We had our rental booked the Alamo. On arrival, we were told that due to an issue they didn’t have a car for us (we had requested a mid size SUV - KIA sportage or similar and while we were waiting we saw another customer from Alamo get one). They said that since they didn’t have one they are working with their partners to honor our rate and give us a similar car. I expected a similarly well renowned company - enterprise, budget, hertz. Instead they took us over to one of the local car rentals and got us a SUV with 103K miles on it, poor car alignment, and the check engine light on “which was the case for all the cars”. Ultimately the car served it’s purpose but that was a disappointing experience and the car we got was definitely not worth the price we paid.Reviewed 13 Dec 2023

Scam aleart!!! Charge $150.00 For cleaning fee.Cons:The car itself was fine. Other than bad tires, but pretty sure that's just standard for the area. We stayed in Hopkins for our trip. Which are all dirt roads. Very dusty, very dry. Never rained a day we were there. When we returned the car it was dusty of course. We were told we were going to be charged $150.00 For a cleaning fee. We were never told we needed to clean the car ourselves, and when I asked her to show me in the contract where it stated that, she pretended to read the fine print. Then after about 10 minutes she look up and said we damaged the car. Straight forward scam. Rent somewhere else.Reviewed 15 Jan 2018

Easy start to finishPros:No wait time when picking up or dropping off, very efficient. Aleta the Alamo representative wisely suggested we upgrade to an all-wheel-drive vehicle to traverse the rocky roads leading up to our lodge in the jungle. Great service, friendly staff, our car (Kia Sportage) was reliable and in tip-top shape. Will rent from Alamo again.Reviewed 30 Nov 2017

Pros:Excellent service from the staff, quick and efficient. Nice vehicle.Cons:Thought small SUV would have some ground clearance, but this vehicle was extremely close to the ground for touring Belize.Reviewed 21 Sept 2017

Pros:The staff at the Belize airport were very helpful and courteous. We had a problem with the KIA AWD about three-quarters of the way through our two-week stay. With no hesitation, Jorge (one of the staff) drove a new truck two and a half hours to us in Hopkins. Great Service.Reviewed 31 Jul 2017

Pros:The staff at Alamo in Belize City was professional, helpful and personable. They were the best part of my experience with Alamo. We became well acquainted as I was there the first day of my trip, the second day of my trip and the fifth day of my trip.Cons:Right from the start, the car that I had reserved is not what I received. As a disabled veteran with bad knees, it was very uncomfortable for me to drive the Kia Soul that they gave me. I asked when they would have something different and they told me to come back the next day. The following day I was in a Ford Escape. I drove the Ford for three days and on the third day the Low Tire Pressure light came on. When I got out to check I saw that I had a flat tire on the rear driver side. As I changed the tire on the side of the road I saw that there was steel thread showing on the inner edge of the flat tire. I decided to look at all the tires and found that the other rear tire also had steel thread showing as well. This upset me as it put my two-year-old, my wife and me in danger. there is no reason a car should ever leave a lot in that condition. The flat occurred 30 miles west of Belmopan which is an hour and a half away from Belize City. We never made it to our destination (San Ignacio to see the ruins) instead it was a wasted day of a vacation that we had been looking forward to for some time. I limped the car back to Belize City on a doughnut and a bad tire as I did not want my family sitting on the side of the road for an hour and a half. The crew at Alamo was apologetic and gave us a Ford Explorer which was very nice and had decent tires (we checked). I spent more time thinking and dealing with the rental car agency than I should of. I am upset about my family having been put in danger due to worn and unsafe tires and upset over losing a day of vacation. I am so upset in fact that I am writing this 30 minutes after walking in the door from the airport. To reiterate, lovely people but it took multiple tries to get it right.
