Reykjavík is the capital of Iceland, an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Iceland is famous for its volcanoes, geothermal springs and geysers, all of which are in striking distance of Reykjavík. Iceland is a paradise for hikers and holidaymakers in seach of adventure, but Reykjavík holidays also make for great city breaks.
The best time to visit Iceland is in July and August. The winter can be cold and wet, but there's nothing like relaxing in a hot thermal pool surrounded by snow! Iceland is served by many airlines, and is now also on the cheap flight network. Public transport to and from the airport and within Reykjavik is excellent, but consider hiring a car if you plan to explore further afield.
Reykjavík is a pleasant city to walk around, with an interactive Viking museum that's perfect for kids, and a wide range of shopping opportunities. But the top sights are outside the city centre. Reykjavík holidays are not complete without a visit to the Blue Lagoon, where you can swim in hot springs. The wow-factor of being warm in an outdoor lake, whatever the weather, never wears off!
Another favourite is to go on a whale-watching tour. Boat trips operate between March and October, and you may also see dolphins, seals and puffins. Iceland lies on the Arctic Circle, and is a good place for viewing the Northern Lights, especially in September and March. With so many unique attractions, Reykjavík holidays offer a range of experiences you won't find anywhere else.
