Aberdeen is a harbour city located in North East Scotland in the United Kingdom. Home to approximately 220,000 people, it has been nicknamed ‘The Granite City’ due to the fact that most of its buildings are constructed out of granite quarried from the surrounds. Voted the happiest place in Britain on several occasions, Aberdeen holidays showcase the area's prosperity and authenticity.

Aberdeen Holidays: Planning Tips

Aberdeen International Airport connects the city to various UK and European destinations, and trains and buses operate regular services to Edinburgh and Glasgow. ScotRail operates a sleeper service train to London which departs from Aberdeen every evening except on Saturdays. Between June and August, Aberdeen holidays experience warmer summer temperatures making this the most suitable time to plan a visit.

Aberdeen Activities & Attractions

Aberdeen holidays offer a variety of top galleries and museums including the Aberdeen Art Gallery & Aberdeen Maritime Museum. However, many regard the city’s granite architecture as the main attraction; most abundant in the city centre. Just outside of here Aberdeen also has its own sandy beach which stretches over 2 miles from the quaint fishing village of Footdee to the end of the mouth of the River Don. Whilst not suitable for sunbathing or swimming throughout most of the year, it is a popular spot to take walks.

There are plenty of activities for families on Aberdeen holidays including a visit to the Satrosphere Science Centre, a science and discovery centre home to numerous interactive exhibits. Surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing can be enjoyed at the beach whilst it is also possible to take a cruise around Aberdeen Harbour. The Aberdeen International Youth Festival is held every August and hosts a programme of theatre, music and dance performances at venues across the city.
