Pros: if you want a cheap place to stay with a pool and in town, this is perfect. Even when we arrived (10 am - before 2pm check-in) they did check us in, but the room was not ready. They were kind and gave us our room key as soon as the room was ready, around 12:15. The wait staff in the restaurant were friendly. The pool is big and beautiful. Despite there being no beach, they have decorated the waterfront nicely, with many areas to sit or relax. I wish they would rename it Bintan Sunset Resort Hotel, as that would be a more appropriate name and not nearly as misleading as their current name!
Cons: This hotel is NAMED Bintan BEACH Resort, yet it does NOT have a beach. It is nowhere near a beach. The service was hit and miss. It took many days for them to respond to my email asking if there is a shuttle from the ferry terminal and if it is possible to get early check in. When they finally responded, it was very to the point, saying yes there is a shuttle and to call an hour before arrival, and check in is at 2pm only. The morning we were arriving by ferry, I phoned and requested the shuttle. I indicated when we would be there, and for 2 pax. The woman on the phone said "yeah" and hung up. I was not given any instructions on where to wait, what kind of vehicle to look for, etc. We ended up taking a taxi. The front desk staff were mostly kind, but there was one woman (I suspect the same one whom I spoke to on the phone) who was not friendly at all. The restaurant food was decent, although they had only a fraction of what was listed on their already small menu. As westerners, the only not extremely spicy dishes were the chicken nuggets and egg sandwich. Their website (Facebook page) should specify what types of foods are typically served for their breakfast buffet, and the menu should indicate which meals are spicy and which ones are not. My guess is that they don't get very many westerners staying there.
