay to use the pool.
a nice building in a quite area next to the centre with a good ocean view nothing is included in the over priced rates, for example breakfast 26 euro, garage 20 euro, pool and sauna 30 euro
the way we were greeted on arrival. a little rushed to dinner
This is a beautiful luxury hotel in a perfect location on the beach in Saint-Jean-de-Luz. The service was extremely friendly and professional. Though the spa is beautiful, it could use a somewhat larger and better equipped fitness room. It would be nice to have a price for a room with breakfast included.
Glorious view Nothing, but bath could be difficult for some
The hotel's fantastic facilities made the short stay quite memorable. Eating at the hotel's restaurant was a highlight of our stay. The room we had was excellent although quite small. I knew it was one of the standard rooms, but have stayed in better for an equal or lesser price.
Having visited St Jean de Luz before I have always wanted to stay at the hotel and it met all my expectations. Thank you. Was disappointed the Restaurant was closed for Dinner.I Hope to revisit . No
Convenience to center. staff frienliness
We were placed in a corner room with views from two sides; we could awake in the mornin g to the sound of the surf. Wonderful experience in a very nicely appointed room. Breakfast seemed on the pricey side!
Grand old hotel in wonderful position, maintaining its historically high standards. Some confusion about the two restaurants, which seem to share the same dining room but offer different menus.
Entrance to the Hotel was fabulous as were all the communal areas The room we were issued was in need of repair and re-decoration
I liked my staying in the hotel. Good lacation.
Pool area , bar and restaurant are excellent. Our room was small and the bathroom was dated.
Everything, the rooms are luxurious, the staff is professional and friendly, the building is beautiful. The best of European hospitality. And the food...glorious!!!
location and view from dining room place is showing its age, and its cost for rooms and meals are far too high. breakfast for 1 person was 50 euro, about $60 USD. the ocean view room i reserved from kayak was $550, and the only view of the water was from a side window; you had to right up next to the window to even see the water or beach. when i complained, they said that since you can see the water from the window, it qualifies as ocean view. we got misled from the check in girl as to when our room would be ready, and got fast double talk as to what happened. there also appears to be some wiggle room between what we learned about the room from kayak and what the hotel provided. kind of a bait and switch. we won't be back.
Convenience of location and friendliness of staff
Lovely old biulding. Accommodation a bit quirky, but we like that. Very handy for the centre of St Jean de Luz which we have visited many times over 25 years. First time in a hotel in town and not dissappointed No
The rooms were charming and we found the service to be friendly and helpful.
Beautiful antique decor, comfortable beds, extremely friendly and welcoming staff, convenient location
very helpful staff
Our hosts were very helpful and accommodating. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the rooms. This is a grand old hotel, kept very clean, with an old world lobby that would have been nice to spend time in had the weather not been so excellent! There were no surprise charges. The Wi-fi was not compatible with my North American Windows notebook despite my best attempts (and I work in the business). There was no technical support available to confirm settings. However, the lobby computer worked fine and was generally not busy during this shoulder season stay.
A nice slean hotel with a plesant ambience and good location
Nothing No parking available; impossible to sleep with window open and no air conditioning
This was a comfortable hotel which I will certainly stay at again. It is conveniently situated a short walk from the port and beach. It is easy to get to from Biarritz airport. There are signs of upgrading since my last visit (10 yrs. ago) - a large plasma TV and a just delivered minibar that I filled with m yorange squashes et. -
Receptionist fluent in english, mature and helpful
This hotel was a gem for the price a simple motel in a good area with lots of bars and resturants the staff were very friendly rooms simple and clean breakfast ok we had a dog with us and they were very helpful and friendly with her to
Good parking. Clean. Easy to find and restaurant, bars and shops close by. easy access to the coast and golf courses. No air con. and noisy with the window open.
The staff were very pleasant, polite and attentive. The hotel location was very good for Bayonne, Biaritz and San Sebastien
Location just far enough away from the motorway to be peaceful; close to restaurants and bars.Hotel had a spacious feel on arrival. Staff friendly. Good value for money. Room a bit spartan - one small stool to sit on and shower a bit cramped.
THe hotel is well run, clean and welcoming. The staff were very organised and quickly made one feel welcome. Breakfast was well presented and of good quality
The room was comfortable and clean and served our purpose of an overnight stop adequately. No
great location for a stop when driving from Spain to England not great signposting
The restaurant just outside the hotel was very good and not too expensive.
Easy check in secure car parking Too basic, TV had no international news channel very poor signal. Only a stool to sit on in the room. Towels very small.
Excellent value and convenient for bus stops (with excellent services to Biarittz, Bayonne and St Jean). Free parking which appeared reasonably safe. Television very high. You cant check in until 5pm (whereas anyone without a booking can use the external machines to get in straight away if rooms are available). It is a long walk from the airport - other value hotels are closer.
Location and ocean-side views over-priced food and drinks
It was a lovely 10 minute walk along promenade into town centre, a walk we enjoyed a couple of times a day! Also spa in hotel was really nice. Beds were huge and really comfortable. Had a great weekend in Biarritz!!
The location of the hotel is excellent, overlooking the beach and not too long a walk to restaurants. Pool area is excellent. Room very comfortable. Food and drinks in the hotel are very expensive.
The location was superb right on the sea front . Rooms quite spacious with comfortable beds and bedding. The indoor and outdoor pools were heated with plenty of sunbeds
beds were comfortable Reception staff were good at check-in. Concierge staff make a very good effort waited 15 minutes for valet to get my car, while other guests were more important. during this time, one valet was loading another guests car, another was told by the reception to take bags to a room, although I had pointed out that I had been waiting for my car for a long time. food was extortionately expensive. breakfast quickly became boring. room service most expensive, and most limited I have ever come across. we once tried to have lunch at the hotel, but despite asking the restaurant hostess to point out to the staff that we had been at our table for a long time, with no service, we eventually just left, having not had our order taken, and run out of time in our schedule.
