Pros: Location ideal for old city. Breakfast cakes, Americans coffee both excellent. Staff efficient .bathroom & shower good size . Veranda area would have been used but for cold weather.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was wonderful, staff was very helpful. I highly recomend everyone.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast offerings and service was very generous and efficient - we took our last cup of macchiato and a piece of cake outside on the terrace overlooking the sassi - it was awesome!
Cons: I had to walk up/down to the lower level where our room was located - they offered to change our room to the 2nd floor where an elevator was available but we wanted a room built into the "cave" so we decided to stay with the original room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I stayed in a single room called "Monk's Room" where monk used to live. The room was small but that's what I wanted, I deliberately chose it to experience a stay as if i were in a small cave room. It was an extraordinary experience. Room was very clean, comfortable, warm, not dampness, quiet, shower plenty of hot water. The terrace looking over the town was simply amazing, I had my breakfast in the terrace. Breakfast was a good mixture of sweet and savory, I appreciated they had savory option! such as fresh savory focaccias, eggs, cheese & ham and cherry tomatoes and of course the typical bread from Matera.., all very fresh. I was given two keys, one for main entrance and the other for the back gate. From the back gate you can access to touristic walking route and it was handy to be able to use it in and out. A few minutes walk to Via Bruno Buozzi where there are many eateries. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. I will definitely come back.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a wonderful stay. The woom were pleasant and the breakfast very good. The staff, especially Angelica, went above and beyond the call of duty, helping us with parking and loading and unloading the car in a downpour. Thank you!
Cons: nothing
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was perfect - within walking distance to everything. Staff was super helpful with everything from parking, to where to eat dinner etc. Room was spacious and comfortable with a nice couch to sit and relax on. The community terrace area overlooking the old town is spectacular - we had wine there in the afternoon and breakfast there in the morning. Would definitely stay here again!
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was exceptionally, amazingly friendly, with best recommendations also what to see, where to eat etc. Hotel is very lovely, wonderful terrace with the best view in the city (onto the old town), short walk to everything, free parking right in front of the hotel on the street. Nice lobby, nice breakfast, wifi worked well even on terrace! Room was beautifully cave themed, comfortable and just a few stairs up the common terrace.
Cons: all was perfect

Pros: Beautiful rooms, friendly & helpful service. Excellent view & location.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Nice little boutique hotel. If you can afford it I’d recommend upgrading to a larger room. Location is great and staff amazing. We drove there so took advantage of the valet parking service at EUR20 a night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent customer service, location and amazing cozy rooms. We stayed at room #16 with A/C and heater, all the amenities of a 5* hotel. They offer a valet parking service with reservation. Breakfast is awesome with different items as fruit, cheese, yogurt, cereals, bread, fresh fruit jams, bruschetas , fresh coffee etc.
Cons: Everything was perfect
6.3 Good
Pros: It was very clean. Breakfast was good and very nicely served. The receptionist in the morning was a lot more helpful and polite than the one who gave us the room the previous day.
Cons: One should pay attention when booking here as they call their most basic rooms junior suites, which is misleading. When we arrived they did not find our reservation in their system. The receptionist was rather dry and reluctant to even look at our passports to check the names. Eventually she found the reservation on booking and explained that it had never happened before. We got a room eventually, after moving the luggage around to another room which had already been allotted to another guest. The humidity in the room made it hard to breathe, unless the door was open to have some fresh air in. Although location in the centre of Sassi may be seen as an advantage, it was very noisy as the street was very circulated both by tourists and by some sort of freight carrying machines that went up and down the street in the early hours of the morning. One can get a lot better in Matera for less money. Definitely not good value for money.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: First of all, the stuff in this hotel was the best we have met. They helped us with any issue we had and we felt like home while staying there. The location is great! The hotel is really close to the main attractions and restaurants in the old city.
Cons: Everything was awesome!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The best experience then ever! Traveling more than 30 citys, this is the first one I want to come back again!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, structure in line with the expectations
Cons: I have no negative comment
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. All their recommendations, be it for restaurants or wine bars or guides or taxis, were excellent. The situation was perfect - right in the centre of the Sassi and the wonderful rupestrian churches. The rooms were magical and so atmospheric in the renovated caves, extremely comfortable and beautifully furnished, candles lit in the evenings and each room leading onto the central courtyard. Breakfasts were plentiful and delicious, again with excellent service. I would return in a flash.
Cons: Nothing.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: They were kind, warm people. We really enjoyed our stay. Great hairdryer too
9.4 Excellent
Pros: From the moment we arrived and dropped off the car, everyone was warm, welcoming and helpful. Great service from lovely people, including the owner. They cared about their guests. It was perfect. We look forward to visiting again!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a very lovely small hotel in Matera. I understand that it took many years to develop and the owners showed great care and consideration for everything. The accommodation was very comfortable. The staff was amazing in the care and assistance that they provided. Certainly above any expectation we might have had. The breakfast was sumptuous and nicely presented.
Cons: nothing

Pros: Location in the sassi, spacious room, I really liked the decoration. They came to pick us up and we could leave the car well parked. Very friendly staff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was terrific. The view when you open the door in the morning is superb. Parking is great. Park the car in free parking outside the city and the hotel pick you up af take you back. No driving in very narrow complicated streets in Matera. Also Breakfast was great and served by a very friendly and helpful lady.
Cons: The couches in the room were very interesting, they also act as a light. However they are a little uncomfortable. A very small thing the place is great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Basiliani is in the heart of all you came to see... behind San Pietro for ~200m, just beyond both the Casa Grotto and St Lucia, in Caveoso. Its rock-carved rooms are spotless, and hold every convenience you hope for... including a bathtub in #129, and coffee/tea making for that wake-up cuppa! It also overlooks the famous gorge of the ‘sassi’, and chauffeurs you to/from your car, safely parked on the outskirts of this pedestrian gem. Oh, and the breakfast is varied, fresh and superb!
Cons: Absolutely zilch!

Pros: Basiliani Hotel is not just an Hotel or even a special one. It’s a wonder of the hospitality world, a magic place in the center of our generation’s history, a place to visit and where you can rest and contemplate about our ancestors and our future. It’s is placed in the best and most convenient location in the sassi. The breakfast is simply the best as well as the welcoming, immediate pickup service and the rooms are designed with great skills and attention to details.... a work of art indeed. I raise my hat to the staff and Giuseppe to have created such an incredible and inspiring staying for us. Thank you so much
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very interesting hotel in the middle of the Sassi, room big and clean, staff very nice and location perfect to walk all the city
Cons: Quite difficult to find and the breakfast too simple
9.4 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is located in a quiet area with an unobstructed view across the valley. Interesting walks through the streets and paths. We had good fun losing our way in the misty fog trying to find our way but all the time feeling safe and sound. Hotel staff very friendly and a special thanks to Pasquale (hope that's spelt correctly) for the top class service of collecting us from our parked hire car which was outside the old cave town.
Cons: We had a brilliant time. Local Information Centre was asking for €40 each for a 2 hour tour. We managed Ok with online research and a lot of walking. Room 128 could have done with a cleaner toilet seat but the rest of the room was stunning and memorable.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent room in a lovely hotel, friendly staff and great location for Gallipoli.
Cons: The rooftop pool and large room!
5.0 Okay
Pros: location, courtesy of staff, matera itself
Cons: the hotel is poorly maintained. Cold room, heating didn't work and it could not really be fixed, room electricity key switch didn't work, internet worked very badly, inconvenient shower. Not compatible with a five stars hotel.
7.1 Good
Cons: Upon departure, we had a car booked to take us to the airport at 4 am. That car never showed up. The night person (he didn’t give us his name) was absolutely terrible. He didn’t know how to make the payment, didn’t know how to calculate it or how to use a credit card. When we realised the car wasn’t coming, he was arguing with us and blaming the day staff that the didn’t leave a note telling him and he doesn’t have their numbers, they aren’t picking up, he doesn’t know who the driver is. When we asked him to call another taxi for us he did absolutely nothing and said no one is picking up. We had to call ourselves and find a taxi to pick us up and rush to the airport because we were 45 minutes late. This night person also refused to give us a contact of a manager because we were furious with him at that point, he even tried arguing with the taxi driver when he came (the one that we called) about how he tried to call him but his phone was off (which wasn’t true because we clearly managed to call). This person ruined our stay at the very last moment. He had no knowledge of his job or duties, blamed everyone else and took no responsibility. This was unacceptable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Old world elegance with modern luxuries. Bed exceedingly comfortable, soft bed linens. Parking in a partner garage efficiently organised so you don’t have to drive through the old town. Staff professional and friendly, great breakfast buffet.
Cons: Nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a very memorable stay at B&B Solacium. On our arrival we were greeted by Lia. She was fabulous, charming and very friendly. Instantly felt at home! The room was more than that as it had a small kitchen and living room area all for us. Clean and very comfortable. Lia was also very helpful in giving us a lot of information about Matera and the Sassi. Provided us with maps and directions. Breakfast was very good and served in our room. No more than a few minute drive to Centro and Sassi. Would definitely go back and recommend to all travelling to Matera. Grazie per tutti!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfasts were fresh and supplies were maintained during our visit. Lia and Cataldo were very responsive to suggestions.
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Friendly owners -Gave a us a map and information of the area. A short drive to the old town and easy parking.
Cons: No hot water. Or we couldn’t work it. I wasn’t given the wi-if password so not sure if they had it. We only stayed one night so not a big issue.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The couple who run the B & B clearly love hosting visitors with a great passion. The personal touches made a huge difference to our overall enjoyment and comfort. My travel companion enjoyed many a conversation with Cataldo as regards to historical facts relating to Matera and beyond! The apartment is spacious and well furnished with the right balance of privacy and access to the beautiful garden and breakfast area. Elena who served us breakfast is delightful too! After a long drive to Matera we were very tired and called the B & B to ask for help to find the house Cataldo and Lia came by car to show us the way! Thank you! In the evening we asked for a recommendation for a quick dinner and were advised to visit a local pizzeria Lo Zodiaco within easy walking distance. What a pleasure! The pizzeria was a complete joy, a perfect evening spent drinking local beer and eating fantastic pizza hosted by the young passionate owner Cosimo. Cosimo also recommended his brother's restaurant for the following evening, Dalla Padella alla brace in Matera centre that was also a wonderful experience. Both exceptionally best value for money! Thank you all! We shall be back!
Cons: Absolutely nothing!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Our room under the roof line was very spacious with a double door balcony separated bathroom and bedroom . The owner was very welcoming and helpful even with our very limited Italian and speaks German and some French too. The grounds were nice with large patio and a garden breakfast room with excellent staff. The on street parking is directly at front and separate from the roadway.
La Casa DI Lucio Hotel Relais - Matera - Bedroom

9.1 Excellent (422 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at La Casa Di Lucio Hotel Relais in Matera, you'll be steps from The Sassi and the Park of the Rupestrian Churches and Domenico Ridola National Archaeological Museum. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. Guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, and self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The best thing about Hotel La Casa di Lucio was the breakfast prepared and hosted by the delightful Michele. The hotel was well located just off Piazza San Pietro Caveoso.
Cons: I have to say that I was quite disappointed in Casa di Lucio. For a Hotel de Relais, it was uninspiring. Here are the reasons: the hotel is divided into multiple properties -- we checked in at one location, walked to our room in a second, and had breakfast in a third. Apparently there is a restaurant, but we never saw it, nor did the room contain any info on it or other hotel features. The lighting in the room was beyond horrible; the light in the bathroom was insufficient to the task of putting on makeup, and you could not turn off the bedroom overhead light from within the bedroom, which was five steps down from the bathroom. There aren't enough plugs for electronics. The little sitting room contained a small table and one chair - our request for a second chair was not fulfilled. The bed, though comfortable with fine linens, consisted of two singles pushed together, an arrangement I wouldn't expect in a luxury hotel room for two. The bathtub was elevated (as was the bed), with no grab bar -- dangerous, for sure -- and the set-up of the telephone-style shower handle made it impossible not to flood the floor. For nearly €200/night, I expected much, much more.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Mikela’s breakfast was the absolute best!! Thank you for your beautiful produce and amazing service
7.9 Good
Cons: Room was stuffy and over heated and the temperature of the room could not be controlled.

Sant'Angelo Luxury Resort - Matera - Bedroom
11
9.1 Excellent (413 reviews)
Overview Reviews

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. 7.9 Good
Pros: The property is in a fantastic location, one minute's walk from the Church of St Peter Caveoso and overlooking the Belvedere di Murgia national park (rooms don't necessarily have views). The welcome at check-in was very good and Lorenzo was very friendly and helpful, providing good restaurant recommendations.
Cons: Euro 50 for two days of 'valet' parking (considering for the weekend the car does not move) seems a little steep and there do not seem to be other, self-parking options available (or at least the hotel is not able to propose them).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. Staff were professional and attentive. Breakfast was fabulous.
Cons: We liked everything.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: the staff were courteous and correct. The food served at this hotel was very good and passionately cooked. The hotel room was interesting.
Cons: The sleeping mattress a bit stiff. As for the cleanliness of the room it was fine but a bit dusty.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location in Matera old village. Rooms
Cons: Breakfast was very good although not sumptuous, but at 25€ per person, not a good deal
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was an interesting hotel- How often are your lodging accommodations in a cave? It was a fun experience! Th room itself was very large with a balcony. It was very modern, new and clean. The modern bathtub was actually in the room! The view was unbelievable-felt like we were in the clouds! Really enjoyed the morning mist.
Cons: I felt the front desk personnel could have been warmer and more informative and welcoming- The bell hops, on the other hand, were wonderful and work hard! There was a lot of walking up to our specific room and it was not easy. One has to be young to accomplish this without worry. Be forewarned, It is definitely worth the experience. Matera is a magical place!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, immaculate room. Location couldn’t be better. And the staff was wonderful. A bit expensive but worth it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the time we arrived until we departed everyone from the desk clerk, doormen to the staff in the restaurant made our stay extra special. In particular, Andrea was super helpful and extremely friendly. We have traveled to 80+ countries in the past 45+ years and the hotel ranks in our top 10! Keep up the great work.
Cons: N/A
5.0 Okay
Pros: Great feeling of the history of the Sassi in the bedrooms which are part cave structure
Cons: The room is very separate from the facilities so that you have to leave the bedroom in order to get to the breakfast room which means going outside into the public pathway. Similarly to get to Reception area. Can be noisy as the public are immediately outside your bedroom door.
7.3 Good
Pros: It was interesting to stay (partially) in a cave. The rooms are built into the cliffs. I liked the balcony of the room. The food itself was not spectacular but, in general, it was good.
Cons: Some services were lacking but these can be rectified. There was no information sheet (that is easy to do - write on the computer & print). For example, I was not told that there was a bar which had a library and that we would have a welcome drink. In terms of the dining room, they are trying - but sometimes service is slow (cold capucchino, being served the first course - e.g. pasta before choosing your wine). Again, these problems can easily be rectified. They are trying and do welcome feedback. I am a professor of management and they were grateful for the few suggestions I made.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The room and the view from the hotel were significant and impressive! Room was clean and staffs were friendly. Breakfast at the hotel restaurtant was rich and gorgeous.
Cons: Nothing.
6.7 Good
Pros: The location is great. The room was big and according to the town. Breakfast was delicious, with a lot of selections for everyone. Internet worked perfectly.
Cons: For the price I was expecting a bathtube, not just a shower.
7.7 Good
Pros: all, excellent design, unique location and environment
Cons: restaurant is not cheap
7.6 Good
Pros: Interesting, excellent standard of accommodation, great setting and area.
Cons: 2 power cuts which we had to tell the hotel about rather than them telling us.

The community terrace area overlooking the old town is spectacular - we had wine there in the afternoon and breakfast there in the morning. Would definitely stay here again!
Cons: Nothing!

Nice lobby, nice breakfast, wifi worked well even on terrace! Room was beautifully cave themed, comfortable and just a few stairs up the common terrace.
Cons: all was perfect

Pros: We had a very memorable stay at B&B Solacium. On our arrival we were greeted by Lia. She was fabulous, charming and very friendly. Instantly felt at home! The room was more than that as it had a small kitchen and living room area all for us. Clean and very comfortable. Lia was also very helpful in giving us a lot of information about Matera and the Sassi. Provided us with maps and directions. Breakfast was very good and served in our room. No more than a few minute drive to Centro and Sassi. Would definitely go back and recommend to all travelling to Matera. Grazie per tutti!

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice location. Best view over the old town. Nice room, spacious. Really nice breakfast!
Cons: It looks like they have a parking. But they don't. There is a parking garage they work with. Cost 15 extra. Then you walk 5' if you find it directly. As a hotel guest you need to pay the Thermae extra. This is 20 pp. For the price you pay I think this should be incuded. The Termae is small.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We love the overall look, feel, and location of the hotel. The hotel maintained the authentic cave look throughout. It’s located feet from the city center. Additionally, they had nice, firm, fluffy pillows.
Cons: The only thing that we didn’t like is that we couldn’t get massages at the same time. That would have been a perfect ending for my husband’s birthday get away.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very cool concept and visually it was very nice!!
Cons: Air conditioning was not real good. Our room was quite a distance from main building. We had people staying in both buildings so it was inconvenient. I knew it was two different buildings when I booked but didn't realize it was that far away.

Pros: Snel incheck
Cons: Hospitality issues at the reception. Pool closed before 18.30. And no lunch service only snack. And no bar operator in the evening, the reception had to poor quickly our drinks. The pool was very small.

9.4 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome, friendly staff, good restaurant, delicious and extensive breakfast, beautiful garden with pool. Plus they also have rooms with a wooden floor! Though it is not located in the centre it is only a 10 minute drive and parking at the hotel is easy.
Cons: Room with carpet and that not everybody from the staff speaks English which makes communication sometimes a challenge. But staff is friendly so you get there in the end.
5.8 Okay
Pros: It’s a nice, chain-like hotel. It has some historical features in the garden / pool area that I didn’t get to enjoy due to somewhat unhelpful staff. The person who was at reception was nice at first, telling me about a pizza place not too far where I could get some dinner. Everything was fine thus far.
Cons: When I returned from dinner, I asked about the pool, for the next morning, because it was obviously too late to use it after I checked in. She replied that the next day I couldn’t use the pool because it was my check out day... I added that I could only use it before check-out, she insisted that it was impossible, because they had to make sure there were not too many people wanting to use the pool at the same time, so only guests who were freshly arrived could use it (!). I’ve never heard such nonsense in my life. I travel to visit places, not to spend my waking hours in the hotel. I book nice hotels to get a good rest and enjoy a pool whenever possible (often in the morning before I go other places). It’s never been a problem before. If it truly is hotel policy, it’s not only stupid, it should also be clearly mentioned in the conditions of the stay before booking. Not only that, but the person was very unapologetic about it. Oh, and when I left in the morning, the surveillance screens behind her showed a very very empty pool / poolside.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: sophisticatedly english-speaking receptionist giving valuable advice for parking in and visiting Matera
Cons: admission for pool, not too much parking lots for hotel guests
