Located in the Rocky Mountains, 85 miles north of Vancouver, the resort of Whistler is widely regarded as one of the world's premier centres for winter sports. Four resort communities lie at the foot of the Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, providing a base for Whistler holidays. Most of the 'après ski' action is centred around Whistler Village with its celebrated Village Stroll; a pedestrianised area of shops, restaurants and hotels. Upper Village and Village North are both quieter areas offering luxury hotel options as well as a range of rustic, family run accommodation. Four miles south, relaxed Whistler Creek is the original base for forays to Whistler Mountain.

Planning Whistler holidays

By the end of November, Whistler's ski season is in full flow and can continue as late as May. By June, most of the low-elevation cycling and hiking trails are free of snow. July and August are dry and can see daytime temperatures rise over 25ºC. Frosts arrive in September signaling the imminent arrival of the winter snows. Vancouver International Airport is a two and a half hour drive along the Sea to Sky Highway. Regular buses make the journey throughout the year. Public buses, equipped with ski/bicycle racks, loop around the resorts. Whistler is eight hours behind the U.K.

Things to see and do on Whistler holidays

Whistler's skiing and snowboarding facilities are world class and were used to host events as part of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Despite such a stellar reputation, there's something here to cater for all levels of ability. Families will enjoy slipping and sliding around Whistler Blackcomb's Tube Park. No experience or training needed! During the summer months Whistler's hiking and mountain biking trails await exploration. Vistors can also relax on the shores of the area's lakes which have play areas for kids and BBQ facilities. Whistler Village's shopping and dining scene can be enjoyed at any time of year.
