brand new automatic carPros: Brand new car in perfect condition. Service was excellent on check in and return. Very EASY process from the Budapest airport.
Pros: Good city location and the staff was friendly and helpful. They changed the drop off fee to 150 Euros and took off the GPS charge. They tried to make the rental right but they could not do anything about the "upgraded car" and agreed that the VW Golf was not an SUV category.Cons: They were fine it was the left over dissatisfaction with Avis in Prague.
Pros: Relatively quick pick up and return, clean.Cons: Upon return, the attendant indicated damage on the front allow wheel rim. I drove from rental car parking spot to another parking spot 5 hours away. Did not have an opportunity to rub rim against a curb to inflict damage. Damage seemed to be old, but attendant said it was not on the initial inspection. I can't take 30 minutes to inspect cars for minor wear and tear. Waiting on Buchbinder final assessment for damages.
Pros: Drop off was very easy. Peter made it very quick and convinient

Pros: Staff was attentive and managed to upsell me...but that was just fine because it was for a bigger vehicle and we were moving, so actually it was a win-win. I managed to fit about 11 bags in the car and avoided multiple taxi trips and a bag storage fees.Cons: The experience was pretty painless, could be a bit faster. Also, I think the price of the cars in town (Budapest) is pretty high. Having said that it was a last minute rental and more than made up for the higher cost

Quick pick-up and drop-offPros: I liked that the car was ready for pick-up, and that the agent reviewed the paperwork with me. When I dropped off the car, the agent came to where I was, reviewed the condition of the car, and sent me on my way within a matter of minutes.

Pros: Everything was top class. The car was brand new and perfect for our needs. It was very fuel efficient too. The pickup up dropoff was very convenient and the staff at the counter were informative professional and courteous. And I believe I got a great deal booking last minute in peak summer through Kayak.Cons: Things I didn't like was that the Bluetooth was not working properly. I wanted to connect the Google maps on my mobile and to make calls but it seems that the car rental company doesn't allow this function. Also I took 3rd party insurance as Sixth sells insurance very expensive and they took €1800 as deposit for not taking insurance from them. They need to work out a better deal for insurance and make it convenient for customers.

Scratch under the bumperPros: Take photos of car inside and out before you leave. We were charged $200 for a tiny scratch under the car. Also watch for the 700 mile limit that Sixt does. If you’re traveling, the miles rack up. Hidden charges throughout. The men working were harsh.

Sixt didn’t recognise booking via KayakPros: I booked a ford transit and was informed at the very last minute that it was not ford transit but a galaxy. However, the booking done via Kayak clearly states Ford Transit and I was then told to rebook and was charged a much higher rate.Cons: Was charged exorbitant fees, GPS doesn’t work, poor customer service from both Kayak and Sixt. I got ripped off, the entire booking is more expensive than my return flight ticket to the Far East.

Overcharge for extra KMPros: The carCons: Did not gave option for unlimited KM. Over charge me with 130 euros!

Very impressedPros: I had the "ford focus" class reserved but was pleasantly surprised by a Renault fluence 6 speed manual diesel. They also had a highway decal included. The car was a little no frills but super clean and great trunk space and rear seat for rear facing baby seat. Would rent from them again.Cons: They really nitpick every scratch to do your own pre-inspection.
Pros: Clean car, professional serviceCons: So called ‘SUV’ is a small sedan with very little space for passengers and luggage..

Pros: Nice enough car.Cons: No one would answer the phone at the rental office. Also, the staff were no help at all on driving directions to our destination. They actually sent us in the wrong direction and wasted an hour of our time.
Pros: Only thing that is worth mentioning is the pick up and drop off was okayCons: Lots of hidden charges. Excess was 800 as stated by all info I received however when I reached the desk it was 1000 so I had to take out the full insurance which cost me an additional 180 euro.
It is well worth considering renting a car during your time in Budapest, especially if you are a family traveling together. While for the most part public transportation is widely available, at times it can be laborious and time consuming to use. This is particularly the case if you would like to visit the many tourist destinations in the city’s neighboring areas. For instance, Esztergom is the former capital of Hungary and is just 60 km away from Budapest. There is also the Gödöllő Palace, which is a mere 30 km from the city.
Is step one of your vacation in Hungary picking up the hire car? For travelers with flights landing at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, the hire car desks are conveniently located in the main hall of the airport.
In Budapest there are strictly no right turns on red at intersections. The only time this does not apply is when there is a separate green turn signal indicating that you may turn. Drivers caught turning right on red risk fines and there is no leeway given to travelers who claim to not know that this was a rule.
Rush hour traffic in Budapest, like many capital cities, can be rough at times. Drivers can expect the morning rush hour to start around 7:00 a.m. and last until 9:30 a.m., while in the afternoon the traffic picks up again at around 4:00 p.m. and cools down at about 7:00 p.m. The central business district is one of the worst-hit areas, particularly in the evening, so travelers are advised to avoid it at those times if they can.

Like many European cities, Budapest has many pre-automobile era roads and lanes that are ill suited for larger vehicles. Thus, if you plan to fully explore the city, then you are better off renting a smaller vehicle such as a compact or a sedan. Smaller vehicles are especially recommended if you will be parking in the downtown areas.
For the most part, drivers can expect speed limits of 50 km/h (31 mph) throughout Budapest and in towns and cities across Hungary. On smaller highways and open roads, the speed limit bumps up to 90 to 110 km/h (56 to 68 mph) and on the fastest highways it goes all the way up to 130 km/h (81 mph).

In general, streetside parking is not too difficult to find in Budapest, particularly in the outer districts of the city. However, in the more historical parts of town, streetside parking can become scarce and, if spots are available, they tend to be limited in size. Private parking garages and lots are available and are a great option for drivers visiting the central areas of the city.
