Top tips for hiring a car at Kalispell Glacier Park airport

  • More than ten car rental companies serve travelers at Kalispell Glacier Park International Airport (FCA). The best way to rent is to book ahead of time through KAYAK. Getting around Montana from FCA by car outshines all other forms of transportation. The chances of hopping on a bus are very slim, not to mention that the system has designated stops scheduled at an interval of 1h 30min. Also, buses are only available from 9 am to 5 pm, and do not operate on Saturdays and Sundays. For this reason, most visitors flying into the capital of Flathead County prefer getting a car rental at Kalispell Glacier Park Airport because the service is guaranteed no matter the time or day of the week.
  • When you book a vehicle from one of the Kalispell Glacier Park Airport car rental agencies, a few tips can help you save time finding your way in and out of the airport. First, make use of the signage directing you to the counters and pick-up points. Alternatively, ask the car rental associates where the cars are parked as they are always happy to help. There isn’t much vehicle flow from the airport to the small town in the morning. But you can avoid traffic caused by public buses at 9 am if you pick up your rental car earlier. Return the car before 4 pm to evade the evening traffic jam.
  • The return areas for car rentals at Kalispell Glacier Park Airport are located a few yards from the terminal. Some of the returns are located at 4170 Us Hwy 2 East within the airport. Normally, you should return the car at the same parking lot that you picked it up from. Only one-way rentals are returned to another location other than the airport branch. Such trips often carry an additional fee. It is very important to indicate at the time of booking whether you’ll use a different drop-off location.
  • Avoid late-return fees by dropping off the vehicle within the time indicated in the rental contract. Note that each supplier has a unique opening and closing time of their offices. For instance, National’s operating hours are from 8 am to 11.30 pm. However, they provide after-hour returns. If you return the vehicle past 11.30 pm, there’s no need wait to for a customer agent so you can hand over the key and any paperwork. A drop box is conveniently located at the return area for you to place these items and leave.
  • Book your car hire at Kalispell Glacier Park airport at least 2 weeks before your trip in order to get a below-average price

FAQs about hiring a car at Kalispell Glacier Park airport

  • What are the age requirements for car rentals at Kalispell Glacier Park Airport?

Please confirm the minimum age limit for the particular company you have chosen as your car rental provider. Most rental suppliers rent to drivers who have attained 21 years of age. A young driver's charge often applies to the 21-24 age bracket.

  • Is my spouse allowed to drive a rental car I have obtained from the Kalispell Glacier Park Airport branch?

If you are traveling with a loved one who is above 21 years, you can include them in the contract agreement as an additional driver. Have them accompany you during pick-up and ask the agency whether you have to pay an extra fee for this option.

  • Am I allowed to cross the Canadian border with a vehicle I picked up at Kalispell Glacier Park Intl Airport?

Most car rental companies operating at FCA allow clients to drive to Canada. However, this is only possible with certain vehicle classes like large passenger vans and exotic models. Please inquire about this from the company if you are planning to cross the border. Also beware of cross-border restrictions, including insurance. You might be required to obtain a non-resident insurance policy that works in Canada.

  • Which car hire companies will pick you up at Kalispell Glacier Park airport?

Car hire companies that offer shuttle or pick-up services from Kalispell Glacier Park airport to off-airport locations include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Hertz, National, Payless, and Thrifty.

I thought the staff at the desk were extremely efficient, friendly and accommodating. I don't usually respond to these things but they were an absolute delight. Everything felt quick and not corporate. I have ZERO memories of any other rental car interactions and, weirdly, I thought these guys were awesome.

I accidentally put my pickup time as noon, but arrived at 10 am. I was peremptorily told by the clerk that they would refuse to allow me to pickup my rental until 11:50 at the earliest. She didn't even try to see if a vehicle in my class was ready. (I rented a 15 passenger van- I saw 8-10 ready on the lot.) No budging. The manager gave me the same attitude- just didn't care, couldn't be bothered about the HUGE inconvenience they put me to, with my family of 6 in tow. And then when I came back, the manager tried to give me some small SUV, which betrayed his lack of attention to serving me well. Utterly disappointing.

Car class reserved 2 weeks in advance was "unavailable". Rental counter provide an alternate vehicle, but the vehicle had fairly significant front end accident damage, was dirty outside (HEAVY coating of dead bugs) and inside (cargo area had lots of dog hair and mud), and one of the rear seats was not functioning / movable. Not a great experience with a planned and reserved in advance rental.
