Niagara Falls consists of three waterfalls that straddle the Canadian-American border. Over 50 metres tall, the falls are as impressive as they are powerful. More water flows over Niagara Falls than any other waterfall in the world, providing power for the region with a hydroelectric power station. Niagara Falls is also the name of two cities, one on the American side in New York state and the other on the Canadian side in Ontario. The American side is a state park but the Canadian side is full of great hotels and attractions for the whole family.
The ideal time for Niagara Falls holidays is between May and October, when the weather is warmer and all the attractions are open. Fly into Toronto's international airport, which is only one and a half hours away. To reach Niagara Falls it is possible to hire a car, take an airport shuttle, bus or train. Within the city all of the sights are close together and it is easy to reach everything by foot, even the American side can be reached by walking across a bridge. There are also shuttle buses for tourists during the summer. Niagara Falls is located in the Eastern Time zone.
The number one highlight of any Niagara Falls holidays is a boat ride to the base of the falls with Hornblower cruises. Then walk behind the falls in the attraction Journey Behind the Falls. For a different viewpoint, you have many options, the Niagara Skywheel (a large ferris wheel), Skylon Tower, with its observation deck and revolving restaurant, or even a bird's eye view from a helicopter! Niagara Falls is also home to two world-class casinos: Casino Niagara and Fallsview Casino. Head back to the falls for a second look at night when they are illuminated. There are also fireworks on the weekends during the summer.
