The experience picking up the car was the absolute BEST we've ever had in years of renting cars! We were greeted by Nelson of Europcar--he made the experience truly wonderful. He greeted us warmly, asked about our plans, gave us tips on enjoying Madeira, made sure we got the car of our choice. Honestly, the best experience ever picking up a car. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about dropping off the car. We had a 20-minute wait for the attendant to receive our keys and inspect the car because she was alone while we waited in a long queue of other dropping off the car. When we simply suggested it was unfortunate that she was left to all that work alone, she blurted out that it was our fault!?? "You brought the car back earlier than it says in your rental contract." "But," we replied, "we are only suggesting Europcar might wish to add staff during the busy morning hours." She was unnecessarily impolite, telling us again that it was our fault. Thank goodness for Nelson and the pick-up experience! We'll stick with Europcar despite that rude reception upon returning the car.

It was dirtiest car we ever had. The top of the car on the inside, which was initially white, had black patches. Seats were dirty all across, like it was a car used by construction workers. Also smelt sweat, we had to keep it open to partially get rid of suffocating sweat smell. In terms of price, we were taxed 40 usd more for a mini convertible car versus an SUV Ford Puma neat and clean, rented by our friends.

We were treated grossly unfair. Upon arrival I told them I lost my drivers license. Told me they had to cancel my contract and rebook it for twice the price with my wife. A 649.00 rental turned into 1100.00 rental. Suggested they take me off the primary driver and substitute it for my wife . Told me they could not do it. Will never use this rental company again

Its possibly the worse experience with a car rental company ever - all I need to do its suggest you go look at the trust pilot reviews (which I wish I had), they will scam you out of money for insurance you dont need but your not allowed to take the car unless you take their insurance - even thou I had my own....the staff are just plain rude - I asked them how many times a day they "screw over" the customer - and they said - quite a few!! and thats before the car - "cleaned" not a chance!! it was a disgrace - it would be better off on a scrap heap! and to top it all off - conviencently as you full the tank the petrol gauge on "this type of vehicle" does quite go to the top - so you look like you havent filled it....I seen 2 people arguing this point for the Peugeots they had.....absolute disgrace - stay so far clear its untrue.

I am currently taking this further with Qeeq who were the vendor behind Surprice, I cancelled the hire as it seems the time I selected to pick up was the exact time the rental desk - and out of hours phone number - closed. I was left stranded, and am now out of pocket. Qeeq have been okay at sorting this out but I feel I will be arguing with them for some time. Appreciate this is nothing to do with Kayak but worth sharing.
