Huntsville is a city in Alabama, USA. It is in Madison County, just north of the Mississippi River. There are plenty of museums, parks and gardens to keep visitors entertained during their Huntsville holidays.
Visitors can land at Huntsville International Airport for their Huntsville holidays, about 24 km west of the city. The airport is located off the I-565 interstate that provides access to downtown Huntsville. There are no rail links to the city. Huntsville is six hours behind GMT and has a humid subtropical climate with frequent thunderstorms during the summer. As such, spring is an ideal time to visit Huntsville, when the weather is milder and the flowers are in bloom.
A host of intriguing museums await visitors on Huntsville holidays. The U.S. Space and Rocket Center Museum, for one, includes the Saturn V rocket and numerous space shuttle replicas. At the North Alabama Railroad Museum, visitors can see the smallest union station in the USA and take a train ride from the museum. The Huntsville Museum of Art showcases regional and national art in its 2,500 piece collection. The Sci Quest science museum includes more than 125 exhibits and a theatre and is an excellent hands-on learning experience for children.
There are also plenty of parks and gardens in and around Huntsville. The Green Mountain Nature Trail in the southeast of the city has a mile-long nature trail around a 16 acre lake. The Huntsville Botanical Garden includes 110 acres of woodlands, ponds and meadows, as well as the largest butterfly house in the USA. The Huntsville Land Trust Trails surround the city and include a 3,400 acre network of nature preserves, where visitors can also explore a former limestone mine, the Three Caves. This includes a quarry bowl which is the venue for the Moon Over Three Caves Dance and Spring Jazz Concerts.
