The hotel its self is quite quirky but the whole hotel needs a revamp. The rooms are quite big but the corriders etc need a good clean and some paint. there was a really nasty smell each morninbg as you walked down to the breakfast room, the pool bar was also really old and the food was very basic.
Very pictures clean room Mising free wifi problem with parking
good view from balcony, good onsite restaurant!! the pool closed at 6pm!
The room was clean and comfortable. The view from the dinning room was fab. Did not like having to pay extra for everything, and hotel charging 5 euro for shower cap to use the poor was a joke!
I thought that the hotel staff were very helpful and the hotel was in a very quiet area with no noise at night. Also the entertainment was very good
Very good choices and very good standard of food. Enjoyed the well stocked bar which was very comfortable with good entertainment. Good free car parking. Lack of leisure area around pool which was very cold. Just a few members of staff could be more helpful and friendly.
Very comfortable room with reliable and easy to control hot water and very helpful staff. Rather steep walk up to the hotel.
The old town location was our preference which was provided by Hotel location. This is not suitable fopr everyone due to steep climb from beach. However hotel provides adequate facilities with family touch.
food was quiet good above average, mainly English people where there.see views nothing
We stayed at Rocamar 6 nights and really loved it. The service was excellent, the room clean, the location just outstanding. The breakfast was great, too, maybe we would improve on coffee and add more fruit, but it was still quite OK. With that location we would invest into renovation of the rooms & bathrooms.
location is superb very pleased with the hotel would certainly stay there again breakfast could do with some improvement
Location on beach front and excellent sea view were very relaxing and convenient to access everywhere yet very quiet and peacefull.room spacious and clean. No
Closeness to the town and beach Room very small
had been to this hotel before to have a meal. hotel was located in a great location. we had a sea view room overlooking the fabolous beach in albufeira. enjoyed everything about the hotel bar, restaurant. pool, couldn't fault anything about this hotel. would defintely return again and we recommend to friends and anyone going to albufeira.
everyone was friendly and it was very convienient
The spa was great! So was the view from our room. Lovely spot, Great Prices and close to the town
Great location, fantastic sea views. Helpful staff. Shower curtains over the bath. Glass screens would be much better.
location for beach and restaurants was ideal. The staff in all areas of the hotel are friendly and made our stay comfortable.I would return and recommend the Rocamar to friends.while some reviews slated breakfast,I found the choice and dining facilities to be splendid. Nothing.
Wonderful restful week overlooking beautiful beach ,welcoming helpful staff. Room attended to daily with fresh towels and toilet requisites. Because we had to leave at 6am for early flight we were provided for in the room with a beautiful cold basket of food.[ It is necessary to inform the reception before 6pm on previous night] Overall everything was excellent and we hope to return D.V. No complaints ,except that it might help business if an electric kettle was made available in the room for us who like tea on tap!!
It's our second stay at the hotel, and we've thoroughly enjoyed both visits. I can't praise them highly enough
Small hotel with very good facilities if we consider the price. Very pleasent, clean and cosy. On the arrival, the repection personnel was a bit rude, as he was surprised there was a reservation from booking.com. Nevertheless, if a similar situation happens to you, don't feel intimidated. The personnel is nice, including the gentleman in the reception.
It was quiet, a sympatetic staff-nice view from Hotel and all in all a very good stay!
peaceful a bit more variety of breakfast as it was the same everyday
Location, swimming pool although cold because of the lack of sun was still looked after, the outdoor area was also kept clean & tidy
Location. Friendly, helpful staff. Good breakfast. TV positioned too high on ceiling. Insufficient pillows. No shampoo and bathroom too small to accommodate bath.
Wonderful location. Good parking
The bidet was impossible for anyone of normal size to use.
the hotel location as well as the pool area the basement rooms was smelling auful probably due to the areas humidy..so that it is necessary this bad point to be solved..also i think the hotel could have free internet access as the hotel's rates are quite high
the price was amazingly low,45 euro for a double room in a four star hotel rated three, the location and the atmosphere, perfect breakfast I need darkness when sleeping,I cannot get it from the window
friendly staff, good dinner, view on the seaside unfrequent of the change of the bed-clothes (1 time per week) and towels (2 times per week), lack of the hair-dryer, uncontrolled air-conditioner.
The staff being friendly and helpful, the location of the hotel In the last two days staying at the hotel there was a bad smell in the corridor leading to my room and in in the bathroom
Excellent for the money. Superb. No, it was great.
Reception & Bar Staff were very good & helpful. The communal areas were well maintained & clean. There was no offer of assistance with luggage either on check in or out.The bedroom furnishings were a little "tired"
My room was very clean, staff was very helpful, breakfast was excellent - fruits, fish, champagne, perfect cruasans. Sea view from the balcony was exiting! the hotel in general is good but quite old, needs renovation. If it's not so easy to make renovation, at least to renew towels i think is possible, because in my bathroom the towels were with holes, what shocked me a little bit.. The location is ok, but it's about 5-7 minutes walk to the beach.
breakfast could have been organised better!
nice quiet location;great breakfast;wonderful view
Location, easy access to bus and old town, marina and beach.View from balcony (room with sea view). Breakfast was ok , continental and english food was served. Do not book this hotel, if you have a different choice- it's completely overpriced. All the negative opinions that you find on this website about this hotel are true.Mybe forty years ago the hotel deserved the 4 stars but now personally I would give only 1star. Furniture was destroyed, stained, ripped, dirty and uncompleted; also not painted since many many years. Main doors were not washed for the whole week when we were there. Overall the hotel gives an impression there is no manager or anybody to take care of it. Staff is not too friendly; they complete only the basic resposibilities of their job. Also, in the hotels rooms there is no privacy as the balconies are next to each other, and if you go out to it, you can easily see what is someone doing in the apartment next to you.
Ambience, rooms, (we stayed in one of the 5th floor themed rooms - delightful!) no
location and relaxed feel no change to breakfast menu particularly hot selection which was limited
Hotel Baltum is right in the heart of the action in Albufeira. The parking garage was conveniently across the street, the cab stand directly out front, and the plaza and tiny winding streets containing all the shops, restaurants, and bars were all around us! The beach was only one block away. And with all that hustle and bustle, there was little to no nose in our room at night, even though we had a balcony overlooking the street. Unfortunately, the rooms were VERY small, although I heard from others traveling with us that most rooms in the surrounding hotels are very small. The concierges also seems rather uninformed of the area- we're unable to give recommendations of tours and restaurants- for that you must see the kiosks in the area (btw- horseback riding at sunset on the beach through Quinto da Saudade was one of the most spectacles things I have ever seen!) The rooms also did not seem too clean since there was an odor in the room and stains on the walls.
Was disappointed this time round, as had stayed in several weeks ago in July and got a really nicely decorated room. This time round it was old and very old fashioned!!! Very disappointed, luckily it was only for one night!!!
Good location to all amenities Balcony was very small
hotel was very clean and staff very helpful although the room with balcony was a bit noisy as it was facing music street but once we moved to rear of hotel it was a lot quieter ham and cheese every morning for breakfast
Staff helpful. hotel clean, As i only stopped overnight cannot make further comments. Breakfast a bit "spartan". Although conveniently based for night life this was not what i was looking for and would have prefered a quieter location.
Nothing spec, just the location, that's why I recommend. Breakfast better don't give anything, that was funny and desert continental. Coffee so crap. Staffs are not interesting about costumers. I think possible to find better for this price.
Excellent location and good breakfast. Room smelled damp.
Close to all amenities and the beach, easy access out of town, in a quiet location Towels weren't changed every day. There wasn't a balcony in the room, as stated on the room info.
Friendly staff, swimming pool, breakfast, location not enough tables in breakfast room
staff were friendly and very helpful and the hotel was clean and easily accessible. Breakfast was adequate and variety reasonable. Room cleaned daily and hotel just two minutes walk from the old town square.
close to beach and town.
the city center, but very calm; reception - 24/24, it's important if one arrives at night coffee was not very tasty
Very close to Old Town Albufeira. Breakfast was nice. Pool was pretty dirty so couldn't use. Also, can hear everything going on in other rooms, so ear plugs are a must.
the breakfast, not very varied
I loved that this hotel was close to the beach and to the old town and that it was very very clean.
The hotel was very clean and tidy, staff were great , we arrived at 01:30 and was met with a very pleasant greeting, went out till 04:30 and it was a pleasant greating again the same gent still on duty at 10:00 with a pleasant good morning to everyone, all the staff were very helpful, Thanks for making our stay very pleasant.
Close to the beach
Clean well run hotel, with an excellent location for the Old Town and sea view room overlooking the lovely clean beach. beds could have been softer ( quit hard).
The location of the Hotel was excellent. Rooms very clean, hospitality very good. Food excellent. Overall, a very pleasant experience.
location food not so good not 4 star
fabulous location restuarants
convenient location with a personal touch
Excellent location overlooking the beach and close to the old town with good selection of restaurants and bars close to hand. Breakfast selection improved from last stay. 6th visit now so no complaints. Really good value for money. Could not find fault.
the location no outdoor pool
Location The terrible awful sewage smell in the hotel and in the room was really REALLY bad.
location, location, location! The staff are welcoming and helpful; the hotel is very good value for money and situated really centrally; each room has a sea view
Spot on place. Right next to beach. Views excellent. Minutes from Old Town. Will go back definately. Breakfast was a bit boring, sloppy bacon and floppy sausage (frankfurters)But there again still got a belly full lol.
Not much but I needed a very cheap hotel and this was the cheapest I could find. The hotel is bang in the middle of the noisiest part of the old town and it is basic!!!! If you are a couple or family I suggest you do not stay here. See above
The location of hotel is perfect - it is in old town. All shops, bars, restaurants and pubs are here. Almost 5 minutes to go to the beach. If you want to reach the town-centre it will take approximately 30 minutes by foot, or less than 10 minutes by taxi (price 5euro). Rooms are quit modest, but ordered. Breakfast would be more various. I was only one time there, because I prefer to eat somewhere else. Cleaning is everyday, also daily changing towels. The room is provided with air condition and TV, which also broadcast some international channels, as CNN, MTV.. No hairdryer, iron and teapot. Very noisy outside, especially at night, even though you close your windows. I think this hotel is fitted for young people, who like parties and can go sleep in the early morning :))))
The location is excelent for people that want to stay simultaneously near the beach, nightlife and the centre and the price is very reasonable. The room is very clean. There was no reception at the hotel, the reception was done in hotel california, but it is only 20m from Residencial Polana. The breakfast is good, but is also served in Hotel California. We were also able to use the swiming pool of the other hotel. The noise at night, especially because in the morning there were men working in construction in the building right in front. But we were already counting the noise, as the residencial is located in the centre.
It was close to the beach and the many exelent restraunts within the area It was next door to bars with very loud music from 8pm till 4am and impossible to sleep not a hotel for familys or light sleepers & having to pay a refundable deposit of 100 euros for tv & air conditioning remote controls
Room was clean. Room was small, building was very noisy, small bathroom. Windowview on concrete.
The breakfast, the swimming pool and the cleanliness. Very handy (too near in fact- see below) for the beaches and evening entertainment. Well isolated for normal street sounds during the day, but high volume music from 2 or 3 establishments at night even had the floor vibrating. Very loud music from various establishments in the same street, drunken singing and shouting and slamming doors till 4 or 5 in the morning. For people who don't want to go to bed till 4 or 5.
Great location - although our room had window to the main shopping/eating/bar street we had no problems getting asleep even though the music was loud till 2am. Very helpful staff, good English. And the best thing - we could use the 6th floor swimming pool of the hotel California that we could reach in 1 min. might be too loud if you have difficulties to asleep (but not in our case cause after spending all day at the beach we were too tired)
very nice hotel quality/price
Breakfasts on the terrace by the swimming pool lack of courtesy of receptionists of hotel california (taking care of guests of hotel Polana)
There is not really anything positive to say about the hotel, which is an annex of the Hotel California, situated some twenty yards away. You pay for what you get !! Entrance hall and room were both dour and drab. No soap in toilet. A bit noisy at night when fellow guests returned.
Freindly staff pool area wasnt packed Beding was only changed once during our wk stay could here dogs barking sometimes waking us up in morning
Location great, 5 mins from sea front and 2 small food markets nearby. Apartments spacious, needs a paint in places but clean enough overall. Friendly to smokers-still ,unlike other places, ie balconies and ashtrays in bar/poolside etc.Very good. End of season, bar closes at 6pm! Pay as you go internet at reception no wifi. Swimming pool not heated, freezing!!!!
We have stayed here three times so know what to expect- good basic 3+ accomodation. The situation is excellent- convenient to the old town and some good, reasonable restauranrs. There is free parking which is relatively secure and provides the oppertunity to utilise a greater part of the Algarve. And any shortcoming was more than compensated by friendly, helpful staff and a fabulous view. It is important to have an apartment that has the bedroom window opening on the sea view side (alternate apts.have the bedroom window opening onto an internal corridor)- while it can be requested ione is unsure until arrival whether or not the request can be accomodated!! Also while the apt was clean it was very "worn". For example one would not be tempted to bathe in the very chipped bath - common to all three apts that we have stayed in. However the shower was more than adequate!!
Fantastic location just above the old town. The studio rooms have terrible beds so we had to upgrade to an apartment.
Charming and helpful staff- good location with lovely view Too few sun loungers for the amount of guests, not helped by most guests claiming loungers with towels at 9am! then going away for most of the day and not using them ,nor letting people actually present at the pool able to use them
Proximity to old town and beaches. The view from our apartment overlooking the sea and old town was wonderful Apartment is in need of refurbishment
the excelente view, (room 404), the location, the people and the Albufeira itself
Found the staff very friendly and helpful and room/hotel very clean. Found it unusual that there were no umbrellas round the pool area.
convenient yet away from the crowds the hotel is old and needs air conditioners
Close to the nightlife, nice pool area. Very noisy in the mornings, car drivers constantly blaring their horns and bedrooms back onto the communal walkways and the staff could talk for Portugal. No air conditioning, bedroom really hot, and they charge 1 euro to call a taxi which is a rip off.
it was very cental to where i wanted to be.
If i was a young person who wanted to party all night it was great.as a not so young person, needing a nights sleep,it was not good.
Central location, very clean. Staff friendly. Good value for money.
Very Central, near nightlife but noise ends at 03:00am. Very good breakfast and good internet access. Nice lobby too.
Would recommend the Hotel California. Room was pleasantly decorated with a huge balcony with 2 sun loungers and a table and 2 chairs. There was plenty of wardrobe space and drawers. Bathroom was nice with a bathtub and pretty much a power shower. TV had plenty of English channels. Continental breakfast was grand. Staff were lovely and the location was excellent, right on Bar Street, around the corner from the Square and a few minutes walk to the beach It could be a little noisy as our room overlooked Bar Street but with earplugs in it didnt disturb our sleep.
swimming pool with cafe/bar on roof
The location and the made to order breakfasts
The location was fantastic easy access to the beach and all local retaurants and bars Far to noisy from the street below , would not have liked a room on the front , shut your window and ut the air conditioning on and that keep you awake
The hotel was in the centre of Albufeira, within easy reach of all amenities. Our room was directly over the bars. I booked 4 rooms each at 100 euros and my room was 120 as it was a twin room. These were the only rooms left. However, my room was the smallest, with least amenities; other rooms had self catering facilities, eg balcony, fridge and cooker. We went back to the hotel for a nightcap drink, but the staff begrudgingly said "ok we can open the bar if you want". Not very inviting!!! Cockroaches and small bugs also in room. Music from bars continued till 4 am with the room vibrating along with it.
relaxing at pool; walking to beach ( about 12mins. but 15/20 back uphill). Not really suitable for people with walking difficulties. Somewhat isolated.
The quiet location and intimate size, honesty bar and of course Carole. Guests need to be reminded to close the fort door quietly after midnight. the beds. The beds, not much use if you were hoiping for romance as they kept moving apart. a real turn off!,
The staff were so friendly and attentive without being overpowering. It was so relaxing and we will definately be back next year The food in the evenings could be better
The staff were excellent, very friendly and helped us with everything that we needed. We received a bottle of bubbly on our first night for booking online and were generally very well looked after. The hotel was in a really good location for us, in a quieter part of town and with a very good view of the ocean. I don't remember seeing anywhere that the hotel was at the top of a bit hill. This wasn't a problem for us and we were actually very happy to be a bit further away from the centre of town and the location provided excellent views and some exercise. I can imagine that the location may be difficult for families or for people less able to make the walk from town.
Hassle free, superb pool and facilities. Honesty bar worked really well. Excellent breakfast. Friendly staff.Very handily situated.
Nice quiet hotel with own pool, in area with mainly private appartments houses. Ten to fifteen minute walk to city center, if you don't feel like walking taxi costs about 5 euro's.
Loved the design and colours used in this hotel. Near enough Albufiera without being stuck next to noise. Nice walks to the Marina. We only had time for breakfast, nice easy atmosphere, food reasonable. We had quite a time finding it, apart from that loved everything else
The room was quite and calm, with friendly mediteran style furnitures. Outside beautifull pool garden and view on the ocean. The beach and city center are 8-15 minutes walk, no matter. I can just offer everybody who want to avoide mass turism. Really nice hotel.
A very nice hotel, more like a house. Auntie Carol on reception is a diamond and keeps everything sweet and smooth. There are lots of clever touches like the honesty book to make everything tick over well 24/7 and vouchers to eat dinner in the sister hotel ( which is much more large and Coach Trippy) Our "double bed" was two singles, made up separately and pushed together. It was like sleeping in capsules. We had to undo everything just to go to bed and then hope the beds didn't move too far apart so one of us fell down the gap.
I liked it's central location, it was only five minutes from shops and bars and only ten minutes from a lovely beach. Perfect. I can't think of anything negitave to say about our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable.
position in resort balcony small, pool small,no view from ground floor
Location, close to the centre of the old town. We had to move room, only because we didn't have a balcony though.
location is great, and most rooms are clean and fresh. We have stayed at vila recife before but this time the room was musty, had no balcony and the carpet was dirty. there was no tea making facilities in the room. Room 413 must be the worst room in the hotel.
Easy accessibility from village, maid service every day & spotless rooms Breakfast could be varied a little. Extremely rude reception day staff member. On checking out we had a 5 hour wait to be picked up. We were allowed use of a shower in the basement which was scruffy and really took away from the image of the hotel
location was exellent, hotel was clean parking was difficult
Excellent location and price in autumn :) In breakfast just bred, cheese and sausage.
The location was excellent. Fine for a crash pad. Very basic but comfortable
Everything was OK. The location is good, not in the loud town center, but in very short walking distance from it if you want. Choice of breakfast could be better. Particularly we did not like the juice, but for sure this is only minor issue with no influence to our very positive experience about the hotel. Also there is a problem to park a car at the hotel, sometimes it is necessary to leave it in a distance from it.
