Cannes holidays: Getting around

Nice's Cote d'Azur International Airport is the nearest airport to Cannes and and there are train, bus and taxis to the centre. Cannes itself is easy to navigate on foot, and walking is often the quickest way around the town. Cannes gets very busy during the film festival in May and this is a good time to visit if you enjoy the glamour of the movies. However, this is also the most expensive time to visit. The time zone is GMT+2.

What to see in Cannes

The first thing to check out on Cannes holidays is the beautiful old town, with its winding streets filled with restaurants and little shops. At the castle ruins you can enjoy a great view over the town while at the port you can admire the yachts or head to the public beaches, which occasionally have firework displays. The island of St Honorat is in the bay and well worth a visit for its monastery and ruined castle. Cannes holidays wouldn't be complete without posing on the steps of Palais des Festivals, where film stars gather during the festival. Cannes is renowned for its luxury boutiques and designer fashion. Check out the shops between La Croisette and rue d'Antibes where more affordable outlets can be found. For a great food experience, head to to Marché Forville, a large food market at the west end of Rue Meynardiers, a street filled with gourmet shops and delicatessens.
