If you're just planning on driving around the city, a small automatic car that is easy to park is the best option. But if you're planning on a road trip to other Belgian cities or even neighboring countries, consider a sedan — particularly if you're traveling with the entire family, as it offers more space and comfort for everyone.
The speed limit in the city is typically 50 kilometers per hour (31 miles per hour), but it may be as low as 12 mph in certain residential areas. The speed limit on open roads is 90 km/h (56 mph) and on highways, it is set at 120 km/h (75 mph). If, for some reason, the speed limit lowers in specific places, traffic signs will always be posted.
In the city center, street parking is paid from Monday to Saturday, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. You can leave your car for an unlimited amount of time (except in busy shopping areas), and meter pricing ranges between €1 ($1.13) and €2.50 ($2.83) per hour. For long-term stays, it's best to leave it at one of the many parking lots, which cost a maximum of €28 ($32) a day. To avoid parking in the city center altogether, drop your vehicle at one of the free Park and Ride facilities on the outskirts of Brussels.

Brussels is a town surrounded by a few other popular destinations, which you can make road trips towards using your Brussels hire car. Among the routes to drive include a 37-mile stretch from Brussels to Ghent, which will take you roughly 40min via car, as opposed to around 1h 10min via train and bus.

Pros:
We switched our drop off after the terror attempt at another train station. This location (because of the drop off time) made it a lot harder to get the the airport. And there was little in the way of security. We ended up taking a taxi instead of the train. Not Avis fault at all. Just a complication.Cons:

Some Brussels car providers already include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection Waiver into the hire price but not all of them. We recommend being aware of your coverage when hiring a car in Brussels.
Keep in mind that car hire insurances often have a deductible clause, which is the amount you’ll have to pay if something happens during the time of your hire. If you want to avoid unwanted surprises, you should consider adding a non-deductible option to your Brussels car hire.
