Top tips for hiring a car in Rhodes

  • Hiring a car in Rhodes is a great way to explore the island at your own pace. You will find the roads across the island are good quality and safe to drive on. You can enjoy cruising around the island in any two-wheel-drive car, so it isn’t necessary for a 4X4. However, you might find hiring a smaller car is more convenient for you when it comes to the narrow roads on the island and also parking in the towns.
  • It is important that you follow the laws of the road when you are driving in Rhodes, or you risk being prosecuted by local authorities. For example, drink-driving is a very serious crime on the island and there is zero-tolerance for it. The limit is 0.5 mg of alcohol per ml of blood, which is strictly enforced. It is also the responsibility of the adult to ensure that children under 12 years old or shorter than 135cm are in a child seat that is the correct size for them. All passengers in the car must also wear a seat belt or risk being fined.
  • When you are driving in Rhodes, you will find that there is a lot of free parking across the island. However, in Rhodes City itself, a lot of the parking is paid parking only. In the old town, it is almost unheard of to find free street parking. When you want to park, be aware of the road markings, which will act as a guide to where you can and can’t park. White lines mean you can park for free for 24h. Blue lines mean you need a ticket unless it’s a Sunday. Whilst yellow lines mean no parking under any conditions.
