The Old Golf House Hotel - Huddersfield - Building

8.1 Excellent (1,415 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Huddersfield, The Old Golf House Hotel is in a rural location, within a 10-minute drive of Greenhead Park and Magic Rock Brewing Co. Ltd. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Accommodated early arrival (11:00am) from Airport after overnight flight. Friendly, cheerful, and very helpful staff. For us this is the primary thing that defines the hotel as a place we'll return to when in the area. Located close to M62. Excellent green space in hotel grounds.
Cons: Accommodations fairly dated but kept well maintained and clean. Quite a bit of ongoing renovation in the common areas while we were there. Staff were taking special care to ensure guest safety and minimize any inconvenience. One of the outer pair of doors on the main entrance had a faulty closing mechanism and people entering and leaving were not closing it manually. Made for a chilly experience getting in and out (January in Yorkshire).
8.0 Excellent
Pros: lovely receptionist and a handy location for where we needed to be. a nice small hotel realistically priced and warm and comfy, the bar looked nice but sadly we were heading out!
Cons: car park was fairly potholed, though it did look like some tar temporary repairs were starting. the whole hotel, whilst lovely and exactly what we expected and in no way a "complaint" felt a bit tired and in need of some tlc/cash thrown at it, but then i guess the price would have been a lot higher... horses for courses. Only thing we were a bit dissapointed with was the hot buffet breakfast, its kept in water heated chaffing dishes and the food was sadly just warmish. never mind it tasted ok.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good
Cons: Noise of an event just during evening meal but do realise that it brings in the money for the hotel so fair enough and will only occur occasionally.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, went out if her way to find out how long it would take me to get to my destination. Very spacious room, excellent value.
Cons: Nothing much it worked well for us, being close to M62, if window open a little noisy from motorway( I sleep with window open even in winter). It didn't stop me from having a good night sleep.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: *Food *Accommodation *Customer service
Cons: Speaking to a trainee who didn't know how to add breakfast onto the bill for the next day. I went to reception and told to wait while the phone was answered. Been continually asked had I signed for the bill (I was walking through restaurant then stopped while they double checked even though I had already signed and presented my key) That was the only thing that needs improvement - sort out your customers first and get the payment solutions for charging to the room correctly. More staff training needed - as they have excellent staff that are outstanding but it's the procedures that they have been given don't work well enough . Customer service was outstanding - just the proceedures need work
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good Breakfast. Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable room with sitting area.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: It was nice clean lovely king size bed,, great freshly made breakfast.. Staff helpful and friendly
Cons: No lift

3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The price.
Cons: I felt very uncomfortable in this building: it is a private property converted into a hotel, it is well run down, very basic and there is no reception. There is a key locker system and you need to ring the bell on the reception door to speak with someone who tells you the code to get your room key. The checkout is dropping your key into a converted post box. I've also contacted them to request an invoice of my stay which has never arrived. It ticked the box for a night but I didn't feel comfortable at all.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed was very comfy! And the grey colour matched the room nicely
Cons: Just a remote the tv
1.0 Poor
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Room was freezing with the room radiator not working. Shower head bracket was broken so had to shower by hand. Ran out of toilet roll. Room wasn't serviced during my 4 night stay. I had to go to Tesco to buy toilet roll and bath towels. Electric socket beside the bed was hanging off the wall - totally unsafe. The Hotel was self check in. I phoned the service telephone number to highlight all the concerns and was assured that all would be sorted. Nothing happened. This is not a hotel as listed it is some kind old tired house that desperately needs a lot of work. The best thing about my stay was when I closed the door of my room behind me..never to see it again. Stay clear people
5.8 Okay
Pros: Close to train station
Cons: Was extremely freezing in the room heater was barley on the taps to the sink were broken tv kept turning off after a couple minutes by it’s self

9.0 Excellent
Pros: I was very pleasantly surprised at how good this hotel was - with the recent change in ownership meaning they have 'inherited' some patchy reviews from the past era. Characterful small country house hotel with impressive restaurant and incredibly helpful and friendly staff.
Cons: My room was still rather quirky (bedside light not working, insufficient and oddly located power sockets) - hopefully things that can be upgraded with time. Music a bit loud in the restaurant.
7.0 Good
Pros: Nice room apart from very poor wifi
Cons: WiFi signal very poor
5.0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was good with plenty of choice and the staff kept up with demand. There are excellent parking facilities and the grounds small but pleasant.
Cons: The entrance lobby is dismal and lacks sparkle. It is a large area is crying out for a few well placed exotic shrubs or statuettes, the floor lacks polish and the lighting, which could be fabulous, is grim. The room itself was adequate but dated, the furniture needed some attention, the bed was not comfortable and the pillows hard and lumpy!
5.0 Okay
Pros: Great location for our occasion.
Cons: Very understaffed, waited a long time for breakfast to get restocked, whole place needs a lot of TLC. Could be a great hotel with a bit of work.

Cons: Lovely old school Hall
5.0 Okay
Pros: The staff were very friendly and accomodating. The food was good, especially breakfast on our first morning.

7.0 Good
Pros: Quiet location with easy access to road network. Excellent cooked breakfast.
Cons: Room was a bit tired with poor interent connection.
7.0 Good
Pros: The location in large grounds with mature trees is beautiful. Being able to sit at breakfast and look out over the valley was a lovely way to start the day. Good value for money, particularly given that breakfast was included in the price.
Cons: The bar menu - not a lot of healthy and low calorie choices for non-meat eaters. No salad offered as a main.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: A heater for the room was requested this was provided immediately. The staff here are always so helpful . This is such a relaxing place to be .
Cons: Room was a bit cold
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed in Jessie Norton Suite no.2 was huge and comfortable. The room was clean and biscuits appreciated. We have stayed at Bagden Hall before hence our return. I booked today as a surprise birthday for my partner. The hotel itself is wonderful and the breakfast you could not fault. The grounds are perfect for walking our dog and all the staff are welcoming. Will definitely return.
Cons: Only downside was very little power in shower.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were great; I thought the place was immaculately kept; looks like lovely grounds
Cons: I came on foot, after dark - there were sections with no lights whatsoever on the long approach drive A few more sit-at tables in the bar-food area would be great, please, rather than eating off my lap
9.0 Excellent
Pros: All was above expectations............... apart from being served a below standard pint of beer (which was completely accepted by the bar. The problem came when because of circumstances of staffing I suggested having a different beer rather than wait for the barrel to be changed. The price difference was 20p which was not waived. Pedantry is not a good characteristic.
